    Can we just appreciate the fact that she has covered both a negative and a positive case of children transitioning? Even tho she’s personally against certain things, she’s clearly not ignoring the positive side of them and that’s what I really respect about her👏🏻

      Brittany D why are you so condescending? How many years has the research been done? Name me all of your “credible” sources, all that aren’t biased, or have an agenda behind them. Children aren’t advised to be put on certain types of ssris until a certain age due to serious side effects later in life. So you’re going to tell me, that a medication that will permanently alter a child’s anatomy, is safer than antidepressants? I know it’s hard to see from the high horse you’re sitting on, but not every single person who disagrees with you, is “ignorant” or believes Blaire simple bc she’s trans. Pretty narrow minded take you have.

      Brittany D she always addresses both sides, but gives her take on it. I’ve followed Blair’s for a long time and don’t agree with half of it but I appreciate her approach over many other LGBT creators who just dismiss and demonize arguments that they disagree with. This isn’t her first good video, shes been bringing very good insights since the beginning

      Brittany D Honestly, you just seem like a bitch who has your head shoved all the way up your ass. I’ll check out your sources, although I would assume you would have provided links. The world health organization? For someone as smart as you believe you are, I’m shocked you listed them. I’d tell you to have a great rest of your day, but someone as miserable as you are, I can’t see it being a possibility.

      Brittany D she brings up a lot of conversations that would have you demonized in many lgbt circles. I’ve been in these circles and they can get pretty dogmatic to the point where even bringing up something different from what they are saying, you are seen as being a “bully”, or “intolerant”. It really sucks which is why I appreciate people who at least acknowledge the other side. Also how can you say “100% false”m that’s the kind of dogma I’m talking about. I appreciate nuance and wish that lgbt communities could be more willin* to hear it

    Emily is proof that there are trans kids who do transition as minors and live happy healthy lives post transition and it was the right decision for them SPECIFICALLY. And Elle is proof that not ALL trans kids should transition. Transitioning should be medicalized not politicized.

      Yes. Those who try to ban it for everybody have their own issues, sadly including our beloved Blaire. For them it's not really about The Children (i.e., pedophrasty), it's about their own insecurities (i.e., denialism). There's no reason to be polite and pretend that we don't all already know this, because we actually do.

      See thats the thing, i transitioned at 14 but not hormones for 2 years, and the whole issue people have are the medical side. My development wasnt hurt, and superficial things like a moustache and deeper voice can just be fixed later without sacrificing health and sexual development

  • @dreamerzone8
    @dreamerzone8 3 года назад +900

    I feel like the reason her transition was so successful was because it was so thorough. She began puberty blockers 8 years ago and hormones 7 years ago, and had therapists and doctors working closely with her all the way from pre transition until after. Back then gay marriage was not quite/just becoming legal in the US, so therapists and doctors weren't so afraid to be labeled transphobic by doing their due diligence.
    Now teens and kids are self diagnosing and getting hormones, with no therapy and no follow up. A clinic dedicated to facilitating transitions in the UK doesn't even offer therapy, psychologists don't feel they can tell anyone they're not actually trans, and they're resigning at an alarming rate. Arielle Scarcella made a great video on it.
    Anyways, my two cents. Just goes to show that transitions could be successful and everyone could come out happy, even at a young age, if medical and mental health professionals were allowed to do their job thoroughly.

    • @stephaniemoore8013

      Gay marriage has absolutely nothing to do with the problems were seing with trans activists.

    • @dreamerzone8
      @dreamerzone8 3 года назад +97

      @@stephaniemoore8013 I simply meant that gay marriage just becoming legal at the time was an indication of where LGBT acceptance was. People were still debating over whether two adults should have the right to legally marry each other. With that being the climate of LGBT acceptance, there probably wasn't too many people getting their panties in a wad about requiring some form of therapy/medical opinion before transitioning, especially at a young age. As opposed to now, psychologists can't even do their job without being labeled transphobic.

    • @notonfire7318

      I don't think therapy is necessary to give hormones when we're talking about adults since if adults are allowed to ruin their body with excessive alcohol then they can do whatever they want. Obviously for children extensive therapy should be necessary. But i really don't know any doctor who's prescribing hormones to kids freely without YEARS of therapy. Can u site your resources

    • @dreamerzone8
      @dreamerzone8 3 года назад +9

      @@notonfire7318 I agree, if you're an adult then you can do whatever the hell you want. Although I do think you should still consult your doctor and mental health professional, seeing as even adults need to go through those proper channels in order to get prescriptions and surgeries for other things. You're not getting medication for BPD or ADHD without having a diagnosis. So transitioning shouldn't be any different.
      Although I do agree with you. I'm more libertarian and think adults should be able to ingest whatever they want. But just make it consistent. Don't require therapy and a diagnosis for some things and not others.
      But my biggest issue is with kids and teenagers under 18. If you're not legal drinking age, can't get a tattoo without parental consent, or do a plethora of other things, then I don't think you should be able to medically transition without at the very least, going through the proper channels, including therapy.

      @@dreamerzone8 I saw the first video and I think it highlights the problems of healthcare systems rather than trans people. Like the fact that one trans guy had a waiting list of 2 years for therapy is really sad because gender dysphoria can be crippling to one's health. And I think it's also important for medical professionals to get a better understanding of what gender dysphoria is. My feelings remain the same. Puberty blockers should be allowed because they are reversible but hormones should be ideally harder to get. While we're still getting a better idea of what transgender means we also need to realise doctors and psychologists are probably the best bet at deciding to give hormones. Because in some cases dysphoria can be so bad that it leads to suicide and in that case giving hormones to a 16 year old is the best thing imo. It's not ideal but it's better than death

      I think there are outliers like Emily and Blaire. I don't agree with kids medically transitioning ever, but I 100% agree that Emily was always a woman inside her soul. It's just a vibe. Your personality is formed by the age of 7 as is sexuality most of the time and your likes and dislikes are formed by the age of 5. It's off topic but it's an interesting parallel I noticed as a counsellor. I never wanted to eat meat because I felt in my soul that I couldn't harm an animal or eat one from age age of three and before that I'd cry over any meat as a baby. There's such a phenomenon as a born vegetarian, something in our genetics makes it so we're predisposed to being vegetarian. Then others decide to be for whatever reason that may be. I do think it's all in genetics and brain chemistry. I knew I was bisexual from a young age too and it was just intrinsic. I think a select few trans people were just always going to be trans no matter what and they were somehow switched up into the wrong body. I would never second guess Emily was a woman nor Blaire. It's really beautiful tbh for me. I love how Blaire represents both sides. As an LGBTQ person myself I'm sick of the 6'8 Blossom crazy linebackers spouting their bs and representing our community. Blaire is our queen ❤

      I agree with this. I considered having a hysterectomy at 26 because I have endometriosis and it's very debilitating. I had a child when I was 20 and was sure that I didn't want anymore. In the end I went a different route and I'm so relieved I didn't make that decision because I'm 31 now and hope to have another baby in the future. I know that everyone is different and I'm not saying some people aren't correct when they decide they don't want kids at all, but it scares me to imagine making a decision like that when I was 18, let alone 12. I though I knew everything and definitely didn't ever want kids and wouldn't have been that concerned about my fertility. There is no way kids that age should be allowed to do this. Allow them to transition socially and get them help and support. But adults shouldn't be allowed to decide these things for children. I wasn't even allowed a hysterectomy for serious health issues at 26, even though I already had a child and my life was really difficult due to my condition. I'm so glad they refused to allow me to make that decision when I was still so young as things are much better now and I'm hoping to have another child one day. I'm 31 now.

    I use to think I was a boy since I was in kindergarten, I hated girl clothes I always took my brothers clothes. I hated my hair being long. And I thought girls were so cute. My mom thought u was trans I even asked people to call me jake cause I thought the name was nice. But the older I got, the more I realized I just admired girls and how pretty are lol. More and more time passed I almost went to hormone blockers. I met this boy and I was at an awe, I never looked at boys a certain way but he was so handsome at our age. And so nice we became best friends and I talked to him about everything. He told me “you don’t act like a boy you just like boy things” I thought of what he said and I went home the middle of the night I looked at myself in the mirror and I smiled cause being a kid and the fact that the things I did was considered “boyish” I thought I was a boy. I looked at myself naked and I saw my boobs coming in and I was happy. I think about it all the time. If people didn’t label things as “for boys” “for girls” children wouldn’t be as confused. I wasn’t happy in my body I hated looking like a girl and being a girl. But that didn’t stick. I’m a woman naturally and I have a husband and when I tell him about that story he gets surprised and says “it sounds like you were a Tom boy” and that was exactly what I was. I look back and wonder if I didn’t meet that boy would I have made a decision I would regret? (Edit: thank you for this response I hope this made people feel less alone. I am bi for those who are wondering. Thank you all for reading my story. Have an amazing day and please stay safe)

      I also had 'boy interests' and disliked girly things and thought I as a kid that maybe I was trans (this would have been late 90s). I also was starting to suspect that I liked girls in a like-like way, though I already knew I liked boys. I was super nerdy so what I did was research transgender topics online and read a bunch of testimonies from people who had transitioned happily, especially ftm transitioners, and what I found was that the way they described themselves wasn't like me at all. They all seemed to talk about internal/instinctive things, often a sense that started at a very young age, and a feeling of 'wrongness' around being seen as female (dysphoria, though I don't remember learning that term back then). The happy FTM transitioners that I saw had all taken a lot of steps to look handsome and strong and masculine (testosterone obviously, but also working out, tattoos, carefully groomed facial hair etc) and the idea of looking like that was not at all appealing to me. I was able to realize thanks to these people who wrote about their experiences that I was just a girl who liked "boy" things, and that was one of my first steps in realizing how utterly stupid gender norms were. My interests weren't the same thing as my identity and neither was how I dressed. I think had been born 10-15 years later, I'd have encountered all the (for lack of a better term) tumblr ideology instead and have maybe been lead down a different path. It would have been extra confusing if I was lesbian and not bi. I'm really grateful I didn't have that culture around as my main reference when I was more impressionable.

      I agree with this so much, growing up with older brothers I always wanted to be included with them. When they would play with other boys, the other boys wouldn't want me to play but my brothers would always include me and I would act more boyish to fit in ( I would rough while playing football to not be seen as the girl who has to play). Even now as an adult, my 6 yo nephew will sometimes says things like it's just for boys (he loves me and plays with me but he does love being classed as a lad with his grandads) but my dad will just say she's one of the boys ... I am a lot more girly now but I am still a tomboy at heart and will not be left out because I am a girl.

I remember being 5 in the car with my mom and I say, "mom, I don't want boobies. They're gross." 🤣 I'm 20 now, have a husband and a son. I have definitely learned to be a little more feminine but I still wear boy clothes occasionally and still do more "boyish" stuff 😅

      I was somewhat similar growing up too I was definitely a tomboy in the 90s as a child but slowly transgender became more mainstream almost trendy and the word "tomboy and tomgirl" phased out so everyone who originally felt like a tomboy would've been conditioned into thinking that we were really trans. Boy am I glad that I didn't grow up with that kind of social conditioning. Otherwise I would've done something I would've regretted as well. Im proud to be a natural born woman who happens to embrace my masculine side as well. And I wouldn't have it any other way

      @Turquoise Cheetah , probably you didn't noticed, that Emily did start transitioning way before, this whole transtrending kids became a fad amongst woketards. Back in these days, this whole process was still in the hands of top professionals, who enforced a strict protocol, that especially woke progressive parents had no chance to do any harm. Also: bipolar personality disorders, autism, borderline, mental development deficiencies, pathological narcism etc. were still seen as counter indications, which meant that any potential transitioner, who was diagnosed with any of these, was denied any form of trans related treatment first. This actual surge of really horrible left radical trans wannabes and regretters just became apparent after these once so strict standards of care became watered down, because they were falsely declared by left extremists as "discrimination". - I saw this all coming an warned the community about the dangers and guess what .... they called me a Nazi!

    I think what is so difficult is that a transgender kid probably knows he/she is transgender since early age, but not all kids that feel that urge to experiment the other sex are transgender. And many kids go through that phase actually and it goes all the way through puberty when we affirm ourselves at many different levels.
    So I am really happy for Emily in that respect.
    I am still, however, overall against the transition of kids and teens because we still do not have a sure mechanism to know if the kid is actually transgender or is just going through some sort of confusion or growing pains.

      blockers have little to no permanent issues, other then minor things like being shorter in the case of mtf compared to to their peers. hormones are where issues start happening I think 16-18 is area in which they should think of doing hormones, as by this age bracket you still get a few years of teenage growth, social transitioning I think can start anytime and blockers are used in cis kids anyway if they start puberty too earlier e.g girl starts getting a period at the age of 8, so I think they can happen prior to puberty because it stops puberty for those that don't want their assigned at births puberty and those that still questioning have that grace period where they can confirm and doesn't matter which way they go in the end they are not adversary affected in the long run.

    I don’t care how Emily felt, ten is still way to young. This video didn’t convince me in the slightest that teens should be allowed to transition. One thing that really stuck out to me was when Blaire asked Emily about not being able to have children in the future and if that was something doctors discussed. I mean ….Emily was 10. At that age you’d most likely would shrug that question off in confusion and be more interested in doing what feels good to you. I do understand that this video was about showing another side. It will be interesting(maybe not the right word) to see the consequences these types of drugs have on women and men ten, twenty, thirty, etc, years down the line. What I mean by that is to force our bodies to do something unnatural, like try and turn into the opposite gender.

    I’m studying to be a therapist, and given my experience being trans, I feel like it could be valuable for becoming a gender therapist. But what scares me is this broadening definition of the term “trans”. I don’t want to scare potential clients off for not diagnosing everybody I see, but I just don’t think that telling some people what they want to hear is a good thing.

    • @stacys3857

      Cheshire Cat just follow the DSM and do what is best based on clinical research. Have integrity and don’t worry about what people think. Also, you don’t necessarily have to tell them what you think. Guide them for their benefit. Many psychologists are highly Machiavellian, which isn’t always bad.

    • @axessenter
      @axessenter 4 года назад +19

      My therapist has never told me what he thinks except for 2 instances, one of which being him telling me that the reason my mum treated me the way she does is because she is narcisstic. The other is personal. But besides that all he ever did was ask questions or give advice if I wanted it concerning psychology issues as I am studying psychology Bachelor as well. Although for me I want to go into the criminal field.
      His opinion has always been that a therapist isn't there to talk, they're there to ask questions and to guide the patient through the process of self-reflection and self-improvement. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't diagnose someone, that's your job, among other things. But he's always described himself as more of a red string I can hold onto than an arrow pointing me in any direction. He's just a tool nothing more (in his words not mine xD). And honestly, as a therapist you will not be liked by every patient. That's inevitable, I would not even start thinking about that. My therapist is amazin and has had people leave horrible reviews, like THE worst 😂 We have enough therapists already too afraid of stepping on someone's toes to diagnose properly, we need more therapists unafraid to be the „bad guy" if necessary.

Being a straight guy I have little understanding how anyone could “feel” like a different gender. I have plenty of female traits but that’s just part of being human to me. We all have both energies, I just don’t understand the need to change your body. I respect anyone who approaches it like you though. You look at all sides of it instead of just saying oh yeah one I transition everything is perfect. We definitely need a better definition of trans and how to diagnose dysphoria. Seems we definitely have a lot of people thinking they are trans or have dysphoria when that’s probably not the case. I appreciate you pointing out the good while also hi lighting the not so good. All in all Thank you for just being you.

    If I could have transitioned at 10, I wouldn’t have nearly as much depression and anxiety. The damage testosterone did to my body is mostly irreversible... and I’m fairly lucky to not have drastically masculine features.
    With all that being said, there should definitely be medical guidelines and psychiatric evaluations before young transitioners are treated. The medical code F64.2 exists for a reason.

      Every time I hear how people are upset by what puberty did, especially calling it damage I think, "I know, it is so upsetting that your body went through a process to reinforce the bones and organs so they aren't as frail. Curse the damage of becoming stronger and able to survive greater hardships in life." For a child, being tackled by someone that weighs even 50 to 100 pounds more than you risks permanent injury or death, but as an adult, unless impacted in a certain way, you can be tackled by even someone weighing 200 pounds more and you can get up with minor injuries.
      That perspective will come really handy when considering things like car accidents.

    The thing that I'm more worried about is not so much children deciding and regretting it later, but more of the children that are being groomed and forced to transition because of their deranged parents. I'm happy she found her happiness in an early transition, but it was a choice she made for herself, not one that was made for her. That's why we need a concrete way to diagnose people and not just give people hormones and blockers all willy nilly.

Are you going to raise her as a tom-boy?!" WTF! I was hurt because, 1) it was my mom's gift 2)my mom was a tomboy 3) there are both girl and boy penguins. It’s lack of proper parenting. Toys and clothes are targeted to specific genders according to stereotypes that have existed and developed over hundreds and thousands of years. Stereotypes exist because a majority of a group like a certain thing. Girls tend to go for frilly things, bright colors, etc, whereas boys tend to go for muted or dark colors and more bulky, grungy things. No it doesn’t apply to everyone, but it does apply to a majority. This is proven time and time again when toys are offered to babies.
      As a tomboy, it never occurred to me that I must be a boy because I enjoyed hanging out with the boys and liking “boy” activities. My parents threw the word out that just because I enjoyed the guns, getting dirty, and playing sports that was ok.
