Is there an award we can nominate this for?! Best ever. Thank you so so much. I streamed tears start to end. An animal's time on earth is such a galactic starburst, burns so bright for too short a time.
Olive is the dog I had for so long -- I watched him as a puppy, I watched him as he grew older, I watched as his muzzle got gray and as he slowed down. Watching a dog you love grow older is a gift, because it teaches us to appreciate every day, every moment all the more. Olive must be 10 going on 11 now -- I so hope she lives for many years more, because while Mabel is the silly and loveable one, Olive is the one growing old with dignity, the way we all hope we will. Thank you, Andew, for reminding us to appreciate the rare moments, the beautiful moments.
I'm old and a widower and approaching my final transition and when I reflect on the joys of my life, my wife and I always measured it in "pet moments" as they brought us such joy. We shed more tears over pets than we did people and pet lovers understand. Take a look at what Mark Twain said about cats. It is inspiring to know such a great man had such great compassion. Best of luck to all of us!
So lovely. When my aging parents moved in with me in 1994, we got two Labs, a black female and a yellow male who were littermates. I was still working and we were looking for something to keep our mom and dad busy and active. Molly and Bailey were the perfect answer. We had them for more than 11 years and they were the most wonderful companions for our family and for each other. Bailey was the last one to die but not until he saw my dad through several years of Alzheimer’s disease. On days when Dad didn’t know much else, he knew his dog and loved him to the end. Our family and Bailey gathered around Dad’s deathbed during his final hours and one of the last gestures I remember Dad making was to reach out and rub Bailey’s head. Thank you for this wonderful video. It brought back some really great memories. What would we ever do without dogs? What a wonderful gift they are.

I’ve raise seven labs over my life. Every pup hated the new one. Then suddenly loved the new. And taught the young one so much. Best days. Miss those days.
We said goodbye to our little dog three weeks ago and the house is unbearably empty. She's left a gap so much bigger than her small self. Watching this brought me joy.
We waited a year after our Lab passed away and I happened to find an animal shelter while surfing the web. One of the rescues was a type of coonhound and I told myself that if she was still not adopted in 30 days she was coming home with us. Her name is Daisy Mae and she's curled up on our bed as I write this. There are so many angels who need a second chance.
My girl passed one week ago. English Mastiff, 9 years old. She leaves behind a brother, an Irish Wolfhound also 9. He's still not sure what's going on. But then, she was always the bright one. Does my heart so good to see Olive and Mabel being just two great dogs, enjoying life and love together. Thanks for sharing them with us. ❤
Ive never felt more pain than losing our 12 year old Siberian Husky last year. I wish you the best in moving forward. They may not be here physically anymore but they’re never gone.
A lovely, lovely reminiscence-to-present of Olive and Mabel. What a delight to see their early history, and how loving and generous Olive was (and is) towards Mabel.
My golden lab Billie turned 12 last week and her COVID-inspired chocolate lab friend Toby is three next month. Nine years is a big gap. Four to five years would be best. My two are the best of mates and I will weep without control when Billie leaves home for the last time. The joy these closest of friends bring to our home is boundless and I have been so happy to follow the adventures of Olive and Mabel during difficult times. Thank you Andrew🦮
Thank you for this--it brought tears, This is the story of our black Lab, Sawyer, who did not eat for two days after we brought home a puppy we found in a trash bag, a 12 week old sheepdog mix. Sawyer was a sweet dog but initially she growled at Dixon's attempts to play. Then, like Olive and Mabel, they became best friends. Eight years later, Sawyer died, on July 21 this year, and watching Dixon grieve with us was heartbreaking. She lay by the front door, waiting, for hours, for Sawyer to return. Twice, when she heard the sound of Sawyer's metal collar tags, she ran excitedly from the other room, then lay by the door again, quietly waiting. She became very anxious if one of us left the car, for example, to run into the market. If we both left her alone in the house, when we returned, she was frantic, as if we'd been away for weeks rather than a couple of hours. Only now, 7 months later, is she settling down.
oh poor dear sweet thing. Many don't realize how attached animals get to each other so while it is so much fun to have a friend they are so sad when they pass away.
They need closure. They need to know what happened. They can’t accept their friend going out the door and not coming back. It is why when Ramses died I stopped at my parents house on the way to the vet so Candy could sniff him and know that he was gone. And why I brought Diana to my parent’s house when it was Candy’s time so she could sniff her after the vet had left. Dogs are accepting of death. It’s the not knowing they can’t handle.
This is literally the story of my two black labs. The youngster idolising the older one (who looked remarkably like your black lab). He looked after her until he got old and then she looked after him. They absolutely adored each other. He died a year last October and she still misses him. 😢
"Two Dogs Better Than One". I learned that over 30 years ago when my friend gave me her Westie Boy to go with my Westie Girl and it gave her a new lease of life and she lived until she was 16. I, soon, acquired a family of 3 Westies and now had 2 Boys and 2 Girls and it was a wonderful decision though I lost one each year from 2011-2014. I got a 6-month-old puppy from neighbours soon after losing those 4 Angels and started looking after dogs and now, aged 10, he has a Daughter who is 5 tomorrow, and the Mum and another daughter live in my road and I see them most days. THREE MAIN Advantages. They have each other at home, in the park, and when you are out. I, also, "inherited" a Yorkie (8)😀
Mr. Cotter, I fancy myself to be immune to the openly sentimental; but this little love poem to your beautiful dogs - expertly leavened with moments of goofiness - went straight to my heart and tear ducts. There is something pure and ineffable about our relationships with animals, and about theirs to each other, that you captured with a crystalline simplicity and directness. Thank you so much. All my best wishes to you.
Such wonderful girls. God bless. We lost our chocolate lab Abby to cancer in March of 2022 and my wife and I cried on and off for a few weeks. I'd see her collar on the coat rack or one of her toys and just break down. You don't realize how much you love your best friend until they're gone.
Said goodbye to my first pup yesterday after a long, beautiful 14 years. She got to pass on her wisdom to my other puppy, who I got at 3 months old and is 2.5 years now. This video warmed my heart so much, thank you ❤️

When I saw the puppy I was so worried that something had happened to Mabel that I could barely enjoy it. Now I can go back and enjoy it fully. What a huge relief!!!
I was so happy to meet both Olive and Mabel at a book event in Edinburgh a couple of years ago. They brightened my pandemic. Last month we lost our pup of 15 years. The circle of life is beautiful and sad.

@@timmytwodogs I'm so glad you found another friend. I'm waiting for my mother to be ready and then we'll see about the same.
I grieve with you.
Ive never felt more pain than losing our 12 year old Siberian Husky last year. I wish you the best in moving forward. They may not be here physically anymore but they’re never gone.
@@boejiden1065 I grieve with you, too.
Bless your heart. I feel your pain. X
Wow-two fantastic breeds of giant dog. So sorry for your loss ❤
Bless you for giving these beautiful pups a fantastic, joy filled life as part of your family.
Pure magic. These are my absolute ultimate favorite videos. You have such an incredible gift, Andrew. Thank you for sharing Olive and Mabel with us!
😟💜🙏
@@KayleeGrace Niles, our older Lab-Cross, did the same when we lost Scooby to Cancer.
They know
They need closure.
What a beautiful video, if not a bit of a poignant reminder about how quickly time goes by with these incredible creatures...thank you.
Our times with our canine friends are too short. God bless Maple and Olive!
This was so tender. Thank you 🙏
Good choice of word. Agree and think that's why it's hit a nerve for so many.
This is an exquisite piece Mr Cotter...
Two souls are never alone...
Thank you Olive and Mabel...

I sit here longingly watching Olive. I had a male black lab and he was the love of my life. I miss him….💔
Love this video. May very well be one of the best dog videos I've ever seen. Well done!
What sweet memories. Brought tears to my eyes. Life with our fur buddies is never long enough but the love is. Thank you Mr Cotter for sharing.
Thank you, Mr. Cotter. Thank you for sharing your very good dogs with a weary world. ❤
🙏🐕🦺✨
@@erin3292 Thanks
Said goodbye to my first pup yesterday after a long, beautiful 14 years. She got to pass on her wisdom to my other puppy, who I got at 3 months old and is 2.5 years now.
This video warmed my heart so much, thank you ❤️
Hi, this is a beautiful video, I enjoyed it very much. Love Katherine
Love Olive and Mabel, day brighteners, for sure.
Beautiful....just heart-bursting beautiful! Pass the tissues, please. Love these two pups, long may they live. Thank you, Mr. Andrew Cotter, for taking such good care of them and sharing them with us. You are a great Dog Dad!
😍Love them snoozing back-to-back!
Lovely, and tx from the USA for this
When I saw the puppy I was so worried that something had happened to Mabel that I could barely enjoy it. Now I can go back and enjoy it fully. What a huge relief!!!
Same! 😍😍
EVERYONE had the same reaction until Andrew responded by telling us Olive & Mabel were both fine! I had the same reaction, too.
Mabel??? I was worried about Olive!
Me, too. There will be the day.😢
Stop it! I got all emotional. Your dogs are beautiful and so is your voice. Don't stop, make more videos. Love from NC, USA
Andrew, you have a gift for giving us exactly what we need exactly when we need it. Thank you.
I was so happy to meet both Olive and Mabel at a book event in Edinburgh a couple of years ago. They brightened my pandemic. Last month we lost our pup of 15 years. The circle of life is beautiful and sad.
That is awesome just mentioning Olive & Mabel. I think a LOT of people ignore Andrew Cotter. (Sorry)
Hearing you admire your dogs makes my whole body smile...you sir are a good hooman and they are lucky to have you 🫶🏻
One of the best things I've watched in such a long time! amazing and so true!! ❤️❤️
Beautiful! Best short film ever. Lots of work went into this lovely video. Thank you!!! ❤️❤️🖤🤎
Thank you for this lovely video. I couldn't imagine Olive being anything other than a perfect big sister.
Such a beautiful video full of simple love and joy. Dogs are the best. ❤
Well that’s me crying now…you have two beautiful dogs,
Wonderful, they could teach us a thing or two about unconditional love. Animals are the best❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Oh my goodness weeping buckets. Beautiful Andrew 😊
Man this made me miss my lab soooo much. Rip Midas. It’s been like 10 years and we still tell stories of your greatness
Me too ❤
Feeling the same about my golden retriever and big, black shaggy mutt. What a joy this oair gave us.
Mr Cotter you truly are the best story teller EVER! Thank you so much for sharing yours & your dogs lives with us!! You are the best thing that happen during covid!
Thank you💕🐶
Thank you💕🐶
How precious they both are. Your commentary almost brings tears to my eyes. Lovely!!
I WATCH THIS VIDEO OVER AND OVER I LOVE IT
Love how these 2 have been "brought up proper"!
Mabel levitating on the beach- priceless!❤
This was my favorite shot!!
I didn’t expect to be crying 😂. That was so gorgeous, thank you 🥰
It is bittersweet for me to watch these videos - I lost my beloved chocolate Lab, Abby, 5 years ago to cancer - she would have been 13 that month - she was the dog of my heart & has left a hole that will never be filled, but I am grateful & blessed to have had such a wonderful, precious girl for the time that I did - RIP, my perfect girl - Mommy loves & misses you 💔
What a beautiful movie. Top. Loved it.
That was beautiful. Thank you.
Next time I get asked why I got a second dog, I now have the perfect answer to send them. Thank you 🐾
They have each other at home when you're there. In the park to play and explore together and as company when you're out.:)
Listening to it all the way through, thinking you’d brought in another Puppy or narrating a departure.
Daren’t stop watching, even if I missed my station.
I have 6…yes 2 is better than one. I have 1 GSD, 1 GSD/St. Bernard, 3 Great Pyrenees, 1 Bloodhound….all rescues except the hound. Love them to bits. Thanks for the video. It made my day.
This was charming, you put it together so well, and put a smile on the face of a person who is really a 🐱lover. A heart stopper.
