    Sounds like a great option if buying new but not enough to incentivize a current HRM Pro user to upgrade except for the rare case.

    Great insights into the new HRM Pro Plus strap. I ordered one and am excited that I can just wear the strap to track my steps and do yard work without wearing my watch! I like this option because I get concerned about damaging the watch while working in the yard.
    I ordered the HRM Pro + to use with my new 955 after upgrading from a 405 and HRM1B Heart Rate Monitor. The HRM Pro + is not as comfortable as the HRM1B, and I don't believe the attachment clip will last. The HRM1B was sculptured to your body, you could just replace the stretch band, and it was easier to clean. The HRM Pro + is a throw-away device if the strap wears out or the attachment clip breaks! The production cost of this device is definitely less than the HRM1B. The little pad that goes between your body and the attachment clip on the Pro is not large enough to prevent the clip from digging into you. Unfortunately, the HRM Pro + is the strap to have if you own the 955, but I wish it was more comfortable as I also want to wear it without my watch to track activities like yard work (steps). I like the fact that you can do this with the HRM Pro +, and I can ditch the foot pod for indoor treadmill runs. Maybe I will get used to the strap, but after seeing many reports of the HRM Pro failing in a year or so, I am concerned about its longevity. Cross my fingers.
    I wore the new HRM Pro + for the first time today while doing yard work, and it tracked my steps and heart rate, but it also cut into my side at the clip! I know have a welt there after wearing it for five hours. The strap is as tight as my older HRM1B, and I have loosened it as far as possible. I don't believe it is too tight, but the design is flawed. The clip does not stay under the small flap on the band but rides up and contacts my chest digging into it! Not sure the benefits outweigh the lack of comfort while wearing.

    I'm kinda gun-shy about buying the integrated straps over the modular. I have an older (red) heart strap and after a while, it stopped providing consistent data. Lots of drop-outs. I washed the strap the best I could and it didn't get better. I went back to the older monitor that attaches to the strap. I can buy additional straps and the monitor is still going strong. Back when I was having problems with it I thought it was the monitor so I bought a couple additional. However, I've since discovered it was the strap. I wash the strap about once a week in with my regular laundry and hang it to dry. Plus, I bought the Powrlabs replacement straps. I haven't had the first issue with drop-outs since.
    I use a foot pod for running dynamics.
    I like the idea of the strap recording data without the watch. But just how reliable are the newer straps?

    How long did you run with the strap outside to get those results for pace/distance? DC Rainmaker says he did it for a few weeks to get the results that are close to Stryd. I've just done about two hours, and the pace and distance still seem pretty off running on an indoor track. The lane 1 of the indoor track should be 12 laps for one mile, but I just got .97 after 12 laps in lane 4, not to mention the pace read on my watch seemed really off as well the whole time. The results after showed more similar to what the pace likely was, but still seemed a little off. The pace was a tad faster than I have done on my outdoor runs though as it was cadence training while my outdoor runs were all longer distances, even though I tried to do some quicker paces at the end of the runs. How does it bucket these paces? Do I need to run intervals at exact paces to get the strap to track? Really love the idea of using this instead of buying a Stryd pod, but I'm just trying to get it to match up as closely as possible.
    Thank you so much for the review! It's appreciated!

      The HRM Pro/Pro Plus can collect your HR and steps throughout the day, so you'd have a pretty good estimate of your calories and steps for the day if you were to wear it all day but you wouldn't be able to manually log individual activities, at least with Garmin Connect. However, for activities, you could use something like the Strava app on your phone which can pair with the strap to log individual activities.

    Great video! Des - do you know if the Polar H10 can sync swimming data to a Garmin Fenix 7? i.e. does it load the same "syncing external heart rate data" step or does that only work with Garmin HRM straps? I'm trying to figure out my HRM strategy for an upcoming triathlon and I have the HRM SWIM and a Polar H10.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Год назад

      The H10 only works with the Polar Beat app and the HRM Pro only works with a Garmin watch, so both straps from both companies with the storage and sync feature are tied to each platform. Your HRM Swim will be your best bet with a Fenix 7. Thanks!

      I have the same question.
      I just wanna use this strap in combination with a new and modern cell phone which I still have to buy. The smartphone should take care of the gps stuff and this strap of the hrm.
      So what's the better pairing for daily running:
      1) Strap + sportswatch like Forerunner 265 or 965 + Garmin Connect app
      2) Strap + modern cell phone + Garmin Connect app
      Is the strap data format properly transmitted to the app or is a watch required to get all data?
      Technically this should be no problem, but I don't know if Garmin limits this to force users to buy a watch.
      Would be great to get some advice how to proceed.
      Thanks in advance and thanks for all the great videos! Keep at it!

      Unfortunately that's a limitation with Samsung Watches is that they don't natively pair to any external heart rate monitor. There is a watch face called Sporty Watch Face that can pair with external HRMs but it's not part of Samsung Health.

    @desfit can you tell whether you can use HRM Pro plus for treadmill, strength training too, to track Heart rate real time. I have Epix 2 and it is frustrating I guess with software update the HR is so inaccurate and showing so under for treadmill and strength training.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  2 года назад

      Yes, external HRMs will provide heart rate in real time. ECG HRMs like this HRM Pro Plus will provide the most in-real-time readings vs something like an arm-based optical HRM (which are still good but just have a few second delay).

    Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if I use Strava, and don't want to run with my phone or watch, can I use this strap to track my distance and pace? Like after a run will I be able to get the pace and distance synced to Strava without wearing a watch or running with my phone?

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Год назад +1

      The strap won't work independently to track distance and pace - it will need to be paired to a Garmin watch to collect those metrics. The only metrics it provides while not paired to a device are heart rate and steps which can be synced to Garmin Connect.
