It doesn't have to be Ds3 levels of gray, but something slightly less "alive" then what it is now. The concepts have a similar palette to something like SotC and it honestly makes everything look so mysterious and nice. The biggest examples are the 2nd artwork looking at Stormveil, the art of Godrick's arena, and the giant skeleton. They all look so much cooler and more interesting than the actual game. The only four areas in the game I really think capture this every so slightly nostalgic and mysterious feeling are Ainsel River, Lake of Rot, Capital of Ash, and Consecrated Snowfields. I hope that either for dlc, or for their next souls-esque game, they lean more on a darker color palette and have a more hazy vibe to everything.

God liurnia looks so much better in the concept art than in-game. Also the art of limgrave's wilds looks more similar to death stranding's aesthetic than anything we got in elden ring's final product. All around interesting to see how the environments changed
I absolutely agree, the misty pine forest in the water with Raya Lucaria looming in the distance is gorgeous. Another thing that really helps the concept art is the lack of the Minor Erdtrees in the final game, which (imo) really detract from the atmosphere the area tries to sell. The colors in the concepts also look fantastic, the lower saturation ties it all together for me.
I just wish they made the lake larger with less ruins blocking the view. Riding in the lake feels like a large swarm because it's hard to see how awesone it is.
Amazing content! By any chance BonfireVN, would you be able to do an exploration of the Prince of Death’s throne area? The infected tree has eyes and blight coming out as well, but can’t easily be fully appreciated in game on console.

And make the village hard to notice because everything in this area should look the same." Seriously, the entire area here is a disappointment compared to the concept art. The poison swamp is massive and looks the same; the path to the village blends in with everything else, despite being literally the ONLY thing of interest in the entire area. And the only enemies in the swamp worth even noting are the giant crabs, which you can just run past anyway.
I can’t help but feel like Liurnia would’ve looked better without those small erdtrees dominating the skyline. It’d be better as just complete emptiness above the fog besides the academy towering
No, that is Raya Lucaria. It just had the flying buttresses in-game Elphael has when it was still in the concept phase. The walkway and staircase, along with the small courtyard with a gate and tower on the right side you can see relatively close to the camera match up with the opening stretch of RL. If you go up the elevator from the Main Academy Gate, you can see the matching architecture.
Whilst concept art especially for these games always has more mood and color simply due to it being art, I think Elden Ring of all of the games most closely mimics its art counterpart (with BB being a close second). Definitely a positive to see From become more skilled at rendering essentially paintings into landscape. Also hot take but does anyone feel as if Liurnia could've been less blue during the day? I wish it was a bit more greyish and stormy.

Really wish they went with the Concept art easthetic more, it looks so much more beautiful and atmospheric/linear enough. The in-game looks so spaced out with less cooler lighting.
Art Direction > Graphical Fidelity every single time. FromSoft's oil painted style of art direction conveys a certain mystique, something very few games have even been able to do. Its feels like you are exploring a fading memory, a land lost to time. Its the reason I prefer Elden Ring's oil painted art direction over Demons Souls Remake's more realistic approach (that still used FromSoft art direction as basis). Imagine a remake by FromSoft themselves, it wouldn't look like what bluepoint delivered. DeSr is amazing but FromSoft game's art direction is special and unique. It may not have the most advanced techniques for ray traced lighting but its a piece of art, every frame is like an oil painting crafted by a master with love and passion.
I think Elden Ring kinda lacks a little bit in the atmospheric lighting and graphical vibrance in the open world sections. But gotta hand it to them, it's their first time and they still pretty much nailed it.
I am not sure of the options for PC but on PlayStation you can go to Adjust Image Quality and I suggest turning color saturation all the way for anyone who hasn’t already. It’s default to 5 but the colors really pop more, turn it up all the way and then go to Church of Ellen at night and you will see the difference right away
That is Raya Lucaria,it just had Elphael's flying buttresses in the concept art. The courtyard with a tower on it's right with a staircase leading up to said courtyard match up with the bit of Raya Lucaria you walk up once you leave the elevator room. It even has the same fancy gate you open leading to the staircase with two scholars.
How are you able to have access to all the models and environments like this? Like being able to hide the different layers? You also seem to have access to all the models and stuff.
concept looks better in most case but that’s only because in game washes out the clarity with fog, fog in general in games ruins the picture quality makes it look more washed out. I get the need for some areas to have fog but when 90% of a game has fog it just sucks , to put in so much effort in detail than to wash it out with fog effect is madness .
The collector's addition comes with a hardcover art book. There will probably release a separate comprehensive art book after the DLCs are out, at least I really hope that they will.

You already have Dark Souls levels of bleak in Dark Souls. Both are realistic. The dreariness of London is no more real than a bright day in the Caribbean. Real life has different atmospheres and moods for different places, why not games too? Dark Souls is about decay. Elden Ring is about growth. One is dreary, the other is hopeful. Both have their place.
90% of the game felt meticulously curated save for the lesser dungeons, cata, mines. So many other games have way more realistic graphics, even those that came out before but they all seemed so dull to me compared to ER's magestic art direction combined with it's staggering amount of interesting content makes you feel like you entered both a book and a painting

Do not mess with saturation it only ruins the color balance, more color doesn't equal to more pretty.
The game looks fine lol
When in game looks better than concept
You confused the concept art of the haligtree city location for the in game royal academy
It may not be the best game I've EVER played, but it sure is visually
How did you seperate the layers to animate them? Are you changing LOD or selectively rendering or what?
bruh the ingame aesthetic is even better than the concept arts and that says sthing
wait, elden ring got art book?
I don't get what are you trying do by removing assets and textures in each frame?
How are you able to have access to all the models and environments like this? Like being able to hide the different layers? You also seem to have access to all the models and stuff.
You can always count on From when it comes to turning concept art into in-game assets. Except DS2, but we don't talk about that one.
concept looks better in most case but that’s only because in game washes out the clarity with fog, fog in general in games ruins the picture quality makes it look more washed out. I get the need for some areas to have fog but when 90% of a game has fog it just sucks , to put in so much effort in detail than to wash it out with fog effect is madness .
I really wish Fromsoft would switch to Unreal Engine, their games would be top tier.
Where was this concept art taken from? I've been looking for ages and can't find the source!
The collector's addition comes with a hardcover art book. There will probably release a separate comprehensive art book after the DLCs are out, at least I really hope that they will.
Can anyone tell me what book is that one he is using?

Please make more videos like this!!!Elden Ring is amazingly preety but i prefer the concept art more...It has that Dark Souls vibe to It...I understand that they wanted to diferenciate more because its a New franchise but i would love to see an darker and more realistic version of elden ring...Also they probally had some hardware limitations to make this game run on last gen using their old Engine...Anyway ER is the most beatifull game i have ever played because of its art direction...The only thing a feel that IS really strange in the game its the sun that isnt bright enough, but i think we all know why its like this...
Both have their place.
where did you find the digital concept art please?
In game looks better than the concept art, I am still blown away by the masterpiece of Elden Ring, I think about it a lot.
Are there any concept arts for lyndell?
interesting
90% of the game felt meticulously curated save for the lesser dungeons, cata, mines. So many other games have way more realistic graphics, even those that came out before but they all seemed so dull to me compared to ER's magestic art direction combined with it's staggering amount of interesting content makes you feel like you entered both a book and a painting
Which book it is?
So uhhh.. Why is the Erdtree translucent? Is it actally even a tree? Or a projection?
It's a tree. The trunk isn't translucent.
3:33 it's not same areas bro
Definitely feels more Viking Scandinavia inspired than in the final game. I much prefer the grimmer and grittier colors of the concept art.
Name of ost, please???
Lyandell Royal Capitol.
