Everything about Deltarune has gotten my friends invested in RPGs. The funny humor, the clever writing, and characters are some of the main reasons why so many people like this game.
Sure, Undertale was a bit of a debate, but now a lot of people are focusing their hatred for other games besides Deltarune, which is great.
The great thing about Deltarune is that it doesn't take itself 100% seriously.
You can tell Toby Fox enjoyed making the game.

I think the way the difficultly is set is such that people with little experience with bullet hell's can still experience the game. It was probably meant to be at the challenging enough to hold your attention without being frustrating enough for people to want to quit, since most people get frustrated after 15 minutes of attempts on the same challenge. The battles are more supposed to be a more expansive minigame with little character interactions sprinkled in. Of course the secret bosses being the exception. Honestly I really enjoy it.
true I suck at bullet hells and when I tried Spamton it took me 10 attempts, Snowgrave Neo took me 50+ attempts and Jevil took me 20+ attempts
If assuming the game will be curved similar to Undertale, chapter 2 is actually the Snowdin of the game.
I think that design choice in particular is brilliant. The game and its core message / themes remain accessible to everyone while still having challenges for those who want them.

What I love about the Deltarune community is that no one can universally agree what voice should Spamton have, everyone has their own unique twist on him that made me go out of my way to watch a lot of voice dubs to see if there's a reaaaally good one (my favorite is one of the early ones where he says based department but I think the original uploader removed it)
Also the people who insist Ralsei is a girl.

I honestly love games like Deltarune. Single player games are AMAZING.
Multiplayer games on the other hand are good. What ruins them are over competitive players.
It's just not fun going against a way better opponent that will cement you into the ground and make you wait an entire round before they can cement you again. (CS:Go casual servers be like).
Oh yeah I also forgot about toxic players who get mad at someone for not spending hours and hours playing video games.

@@seab4519 I mean, at least you have better hp than before, chapter one hp was horrible, but by the end of chapter 2 (after you seal the dark portal) your team has 160 HP (Kris), 190 HP (Susie), and 140 HP (Ralsei)
So if the bosses keep their same power levels from their chapters, by the time we get to chapter 7 your health would be high enough to survive jevil better
Also, all your teammates can now act on their own, so if Ralsei is down you can still perform the act of putting jevil to sleep with u and Susie alone instead of needing all 3 party members alive.
When a new Deltarune chapter comes out it's gonna be like Christmas came early

Deltarune is fairly easy, but I think Chap 2 slightly increased the difficulty of one, so I do hope they continue this route. Also the secret bosses are probably my favorite part, and I really hope each one does something unique in the following chapters. The genocide run being a little more than kill everyone is also very interesting. I do hope they continue doing "snowgrave" type routes

While Chapter 2 by itself was fun as hell, the most exciting part about it was the clues and seeds left for future chapters. Unbelievably excited to uncover the mysteries of Kris + SOUL, Ralsei, the Knight, Asriel, Jevil/Spamton, and possibly Gaster.
I know right. Really dig the concept that the player is sorta separate from Kris as a character... And the idea of Kris being the Knight is a very [big shot] move from Toby. There were little hints in chapter 1, like that one boi from the Great Board referring to Kris as 'Horsey' -like a Knight!

Lets be real here, gaster will NOT be in deltarune, deltarune is a parallel story to undertale, plus toby fox LOVESS to throw curveballs so any chance there is will be turned into a joke or something.

also, something most of you probably didn't notice, Noelle will start looking guilty in a battle when most of the enemies have been frozen during the Snowgrave route.

Games like Undertale are what inspired me to want to make games or write stories of my own. When I saw Deltarune Chapter 2, I thought to myself:
"Well, I'm doomed."
I honestly do not see myself accomplishing anything near the quality that Toby Fox has done so far with Deltarune. I fear that if I tried, it would end up being a mockery of Deltarune, a ripoff, shovelware, trash.
But you know what? I'm still going to try my best, get some experience and test my creativity. I'll start off small and work my way up. I'll run it up the flagpole and see who salutes it. Great job, Toby Fox and everyone else. You are all amazing at what you do!
No matter what, someone will always be better than you no matter how much work you'll put in. The important thing is not to compare yourself to others and just do what you think is cool.
Keep in mind that toby also has decades of experience and everyone starts somewhere. You just have to get out there and try
Remember, Toby Fox started out making ROM hacks for Earthbound. Halloween Hack is no where near the quality of Undertale or Deltarune - everybody starts somewhere, you just have to put your foot into the door and try your best.
I've read the replies and all of your comments are very much valid. So, to the commentors above, and potentially below, I thank you. I know that it's impossible to be perfect and that there will always be someone better than me, but that won't stop me from at least doing my best. I still have a long road ahead of me that generally leads to nowhere, but the uncertainty is what makes it more exciting. I don't know what direction this road will take me and that's just the way I like it. It's all about the journey. Thank you all for your kind words and I sincerely hope that your journeys are worth it, too!

Well, a few things!
#1. As others have noted, Toby had to start somewhere, too.

#2. Toby constantly writes down his ideas, from the looks of his journals and the like (and some of the behind the scenes stuff he shows). Goofy off-the-wall stuff, but he takes a lot of it and just figures out how to put it in the game because that's... well, his humor. His stuff!
Don't be afraid to write stuff down. Even just simple .txt docs for random off-the-wall ideas you may get. Who knows?

#3. Don't gold-plate. Speaking as a game dev.
Start somewhere, make something you like (don't try to make everything your *Masterpiece*: that's grueling), get it workable and get it out there.
Be prepped for feedback (including lazy feedback and needlessly cruel random internet stuff that's always there, so don't worry about *that* part of the feedback).
You won't get anywhere if you don't make things. And yes, while what you make won't be up to the quality that you'll eventually be capable of, you'll not reach that quality without those first steps. It's a constant process, not a 'flip a switch and I made it' deal!

#4. It's not a competition.
I mean, there is a competition for money in terms of market, but I think that's not what you were worrying about, was it?
Your audience'll be different than someone else's.
Toby wasn't 'competing' with Earthbound when he made Undertale. It was his inspiration, and what he made - while heavily influenced - is also starkly new and it reaches out to different audiences than Earthbound did.
I'm reminded of a passage near the end of the Gospel of John, actually:

Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”
Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”"

In the above passage, Peter seemingly got caught up worrying about what someone else was up to.
Jesus's response is basically Him responding "What does it matter what he's doing, or should do, or is capable of? Get up and follow Me, and let Me worry about him."
(and then, funnily enough, the passage remarks as well about other people misinterpreting what Jesus said and using that *in order to wonder about the thing that Jesus said not to worry about!*. :P )
If your mind wanders to the point of jealousy or defeat due to seeing someone else do well: don't dwell there.
Instead, try to get to a place where you can be happy for someone's successes, and (perhaps!) draw inspiration from them, without letting envy corrupt the matter. Envy is a poison: a dead end to be avoided, rather than parked at.

#5. Don't make success or failure of your work the measure of how valuable you are as a person.
Berdley in Deltarune Chapter 2 (at least, the non-Snowgrave route!) reveals why he was so insufferable: because he was worried that his value was in how people perceived his intelligence, and he wrapped up his happiness and his view of himself in that.
A lot of people do that: they place their value in something that they have or can do (beauty is a common one, skill another). But those things fade with time, and are no solid foundation: when they start to stumble, so too does the person, and sometimes to terrible effect.
Contrasting this: in the preamble to the Declaration of Independence, the writers of the Declaration list some reasons for why it is a valid document. Among the reasons listed we find this:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"
(by the way: "men" here, in older English, is a shorter way to use the word 'mankind' - it's not excluding women or some silly thing like that. :P)
Human beings *have* value: they don't earn it, or lose it.
Things you make *can* be very valuable to people too (we're commenting on a Deltarune video because of our enjoyment of it!) - and even if someone may end up liking something else a bit more, so what?
But your value as a person does not disappear if you succeed or fail in a creative process.
Something that's helped me is a talk by Professor John Lennox of Oxford: a talk that he gave at Harvard Med. You can find that here on RUclips if you search for its title: "The Loud Absence" as a search query should be enough.
That talk is a long one (good to have on the background, I suppose) and it touches on some heavy subjects, but also covers the topic of being 'set free by love' to act, rather than acting in order to earn love, and how that freedom is found.

Deltarune's influence on the internet (ironic) is quite big, but not as big as Undertale did, nonetheless it's a REALLY good game and really differentiates itself from Undertale. What a based upload Foekoe.
It will surely make a much bigger impact once the full game releases. After all, Deltarune hasn't even closed up its story yet!

When I first saw Undertale I thought it was good, don't get me wrong. But I didn't think it was comparable to stuff like Hollow Knight or Terraria. But that magical feeling when you first enter chapter 2, when you meet queen, or when you meet spamton for the first time are some of my most fond memories out of all the games I have played. Definitely gonna buy this game on launch because it was a fun ride the whole way through.

Have you heard of a demo on steam called inscryption? I don’t normally like card games but it oozes atmosphere and is made by the guy who made pony island. The spooky monster guy you play against is really charming because every character in the game is just him in a mask cosplaying. Oh yeah and you can also just get up from the table and the game literally turns into an escape room
I'm not too concerned about the difficulty, because I notice that a lot of enemies in chap 2 are harder than in chap 1 (eg dual werewire)

As someone who really loves Undertale and Deltarune, I still agree with your criticism that the gameplay can get repetitive and really easy at times.

I think them being easier is kind of a good thing. most people play these games for the characters and story, and if the gameplay was too difficult it could distract from the story and just cause the game to become frustrating. if I want a challenge i'd go fight jevil or spamton NEO.

Fokoe is probably one of the only creator on the platform who actully puts lots time into his video's but they come out great.
I absolutely adore undertale, but deltarune took everything I loved about it and dialed it up to 11. The characters, the dialogue, the music, the comedy, the hidden details, the choices...and of course, the [HYPERLINK BLOCKED]
delatrune is the first damn game i enjoy that isnt just bullets and murder for a long while now i require more

Chapter two was genuinely amazing, the wait was 100% worth it
oh, if you've got around 30 hours to spare, i definitely recommend playing Omori. it's a really good game that also has this "earthbound" style and a pretty unique battle system. and one of the best parts is that it's a psychological horror game, but it doesnt just go "haha scary monster aaa im scared" it's actually got a really deep story and TOO much bonus content. seriously, if you just go straight ahead without checking anything, you miss the thousands over thousands of different flavor texts and npcs that give you side-quests, and even AN ENTIRE LOCATION. you can miss an entire different area if you dont care enough to check out the map. it's insane.

I think the battles were built to be adaptable to players with little experience with bullethell videogames, and you might’ve not noticed this, but the dificulty scales quite a bit from chapter one to chapter two, and I expect the difficulty will continue to scale for the next chapters as well. I would also like to point out that chapter one serves as an introduction to the general characters, story, and gameplay, basicly the sediments for the rest of the game to build on to, as an introduction, of course we can’t expect it to be too challenging. I love deltarun and I think it’s difficulty level is awsome for the general audience, you also have to consider that in a game so reliant on story telling, Toby can’t run risks of someone getting stuck in a certain part of the game and not being able to advance, since it would break the immersion and damage the way the player enjoyment of the story.
That being said, I do love the way the difficulty is nicely scaling and look foward to all the fun gaming mechanics Toby will come up with
yeah, the only path in the story in a Toby Fox game that you would be stuck for day is the path that you chose for yourself and are totally aware of its difficulty and what you are doing
You should try out omori and maybe even make a video about it. Its a really cool psycholagical horror rpg. A lot of people played it and really liked it and even changed their lives and i think you would really like it

Chapter 2 was somewhat stale in start but gets better by time I mean first 2 chapters were introductions. Chapter 1 is all about who main cast will be chapter 2 is what we will be doing in the future etc. Real deal is the remaining Chapters
What I love about Deltarune and Undertale is how much effort is being put into it. Toby could've hired a bunch of people and pushed out the games a lot faster, and charger money for it to get rich, but he didn't do that. He instead takes his time, hiring only a few people, and people that he seems to be friends with, to keep the games magic. Most other developers would've taken this opportunity to make a ton of money, even if it messed up the uniqueness of the game. But he didn't because he wants the game to be good. And he doesn't just pour all his time into it, he makes sure to do what he wants too, and I applaud him for that. And this is one of the few games that creates emotional attachments to the characters, even if you just met them a few seconds ago. You actually feel bad if you hurt characters or their feelings. But if you go around killing everyone, the game doesn't pin the blame on the characters, they put the blame on you, the player. They evoke emotions in me that no other game can, and it does it in the most spectacular way possible. The only problem is the community, because they are so many people who constantly ridicule toby for not abandoning everything else in his life in order to make this game how they want it to be. All they do is constantly complain, and whine, and whinge about everything they can, acting like they could do it better than him, but in reality, they couldn't even think of something that people could remotely enjoy. But there are also a ton of people who support him, and give him compliments and praise for the majesty that is this game. They also give him free roam of his game, and don't pressure him to revolve his life around them. These are people who genuinely appreciate him and his game, and want him to be happy, and to succeed. This is just scraping the surface of what is happening here, and I am glad that he is willing to continue doing this, and that people are trying to support him in what he wants to do, instead of what they want him to do.
