When I first came into the Army, a wise Sargent told me to read this book. I did, and read it every few years in the 23 years I was in. I have listened to several readings but this one is amazing. Good work. It's amazing how well this book applies to even today's military.
1945atombomb THANK YOU for your time!!! The same for me. I read the book in 1995 when I was 22 years old. And I recommended it to many young soldiers in my 28 years in the Army Reserves. The advice about “marriage is a young man’s disaster and an old man’s comfort “ saved me from myself. Drama ❤️ 💔 bombs 💣 RUIN lives and careers. So sad. I recommend to all Soldiers and young men. Adventure. Service. Civic Virtue !!! Did you catch Rico’s ethnicity?
@@deaddropsd1972 The principles of discipline helped me when I got in trouble, and later helped me as a NCO when my troops go into trouble. There's been much debate on Rico's nationality, too many ideas. Most were wrong.
1945atombomb well there is only one answer on his ethnicity. There may be debate because of the grossly inaccurate movie 🎥. Just a lot of wrong ideas due to the wildly inaccurate 1997 movie. He is Filipino. I am Filipino American. US Army Reserves x 28 years. 6 active. Medical. It’s just one of the details that calls to me. Please scroll back on FB page Starship Troopers the book for fun military history regarding details of book !!! Salamat Po (Tagalog) mentioned at end of Chapter 13.
1945atombomb I have straight up told youngsters NOT to get married. One apologized to me a year later when filed for divorce. Marriage is a young man’s disaster and an old man’s comfort
I am a Male Korean citizen. So we have 2 years mandatory conscription anyway. So, the end result is basically what Starship Troopers has. Except there is no choice in the equation. It's mandatory. So no one really likes it and the rich and powerful constantly cheat to not send their kids to the military. Overall, I would prefer the Starship Troopers model.
Rough, man. I kinda get it that Mad Kim and Xinnie the Pooh are JUST waiting for you guys to drop your guard. But that means you guys start two years behind women in the job/college market. And you know, asians. Shooting yourselves in the foot worse than the West. Just don't import the third world en masse.
The radio chatter sound effects added, the narrator and everything else, it sounds like a professional production. I love whats been done here so much and recommend this exact video to all my friends

@doug dimidome I believe it will be a great experience. This is a fantastic reading of the book. In my opinoin it is better than the "official" version. I started the official version and switched to this one and I am VERY pleased.
The reader has a very professional and descriptive voice, and the sound effects are a nice touch. And of course, the book was a great choice. Well done.
Thank you for the sacrifices you and your family made to keep us safe and free. I really enjoyed your recording. Since my brain injury, I can't read a book and remember the names of the characters, let alone follow the action. It's like walking through a rainstorm instead of drinking water. The effort you put in to have distinctive voices for every character made it easy for me to differentiate among them and follow their individual story arcs. All of the sound effects really added to the emotional atmosphere of the action and helped me to remember what happened. Thank you.
I am very grateful and happy that you enjoyed this audiobook production! I’m glad you appreciated the sound effects, voice, accent, and music! It’s my favorite book of all time! Take care!
By far the best way to experience one of my favorite books. You have a natural voice for narration, which is a pleasure to listen to. The sound effects were genius. This takes audiobooks to the next level. And you included The Ballad of Rodger Young!!! Thanks! I very much hope you make more of these.

Excellent recording!! For a "fan-created audio production", this work easily rivals (and in some instances, surpasses) many so-called professional audio productions. The narrator's voice acting talents were apparent without pandering to the audience. Sound effects were used sparingly, which added color to the reading, without overwhelming it. All in all, a superb effort. As to the novel itself, the story is quite serviceable and reasonably entertaining, while the real meat of the book involves the nuggets of political philosophy under discussion. The book raises some interesting themes regarding how political and social order should be maintained within a society when its members do not necessarily appreciate what they have, and more importantly, what they have to lose. It also tries to rehabilitate ideas such as duty and honor within the context of a realpolitik approach to the world at large. Thank you to everyone involved in producing this fantastic recording for public consumption. 👏

Pretty Amazing the fx put in make it far better than any other audio reading of starship troopers. If you're looking for another book to read the forever war would be a good book. Again written by a veteran. Heinlein loved the book as it conveyed political opinions through the medium of Sci fi. While it espouses quite Diffrent views from starship troopers it is incredibly lifelike as it is a metaphor for the authors experiences in the Vietnam war and his treatment by the anti war movement back home

I'm not that familiar with the Filipino accent, so I can't honestly say that I could tell, but there is definitely something about Johnny's voice that makes it easy to recognize and differentiate from all the others.
Sue D Nim Yup. He is Filipino. I am too and US Army ! Lol. I added a little accent to his father Emilio, but the proof is at the end of Ch 13. "Tagalog ". Thanks for your support and kind comments!!!
50:18 "One can lead a child to knowledge but one can not make him think." simply brilliant and so fitting for todays world of collectivist drones leaving schools and universities with the delusion that you can make a better world by forcing people "to not offend anyone".
I would argue against that idea. You CAN very well make a child think. By igniting curiosity in them, so they would seek knowledge of their own accord. Granted, this might not be the responsibility of schools, as such a trait might need nurturing from early childhood, meaning that it's the responsibility of parents to do just that.
@@OzixiThrill Curiosity doesnt work for everyone ... and some are "too scared" to face the unknown. Of course "the child and the closed box" is an image for curiosity (and a big reason why presents are so interesting for children), but this eventually stops ... while they are still children. Many children nowadays are also in the "I demand something and I get it" category, which eliminates the surprise and thus the curiosity. *_Curiosity isnt the same as "thinking AND coming to the right/a good conclusion"_* which is how that remark is meant in the book.
@@Muck006 There is a difference between getting someone curious in something and igniting the spark of curiosity in someone. Fostering and nurturing curiosity isn't just a done and gone moment.
This is why I like this book. Because it shows that today’s society is starting to fall apart because folks are not disciplining their children as they should! They’re starting to call being spanked as “child abuse” nowadays! It’s like the concept of discipline is lost on people these days.
This book should be required for anyone interested in leadership. And this narrator should be the go-to for the audio. Thank you. It's refreshing that the middle management is not depicted as incompetent and stupid, which seems to be obligatory lately. Yes the incompetent can hide in large organizations. But that doesn't mean all large organizations are incompetent.
I really appreciate this comment! I hope that someone working on a reboot finds this and incorporates elements into movie 🎥 We true fans of book 📚 need a faithful version. Had you read before?

Yes. Every time I read stories or watch videos of out-of-control, teenagers committing crime. Crime in general. Fearless criminals who don’t care about consequences. I think about the system in this book. Imagine world where someone was whipped for vandalism or breaking into someone’s house. I’m not wanting people to get killed for breaking into someone’s house. But if they commit murder. Everyone knows murder is wrong there is no excuse for murder.
I like how Heinlein used words like "somnambulists" to deride students in LTC DuBois's class of History and Moral Philosophy. The simple wit in this book is fairly balanced out with an intelligent use of vocabulary, which, aside from the insights into political and military deficiencies described herein, is why I like it.

You are very welcome. Did you notice the main character was Filipino? It’s a very subtle reference at the end of chapter 13. Thanks for taking the time to listen to this passion project of mine. I’m just a regular guy with a passion for sound effects on audiobooks and of course for starship troopers. Please share with others! Take care.
My first impression was this is kinda cheesy narration if im being honest. But than i remembered the first few pages of this book up until the initial drop was like that already so i stuck it out. Im glad I did. This gentlemen is definitely a very good narrator. Even better than the "official" one. Good on him. This book helped me make my decision to join The USMC Infantry over a decade ago. Didnt get to fufil that duty having got hurt in training. Im healed now and my heart is starting to wander yet again.
Thanks for your compliments! I just finished my Army Reserves 30. Read this book when I was an E-4 SPC in 1995. Did you catch that Rico was Filipino? Lol. Trivia. End of Chapter 13 He mentioned Tagalog.

Great video, I really appreciated listening to you reading this book. This is one of my favorites books from this author (alongside "The moon is a harsh mistress"), and also one of my all time favorite books. Two things I have to say. First maybe put the credits in the description, this way no matter what they will always be there to check handily (this is just a suggestion to make thing easier in case of problems, you don't have to look deep into the comments and can just point people to the description). The second, there is a video-game actually in development that is heavily themed like Starship Troopers, would you mind if I use your version of the audio-book in a "clan page"?
Red Nemo hi!! Thank you!! 1. I will scroll around on iphone then later check on laptop to edit comments. Thank you! 2. Yes! I appreciate it! Did you finish the whole thing? I like to know if book fans liked the music of "recall". Thank you!!!
I did, it took me 3 days but I did it. If by "recall" you mean the song for the ship, keeping in mind when this book has been written, and the fact that Rico's company had the "best jazz" band around, it actually makes a lot of sense. The only "critiques" I feel like doing are the fact that Rico's Professor, Lt. Col. J.V. Dubois, should, in my opinion have a french accent (if he ever have one), since it is a very common french surname, like Miller or Jenkins in UK or USA. The second one regards Rico's father, since he becomes a NCO really fast in the MI, and being basically a 22 year older version of him, hardened by years in the high stakes business, it is really hard to picture him as a cuddly man with a soft voice. But that's it, everything else was pretty much spot on.
Red Nemo thank you for listening! I tried to give Rico's Dad a Filipino accent. Lol. Dubois I did my best French but maybe it didn't come through. I hope you liked "Ballad of Rodger Young" and "Sugar Bush" music. Thank you!!
Red Nemo thank you for feedback. I really hoped fans would enjoy music since for years (before youtube) I wondered what "The Ballad of Rodger Young" and "Sugar Bush" sounded like. Such seemingly trivial details come to life w real music. I did try a French accent w Dubois! Doh! Lol. I did Rico Dad as Filipino accent but not sure enough are familiar w it. Tagalog as native language at near end is clue. I am Filipino so I wanted to add that detail. Thank you again for your time.! How did you find out about this vid? My posts on ?
Mabuhay, kapatid! Love your work. This is a life changing book! I don't quite agree with everything written in it, but I am amazed at how well written it was for a book that's 80% libertarian treatise and 20% mil sci-fi novel. Your voice work qas silky smooth and I worked through the book and enjoyed your accents, especially Rico sr.'s accent, which is spot on and made me realize you were a Filipino! Great job, and know that I will be revisiting this work for the future. 😅
Hello. Yes I am Filipino American. I was 22 when I read this book. I am now 52. I was in the US Army for 30 years. It influenced my life decisions. I was a young soldier who gradually became an officer. I was infantry. I was medical. But the book is my favorite of all time and influenced me greatly throughout my life. I messed up on the pronunciation of Ramon Magsaysay my mother corrected me after my production. Anyway, the book is very special to me. I hope you enjoyed the sound effects and the music for recall. Everybody needs to be educated to know the true story of the book. Personally, I really wish we had this system. I know it’s not going to happen. But I would love a system where the streets were definitely more safe and murderers were dealt with quickly. I’m glad you enjoy the project

@@deaddropsd1972 well, i thought it to be a nice touch, since Königsberg and Heidelberg both house the last two "Schlagende Studentengemeinschaft" ("beating fraternities"); all other universities, colleges AND highschools (how do you translage "Gymnasium" to english?) have that. Thus the question about the "scar" (to formalise the membership in the fraternity, they have to do a sword-fight (next to other combat-styls, like boxing), and get hit by an "elder" of the fraternity, that scar must be visible and is called "Schmiss" and is an everlasting sign that this dude belonged to the fraternity). Didn't get where Zim originated from, but apparently he knew that the two guys had a little "battle training"... I admire how right Heinlein had the facts when he wrote that book! Btw - yeah, germany was a nice country (live a few klicks south to the german border); germans ..well after you gotten used to them, they were ok. landscape was GREAT. but do yourself a favour and don't return there: where there was forrest (ya know, the real old "Märchenwälder" (forrests as described in fairytails) aso), you now have wind turbines, where the beautifull landscape was, there are photovoltaic-fields now, growing citys, and germans need even more patient to get used to them than before and the "climate" is about to be compared to the old GDR (think twice before mentioning something against current situation there, might win some one-way-ticket, destination NOT home)..... it's a real shame what happened to that country the recent 3 years. who'd thought of the green party - the notoric enviro-protectors - would take down whole forrests to build wind turbines, dry out swamp-areas for PV-fields, and reinstate a stasi-like NGO that does the same as the stasi in the GDR to protect people from speaking about this insanity.... damn.... As Heinlein wrote in the country. This is the risk of the "unlimited franchise". (worse comes to worst: they even do the same sh...t here in Switzerland..... my village had such a beautifull forrest - it is gone, two wind turbines standing where the trees were; and what happend? exactly like the "worse than hitler"-people (i was one of 'em) said: we do not have a strong and consistent enough wind to make these turbines turn fast enough to produce elec. power.... we had a little creek (forrest gone - no more water in it) in the village that was artificially streighend; it could have been "renaturalised" with a little "eddy current power plant" (not sure if it's translated correctly). ..ironically, those people who spoke out against the wind-turbines were all either serving military, civil defence, firefighters, police or in medical services and have seen the insanity behind the idea......) Starship Troopers should be mandatory read in all schools tbh....

(no better time than today, bc tomorrow both organisatons will be at war, right? except maybe we should - if/when - wait for the day after tomorrow to see if they made it through the war, and so WE avoid being part of that war. i'm all in for neutrality - switzerland was a warfaring country until we learned our lessions. which the politicians didn't do: learn from history)

Hope you enjoy.

@@deaddropsd1972 Well, I'm not sure. In the movie he's from Argentina, but in the book he's Filipino.
@@deaddropsd1972 Cool!
50:18 "One can lead a child to knowledge but one can not make him think." simply brilliant and so fitting for todays world of collectivist drones leaving schools and universities with the delusion that you can make a better world by forcing people "to not offend anyone".
Muck006
TRUTH! We have over complicated, over thought the basics. Ugh. Idiocracy. Sad how that comedy movie 🎥 is coming true

Was this author a time traveler?! He predicted SO much technology so accurately.
THIS IS AMAZING! Audiobook!!! Thank you!!!
Hope you enjoy the audiobook !! Did you catch Rico’s ethnicity ?

This was the first Novel I enjoyed in school. Read this in 6th grade. Still one of my favorite books. Too bad the movie was so different. This would make a great series or movie if done like the novel. Great Audio version. Thx for this.
Take care.
@deaddropsd1972 Nope, I always pictured Spanish/Mexican but that's cool to know.
Tears in my eyes, Juan talking to his Dad. I miss mine terribly.
Condolences….. it’s a touching part.
I live in San Diego & occasionally took care of boots from MCRD! 😂

@@deaddropsd1972 as a swiss who did his military service, seeing how people who didn't "do service to society" are currently ruining everything, i can just 2nd your sentence about wishing to have that system. too many voters here in switzerland do not vote for what's best for the country and its people, they a) blindly vote what media tells them to, b) vote for what's most convenient for themselves (and not for the greater good). it's ...almost as Robert Heinlein wrote in the book about why the system collapsed... i truly fear we're short of collapsing here in europe...

just look at germany; due to the anti-right-reflex and the fact they started believing their own propaganda (the AfD is the leftover of the original AfD, which endured several splits, where in each, the extreme rightwingers left the party (first towards the blue party, then to the NPD); what's left of the AfD are essentialla former CDU (christ democrats) and FDP (germ. liberals), who left their old partys after both switched to the extreme left... they want to postpone the elections due to they need to forbid the afd, while ALL other partys work together; think "Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschland" (SED; the party that lead the GDR and didn't allow opposition)... let's just say: europeans with brains in their head sh.. their pants thinking about a us-backed warmongering germany going full on socialist (it's all been there already, except back in the day, it was the brits backing germany up until they realised their mistakes...socialism is socialism, no matter if international or national...)

oh btw - i had the biggest scare of my life today: i had to agree with pelosi: if just biden'd retreated some 2 years ago (when it was time for primarys) and the DNC'd put some sensible and intelligent people (no matter m/f/d/poc/white/cockroaches from outerspace aso) on the ballot....
but well. lets hope the orange one keeps word and ends the ukrainian war. maybe at least the doomsdayclock will reset to 11:55 (and not 11:59:59 as it stands on atm)... and if rumors of idf in the streets of telaviv are true, we might even go back to 11:50 if the "lets open 4 different fronts at once, the usa is backing us"-guy will be locked up... :-/

(worse comes to worst: they even do the same sh...t here in Switzerland..... my village had such a beautifull forrest - it is gone, two wind turbines standing where the trees were; and what happend? exactly like the "worse than hitler"-people (i was one of 'em) said: we do not have a strong and consistent enough wind to make these turbines turn fast enough to produce elec. power.... we had a little creek (forrest gone - no more water in it) in the village that was artificially streighend; it could have been "renaturalised" with a little "eddy current power plant" (not sure if it's translated correctly).
..ironically, those people who spoke out against the wind-turbines were all either serving military, civil defence, firefighters, police or in medical services and have seen the insanity behind the idea......)
Starship Troopers should be mandatory read in all schools tbh....

and well - switzerland still exists. not sure how long tbh, lots of sellouts in politics, driving us into thte hands of EU and NATO...
