2 years of living with just the phone key and 100s of instances where it doesn’t unlock, I finally ordered a key fob. Thank you for the instructions for all the different buttons, I had no idea when I ordered as my main issue was unlocking the doors. I forgot how useful a simple key fob was lol. Edit: I also noticed that every time my phone failed to open the door was due to low power mode.
Going to get one for my model 3. Where I work is a sketchy neighborhood and don't like being delayed when my blue tooth doesn't connect. There won't be a delay in getting in the car with a fob.
My wife's phone was totally unreliable so we purchased a fob for her. Happy wife, happy life. The fob is passive so there's no need to press the fob to enter the car and the car locks as you walk away.
Have had the fob since purchasing my model S, love the no hassle entry and exit. Plus car is on once you are inside. Still use the phone to monitor my car and to use summon. Batteries last over a year and a breeze to replace.
@@mknlb50I've recently only had issues with the phone connection. But like you said. You got key cards free. You don't need to buy a fob. This is an extra feature. You don't need it
Bought one as a backup. Keep it in my laptop bag. However, if you leave the key fob in the car and walk away with just your phone, the car will not automatically lock. Funny how I know this. 🤔
I think if you leave fob and walk away with Bluetooth on your cell it will lock the car , at least this always happens to me , now I tried walking away with cell and Bluetooth off , yes it will not lock.
For some reason, when i had my phone in my pocket, i was inadvertently entering incorrect passcodes and my phone was locked for 15 minutes. When i went back to my car, i was able to open it for some strange reason, but i couldn’t drive away. Luckily i had the key card in my backpack, so i used that. I think the key fob would be a great backup in case i get blue tooth failure.
Thanks, Chris, another awesome and useful video! Always look forward to your videos, I watch ALL of them. MY delivery July 27-Aug 10, getting excited, then I can use your coupon codes to buy my accessories you recommend.
I wonder how this would work as a service key or valet key? Looks like it might be harder to lose and will hang on a key hook easier compared to a card.
On the car screen when you set it to valet then the car will automatically limit certain features to key fob use. Also when on valet the glovebox and front truck won't open which is good for securing valuables.
Hey Chris. I believe it does for my model Y with the model 3 key fob. I'll double check it again today. It could be because my model y is brand new and it was added to the newer models?
How can you close the charge port with the key fob without using your phone? I tried opening mine with the fob and then it wouldn't close on its own. Unlike when opening it from inside the car, it closes after a few seconds
I have to open the app all the time to be able to unlock the car, so that’s annoying…. I know you can have your phone always connected to the car but I think it would keep the car awake most of the time
I have a 2017 model x and it came with two key fobs . The best feature is I bought it . at a time I have lifetime free charging as long as I have the car😁
I am really upset that key fobs won’t be issued with the car. Since I ordered in 2021 and still no car, do i still get a fob ? They are so easy to keep in your pocket whereas phone no longer fit. I also worry about damaging my phone while gardening or working in wet or dirty places. Fob only has car info on it so if it dies, minor loss. If phone dies, life collapses.
Hi Chris, I am sick of appearing like I am locked out of my Model 3, because I walk up and there is a delay with bluetooth (thanks for explaining that - I didn't realise it was bluetooth for the connection).I have a model Y coming so will get a FOB for that.
Farmer Farmerer and all: I don’t have my MYLR yet, but it is my understanding that NFC can also be used. Your Tesla app on the phone (app doesn’t need to be open) will just use NFC. Hold the phone near the center of the driver B pillar. Should work now on Android and on iPhone with iOS 16 (needed to allow 3rd party app NFC access, May also require Tesla app update). If this works, you won’t need the expensive FOB, or alternatively, a Tesla ring. Also, to “start” your car, just put the phone on the console where you would put the Tesla key card.

Loving the security and protection from Tesla. Thx!

Purchasing a MYLR AWD this week or next week. Can you have/ use the fob, cards and app as ways to enter the car?
Like any other car, a key fob should be included in the purchase as well as the garage door opener in this price range. Elon does scrooge too much.
Your phone literally is a key fob. Also the key cards. This is just extra if you want it
@@DamianSuicida610 It's not reliable. It stops working and I can't even get this sh** to work any more. I have to rely on a key card.

@mknlb50 that's still not a necessary tho. Also have you tried going through the troubleshooting steps on the app
Planning to buy a spare key fob. How do you pair a new fob with a 2017 Model S? I can’t seem to find any videos.
I love having a key fob and bought one for my new Tesla. Thank you for all the great videos you put out!!!

Wow I wonder if its a new feature.
Why they can't add a loop for key ring??? Crazy. I had to shell out even more
Does it works on tesla model y 2020?
And if i will buy it from Ebay will it works properly?
Thanks for another vid Chris! I’m taking delivery of my MYLR Aug 17 - Sep 21. I keep refreshing everyday to see if the VIN is assigned!
My 2015 model s came wit m with 2 key fobs luckily, my question is do you know where i can get the bumper refresh and instants installed?

Woohoo
Is the key fob the same for Model Y and 3? Or do they have different key fob models?
It’s different but similar! Still need to buy it
@@EverydayChris in the Tesla shop it says Key fob for Model 3/Y. Don’t know if that means if it’s the same. I ordered it anyway
Yup that’s the one. It just has unlock lock, trunk, trunk, charge port, no passive entry
@@EverydayChris you the best thanks
I am going to get it as well as the ring, and bracelet.
On Tesla website, how can I choose which key fob to buy? And how can I make sure I have passive entry?
All new tesla's have it now. For the key fob choose the model you have
Is there a panic button feature?
I wonder how this would work as a service key or valet key? Looks like it might be harder to lose and will hang on a key hook easier compared to a card.
They also sell key card holders
On the car screen when you set it to valet then the car will automatically limit certain features to key fob use. Also when on valet the glovebox and front truck won't open which is good for securing valuables.
Does Passive Entry work for the Model Y as well?
Not with the key fob alone as it needs the phone
Hey Chris. I believe it does for my model Y with the model 3 key fob. I'll double check it again today. It could be because my model y is brand new and it was added to the newer models?
Cool let me know!! Thanks Jared
If my phone is out of cell signal, would it be able to use the app to turn on AC remotely?
Only if it’s near Bluetooth
The summon feature doesn’t seem to work with the fob on my 2022 MY.
Hmmm I wonder if it’s different for the y and 3.
How can you close the charge port with the key fob without using your phone? I tried opening mine with the fob and then it wouldn't close on its own. Unlike when opening it from inside the car, it closes after a few seconds
Haha Chris "my name is Kunu. It means Chuck!"
Lolllll
For a moment I thought this key fob might have been an aftermarket version by a new company called “Tela” when I saw it in the intro graphics.
Hehe my bad spelling error
0:02 I found the intro text very funny because it said how to use the tela key fob
So how do you start the car?
Whenever you are in the car with a key it’s always started when you break just like the other keys
Thanks Chris! Last time I looked for a Fob, they were "out of stock"!
The key fob is great. Much easier than taking your phone and opening the Tesla app, and finding the Open Trunk/frunk or Unlocking.
How do you simply unlock the car with the fob for Model 3? Assuming it doesn’t have passive entry
Press the roof of the fob!
I have to open the app all the time to be able to unlock the car, so that’s annoying…. I know you can have your phone always connected to the car but I think it would keep the car awake most of the time
You have a typo on your title slide.
Good catch!!

The fob actually works without a battery in it too. Just not passively you need to tap it to the door pillar.
Can I order a key fob just for fun ? I really like how they are I like how they are like a car I got a dodge charger
Right?? They look cool
*Thank you....just bought the FOB but didn't know all of these features.* _carrying a cellphone is just dumb_ Lol
if phone is not connected, - just press on the phone's power button, - it will connect right away

There are tesla rings out there!

Please can you delivery a new key fob at me, because in Italy is non possible to buy the new one, only in the States unfortunately
It’s Paul Rudd but I can’t remember if it’s forgetting Sarah marshal or another film of his.
I use my phone. I really want a fob since my phone battery died a few days ago and I had to fish for the key card.
