Great podcasts Chris. I am very very new to Astrology. Started looking at the Western esoteric tradition about 8 months ago. I want to learn Horary, William Lilly. This is what you present? I am currently studying Picatrix. Best wishes from England 🏴
Robert Hand, Liz Green, Howard Sasportas, Stephen Arroyo. You can’t be serious without these ones. Hand has done more for me as a beginner than any other author.
My son began working in astrology at 14 or 15. I bought him the Ephemeris based on one of your videos. He has been eternally grateful and has used it almost to shreds. I read Cosmos and Psyche and loved and learned from it. I purchased Hellenistic Astrology and plan on reading it soon.
So close to 100k subscribers, it's been amazing seeing this channel blow up over the past couple of months. On a different note, may we get a "top" list of books for intermediate and advanced students at some point too? :) Edit: you're there! Congrats!! And here's to many, many more 🍻🎉🎊
Thank you Chris and Molly. This episode was absolutely wonderful! I really enjoyed the deep dive you took and very much appreciated the perspectives you both brought to the conversation.
Thank you Chris for this video. It's really nice when Astrologer's like yourself take the time and help beginners (such as myself) on finding the right information to learn from. I'll be hitting the local bookstore this week :-) Thanks again!
I read Molly’s article before I even knew about this podcast, so this was very informative as to how that list was compiled! Totally love Chani Nicholas’ book and her app and Week Ahead podcast are excellent as well. So appreciate this podcast and the vast amount of information that’s available
“Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water” allegedly comes from medieval times when the family would heat up a tub of water for bathing and take turns bathing in it. The baby was often the last to be bathed so the water would be dirtier and thus you might accidentally throw out your youngest when you emptied the tub.
I caught the astro wave a few years ago. My first book was Cosmos and the Psyche lol. Since then I’ve purchased more than a dozen books, most of which you’ve reviewed. Most dog-eared book is Steven Forrest’s Inner Sky. Thanks for this! ❤️ 📚
I'm sorry to be shallow but both your voices are so fantastic! Your podcast has become my favourite to relax/lift mood. Please continue to make super long episodes so I can enjoy to my heart's content. I'm sure the astrology side is good too ;-) Many thanks
I really appreciate this! As a newbie, its like traveling down a river with your sun sign and when you understand there is an entire chart with various aspects to it, you find yourself in a vast ocean. This is invaluable to someone trying to get barrings and possibly lift that sail to explore with confidence. What an amazing adventure!! I do not have a firm grasp on it just yet, however, the larger picture to this is breath taking. This has real potential to unite in the age of division. Greatly appreciated! Thank you! Edit: Lilith Keepers of the Flame by Mary Blue. One of the few books I have on astrology but, was crucial to my journey into astrology.
Great video! My favorite astrology books are: Astrology and Fate by Liz Greene plus all her other books. Charted Territory by Nate Craddock. This book is good for beginners because he uses stories and writes in an engaging way. Planetary Threads by Lynn Bell The Archetypal Universe by Renn Butler Jungian Symbolism in Astrology by Alice O. Howell. This is great for beginners who are interested in Jung. It is a collection of letters and easy to read. Hellenistic Astrology by Chris Brennan Astrology and the Authentic Self by Demetra George Cosmos and Psyche by Richard Tarnas
Thank you for the book recommendations Chris! Your book is great. It is my favorite book. Be proud to recommend your book every time. It will help those who are interested and studying astrology. You did a wonderful job describing each book. Thank you, much love.
Thank you both so much for taking the time to do this podcast. I thoroughly enjoyed your discussion and it flew by honestly didn't realize that it's about 2 and half hours long until you mentioned it towards the end. I have been discovering more in depth my love and appreciation for astrology more and more over the past couple of years due to the accessibility via the internet. I have had a fondness for astrology since I was in high school in the mid 90's and had acquired some books like The Astrology of relationships" and others based on those concepts, but I never studied it so in depth until shortly after my solar return in Capricorn 🌞 2019. I believe what initially connected me to getting back into my study of astrology was through discovering and starting to follow Tarot Reading on RUclips. So fascinating to hear about the timelines and resurgence of astrology in our modern times related to my personal experience. I actually started studying this week with Acyuta-Bhava with Nightlite Astrology and am enrolled in the first year course "Ancient Astrology for the Modern Mystic". Who I was actually introduced to through an episode you "Chris Brennan" on this channel and have been following his channel as well ever since. The first official book I have gotten is your book actually partially due to the fact that we follow it in the course I'm taking, but I actually have been planning to get it anyhow . Before receiving the text I just have a bunch of screenshots from the book on different episodes you've done. Wild times we are living in for sure. Really really appreciate what you guys are doing for the astrology community. Thank you 🌞
I also have such a list but my list has completely other books in it. The only book I also have in my list, that was mentioned above is the book of Chris about Hellenistic Astrology.
Thank you Chris I loved this...I have your book and all of the others that you mentioned ... I have a few of Demetra George books, can't wait for Demetra's new book to be published and looking forward to Kelly Surtees book also. I so love astrology ..I can't walk past a book shop without checking out their astrology section.
Chris would you ever consider creating an audio book version of your book? I would love to purchase it but it's difficult for me to learn through reading.
I'm trying to but I'm having some issues with Audible where they are blocking me from getting started right now because someone tried to create a pirated audio version earlier this year. For now my Hellenistic astrology course is essentially a more detailed version of the book, largely presented through audio lectures.
@@TheAstrologyPodcast Oh that's too bad. I hope that gets cleared up I'll definitely be purchasing it once it does. I've been wanting to take your course though so I'll probably just do that! Thanks!
Highly recommend: "Astrology: A Cosmic Science" by Isabel Hickey. It's accessible for beginners, and useful for those with more advanced knowledge who wish to fine-tune their knowledge. A must read!
I’d definitely check out cosmos and psyche since pompous is my second language… (just kidding). I somehow do well with that language, but I feel outer planets get left out because they’re not viewed as “personal”. I could say something borderline something.. caution.. we’ve had numerous generations focused on self where it isn’t surprising planets started as generational get ignored despite them having big impacts on individual charts. It maybe started in the 40’s, maybe later. I think that may fold on itself soon. I’m guilty of it also, not being snooty about it. What’s currently interesting to me is seeing some of the aspects with Neptune during the brief lockdowns and how some became sort of radicalized by the algorithms with pisces being opposite virgo. That sort of blur in rational mind may have peaked then as this premature spiritual awakening where They Live became a documentary. Those things fascinate me, the Ancient Alien PowerPoint method of twisting logic. It’s the thing of viral memes. I don’t feel it’s controversial to point it out and even point out distrust in the media right now relates to possible disillusionment of news where most stories end up factually wrong where research wasn’t thorough. The popularity of astrology these days seems to be about self understanding in many cases which is the best way (to me) to figure out how we are alike and different in real/meaningful ways. It could be part of the Neptune transit through pisces in that there may be more openness to various spiritual practices as opposed to the prior transit. Definitely not reading anything Hellenistic.. (joking).. if I keep getting pulled into astrology that’s the only place left to go. My last dream house dream there was a room with this large high ceiling with a pyramid like structure where you could lay in a skylight to watch the stars at night, but tree limbs were blocking the view being a little unkept over the years. All I know is if you fell asleep and had to use the restroom that kind of contraption is a sure way to die.
I'm sure all the Russians will smile at the mention of Absalom Podvodny's books - would appreciate it if someone could list the sources he borrowed from
I didn’t watch this video yet, but I think it would be cool if y’all did a video on the tropical lunar mansions. I think y’all did an episode on astrological magic with Austin, and I know the mansions in Western astro at least are often used with magic, but idk if they were actually mentioned in that video since I never watched it.
It's a pity to see that such a futile list creates such an ego battle. When you think you are the expert you loose the chance to share in a constructive way.
Let us know what some of your favorite astrology books are in a separate comment below!

Nobody:
Me: pauses the video to add all of the books on Chris’s bookshelf to my Amazon cart
I'm also a huge fan of Steven Forrest. He makes evolutionary astrology accessible for mainstream audience.
Robert Hand, Liz Green, Howard Sasportas, Stephen Arroyo. You can’t be serious without these ones. Hand has done more for me as a beginner than any other author.
@@osherpikadoactually I think Chris Brennan’s own book, Hellenistic Astrology, does just that, and does it perfectly. I’m reading it right now
Almost 100k Chris, you're almost there. Grats in advance, you more than deserve it, your work it's quality and genuinely appreciate it. Grazie
Love Chris Brennan's dry humor!
Love! Grateful. When you learn, I believe each person must think, “Why didn’t I know this sooner?” Astrology changed me completely at age 55.
@Astrology Hombre An increased self-awareness, an understanding of where I’ve been, and better direction for my soul path moving forward. ✌️
