Finally! A Sega fan checks out some shops in Japan! Great video!! BTW - if anyone checks out Suruga-ya be sure to ask if they do tax-free, you can get an additional 10% off of those prices!
Oh, this store is great! I bought my Neo Geo Pocket Color there back in 2019. If you go back to this store I'd like to see the Gameboy CIB games. And the WiiU Games if there are any. I'm back in Japan May 12th and curious if this store is worth a visit for these two systems.
Sorry to say, Surugaya is far from under the radar (it's a very well known chain of secondhand shops) and the Shinjuku location... Is in Shinjuku. Everyone knows about it. 😅 Prices at that location tend to be higher than others since it's a touristy area in Central Tokyo, but they price stuff closer to market than the Book Off on the other side of the station 😂 Thanks for sharing your visit with us!
I’ve been a huge collector for years and I only heard of suru for the first time last year. I’ve also been to Japan before. I think a lot of people don’t know about it. Most people only know book off and super potato.
Planning to make it out to shinjuku next month and was wondering if you could include a deeper dive or look into the gba and GameCube sections. All good if not. Just curious about pricing of the other exclusive titles. Great video! Really enjoyed the tour and look at this store! Thanks!
Surugaya was a lot smaller than I thought when I visited last August. I actually left with nothing because I didn't see anything on my wanted list. I managed to get Sonic Adv 2 with coin set from Beep for about Y6000. That is next door to Suragaya in Akihabara, you need to take the steps to the basement but beware they don't like cameras much there. I am visiting in June doing the rounds. I have subscribed I will watch any video inside Japanese game stores.
lol awesome, i'm pretty sure that was you a couple days ago in the Sega Saturn section going through all of it acutely i recognize your face. i was there as well, the guy in all black/blk scarf i live in Shinjuku Yotsuya/Wakaba i moved here 5 yrs ago. I hope you enjoyed yourself and found some goodies good stuff right, also try the bookoff in shinjuku on the other side of the station, in akiba (akihabara) 2 bookoffs and surugaya as well. the Trader is good too. cheers 👊🏻🙂
Apparently Gameboy and GBA are the most in demand lately. I'd love to see more coverage of that. Also I'd love to see the loose, not-in-box games as well. They rarely get covered and those are the ones I plan to pick up.
Got to visit this location back in October. Admittedly, I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I think I would have because we got there mid-day on our first full day in Japan, and I was already just feeling out of it (jet lag, up since 5 am, walking all day, etc). It was also the first store we visited that had wall to wall shelves of just anime and games, and it was just really overwhelming and exhausting 😅. BUT we managed to pick up a few things for some great prices, I just feel like I probably missed a lot of cool stuff because I was in such a blur at that time! I'll have to stop by again next time I visit. It's definitely worth visiting for games and a whole lot more!
I totally understand the feeling! The shop is so big you kind of need to dedicate most of the day to it. Pretty much all I did that day was shop and get food. I was totally wiped after, and that was on a full nights sleep!
@@pixxellie lol yeah, we were on a schedule and probably only spent like an hour in there but I can only really remember about 10 minutes! Will have to make it a first stop after a full night's rest next time haha.
I was in Japan last year and somehow missed this store, I went to other Surugaya's and bought a ton! The one in Loft in Osaka was top-notch! Please can you show off the Wonderswan games at this one? Thank you!
I like this store a lot. I order from their online shop and yea, their prices are cheaper than what we find on eBay. I usually wait till they have a free shipping special before I buy from them. They usually ship to the US very fast too.
Wow, Acclaim's terrible WWF games are a constant even at game stores in Japan! And as a big SEGA fanboy, I can't wait to see what all was in their Saturn selection.
Wow!!!!!!!!! Nice video!!! I'm going for a month to Japan, this saturday we are flying there!!! we will go to this surugaya!! OP Nice video, thx, new sub
Do a deep dive on the USA valued prices of all the old-school game consoles,light-gun rail games ("Lethal Enforcers" is a top favorite of mine),and all of the old-school fighting games please. Thanks for this video and Thanks in advance for my deep dive request too.
Apparently a huge trove of dead stock Virtual Boy and Game Boy Color games was discovered in a warehouse somewhere. My friend is currently visiting Japan and a few weekends ago, we went nerd shopping in Gunma and Tochigi Prefectures and we saw those same games, brand new at Surugaya, Mandai, and other such stores.
Nice video, will follow for more! In terms of prices here in Tokyo, not that great, let's look at some examples: Sorcerian (MD) - 2900 yen in this video, 2100 yen on Mercari ゆみみみっくす(SS) - 2500 yen in this video, 1400 yen on Mercari Virtua Cop Gun Set (SS) - 4500 yen in this video, 3000 yen on Mercari Going game hunting in stores is definitely fun, and it's exciting to see what you could find, but the prices are way better online here, which is why us local collectors don't go to these stores anymore sadly. Thanks for the video!
Puyo Puyo Party N64 is basically Puyo Puyo~n, aka Puyo Puyo 4 seen on the PS1, GBC, and Dreamcast. If you like the series, it's worth picking up for your collection, no matter any of the 3 versions of the game. Personally I have the PS1 and GBC versions, the latter is pretty much just an updated version of Puyo Puyo Sun GBC, just not Super Game Boy compatible (since Yo~n GBC is a clear cart, while Sun is a black cart), and the Puyo Puyo 4 characters added in.
With rise of gaming expenses and big name companies that defined the 2000s and 2010s of gaming don't want to deliver quality games anymore. It's about time to go back to the classic.
I’ve never had an appeal of buying NTSC or NTSC-J games purely because I’ve grew up in PAL but it’s cool to see. I don’t like when people buy Japanese games to bring back and resell for silly prices.
I went all over the place to try to find a pc engine and ended up getting a core grafx for 100 dollars. Next time I am in Japan, I am buying that PC engine.
This Surugaya location is nice, but it's certainly not under the radar by any means. There are always just as many, if not more, foreign tourists there as Japanese locals. All the empty spots on the shelves is a sign that it's been picked over.
I know the selection is great here but the prices arent. If you think this is cheap then book off prices even in tokyo would absolutely amaze you. Yes i know this is a game shop but much like everything else you are going to pay pretty much retail if you go to a specialized retail shop.
Well said. Maybe she hasn't had many chances to go outside of the main tourist areas (Akihabara, Shinjuku, etc.) in central Tokyo so she doesn't realize what else is out there. Even with Surugaya, prices can vary depending on the franchised store, so a different Surugaya location can often be cheaper than the Shinjuku one.
I went to book off the following day, and the prices for almost every game loose, were the same as the CIB prices at surugaya. Book off tends to be way overpriced from what I have seen.
@@pixxellie Book Off and Hard Off also have a franchise system, so the franchises in tourist areas and near major train stations will have tourist prices. For example, it's not a good idea to use the Book Off in Shinjuku, or the Hard Off in Ueno, as your reference. Explore the suburb locations and see for yourself. Even with Surugaya, you can use the Japanese website to search for an item and see that the Akihabara store generally has higher prices compared to other locations like Chiba or Saitama.
@@pixxellie you are going to Tokyo book offs? I would leave the main city ones and try some outlying ones. I'm not saying you are wrong and if you are ok with those prices then by all means keep shipping there but there are tons of RUclips videos that prove otherwise. Maybe won't have the huge selection but at 50% or more off it's worth checking out and makes for more original videos. Check out 4amlaundry he finds crazy deas at book off
Too expensive anyway. Real retro hunting was until 2010. Now, all gaijin with youtube ruin the market. Just imagine that we enjoyed retro gaming with 1/10 (or more) of today's price back in the day. Who start to collect now are the big looser in this game.
