This era of QOTSA, this song played in multiple, small, shitty, smelly, flat Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap, hot as a mother fucker, dives in the Pacific Northwest, tripping on whatever drug you took, grinding with the girl next to you, for a 21 year old boy, these were some of the greatest nights of my life. 🤘
And in 2017, I was swing-dancing and dip-kissing my high school girlfriend to “The Way Used To Do”. All the many years, all the while being a band filled with nothing but badasses that seems to never skip a beat, no matter who those badasses may be. If that doesn’t show range in a band, I dunno what could.
Queens really never did have a bad drummer, huh? Like I know Dave was electric, I know Joey was a brutal animal, I know Jon is THE precision guy… but even Gene Trautmann here has such an interesting puzzle piece he adds to this lineup. Really every single person to ever play with this band has been at the top of their game.
It's less psyche doom w o nick ; was looser ictus point wise to put it as precisely musical u robit deaf eared toadz out there . Less cosmic desert doom of kyuss ,more qotsa ( ie pure homme + . Imagine if occasionally they called brant & that other guy, with that great desert ranch ,to build that two quarters of half pipe, jump the snake again
Same here! I’m 53 and can’t believe that I got instantly addicted to a band that I ignored in the late 90s/early 2000s and then forgot existed until I saw them on the BBC headlining Glasto last year (which they reran this year). I had no idea who it was but the song was familiar and Josh’s stage presence and their mesmerising playing made me want to find out. I have to listen and watch every day and I’m consuming everything RUclips throws at me lol. Nice to know there’s someone else like me! I think it’s true that we find things at the right time for us.
I recently heard that finding new music is some how a healthy thing?...I've recently discovered the melvins...king gizzard and the lizard wizard...fugazi....oh....Grinspoon...all great stuff....jack white too
Josh wasn’t that big here. He was most likely high off coke during this era, The Rated R era. Before he was pretty big tho and looked like he just came off the football field 😂
@@therealrcg6838 the story i know is that SFTD was initially a drum pattern that Dave did during one of their reharse. So the song is built on the drum from Dave. And i have to say, it does not sound the same lately with the new drummer. It was much more powerful and meaningful with Castillo... i have the impression latest QOTSA became a focus on Josh and his guitar. He does not like anymore drummers that take the scene like ghrol or even Castillo at a certain point was too much.
@@kenn3250eh that’s debatable. As much as I love Joey Castillo he had a habit of speeding up certain sections that imo kinda ruined the magic Josh and co had originally made in the studio. This is coming from someone who loves when bands change it up live and don’t play note for note what they did on the recording. Speed ups in some songs just take away from the other instruments. What’s funny is that Joey recorded most of the drum parts if not all of the 4th and 5th Queens records not to mention he drummed with Danzig prior to joining Queens. Feel like he should’ve been a bit better with playing in time with the rest of the band but again this is all subjective. Overall he’s really good but that’s my gripe I suppose lol

Joey is such an underrated drummer, just saw him drum for the Circle Jerks, it was literally the fastest I've ever seen them play!
Agreed. Every single person Josh has had come play with Queens has been extremely talented. Not one dud amongst them.
I feel like I watch this video at least once a week, it's like a drug.
Only found this a couple months ago and same. That is an addictive version of can't quit me baby
I see what you did there lmao
It really is. While I’m watching it I feel like I need nothing else in life 🤤
I know I've watched it at least 10p times in last month..I just discovered them...somehow I missed them
Just guess it's hypnotic
Ovation and Nick era, best era. The songs feel so free and powerful.
Nick era the worst sonically.
@@LilBigBadwolf0based on what? Apples and oranges ya fruitcupper
Ain't the same without Nick
Nick has a sound that can't be replicated! I've seen him play live with QOTSA, Mondo Generator, & the Dwarves and he's always awesome!

My my wife hates my music...maybe my neighbors too...
The definition of true testosterone
More like cokesterone. These guys were high as a kite in the Rated R era.
Josh looks quite skinny here.

One of my favorite songs by QOTSA but this version is something special...
7:00 This is my choice of soundtrack for when I finally completely lose my mind.
Addicted to Homme. ❤⚡❤⚡
Yeah, those twangs in the very beginning are bad-assed.
I'm a Homme-sexual for sure.
Nice. Havent seen this one. Queens aint the same without Nick. 🤘🎸
Celebrate............NICK!
Thank the good lord that I wasn’t still a teen when this song came out. Ruthless
The Honda Jersey goes hand in hand with all the nihilism... I love QOTSA.
that part at 9:00 is basically the precursor to the ending of 'song for the dead'
That's what makes me believe Gene had a lot more involvement into writing SFTD than we know

Crazy energy 💥
It’s unanimous that josh was faded when they did this right
I don't think he's ever performed sober lol
Thank you for uploading this 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Ole Josh Homme!
Before marriage and pappyhood and divorce.......young and freedom.
He's so gorgeous!
Even in his older age, he's still sexy as!
It happens to us all 😂
Haha true. But Josh was dating Brody during this time. They weren’t married yet
Awesome never heard this before

There is absolutely not one mistake made here who knows
If not THE best, one of the best live bands, period.
@@punkskillcops every single person who's played in queens over the years has been 100% on it

It’s not TVL. That’s Brendon McNichol
