I have been teasing this series for a very long time...and that's because it took a VERY LONG TIME to make...a twenty episode retrospective on every Sega developed arcade racing game in 3D! Because whether its retro gaming or modern pc gaming...Sega is the KING of the arcade racing genre! So buckle up and get ready for a retrogaming ride!
THE RULES FOR INCLUSION: 1) It must have had an arcade release (So no Sega GT) 2) It must be in 3D (Bye Bye Outrunners, etc etc) and 3) you MUST be racing against an opponent and not just a timer (sorry Crazy Taxi, Wild Riders)
Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kurangui, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane,
tobemorecrazy, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holder Schmidt, Tim Lehner, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj, Dorfus the Maple Syrup Man, John Booty and Craig M!
Up next: Club Kart: European Championship. This one is a weird little arcade racing game because its all just professional go kart racing. Retro games can be weird like that sometimes! But if you look past the randomness of go kart racing that isnt in a Crash Bandicoot racing game...you will realize this is just Daytona USA lite! Its definitely an obscure video game but its got a LOT to love and it runs on the Sega NAOMI 2...which was basically Dreamcast 2!
Its definitely a Sega Hidden gem! Its Ridge Racer in go karts! Or Mario Kart / Crash Team Racing with zero powerups?!?!

A massive arcade near my summer cottage (in a effing forest) had the deluxe cab of this game, and it was so loud, it shook the entire room. Literally sounded like someone was driving a real racing car inside the arcade.
Those deluxe cabinets could really make a room rumble
I love this game. I have it on my Naomi 2 emulator. It's hard as hell. This is the hardest racing game I've ever played. Im always in last place
First time viewer here, wow did I enjoy the video! So compact, but with many of the things you said specifically tied in with what was on screen at the time, it just made it all so impactful. While I've never been able to play club kart European Session, I very enjoy what I've seen and for sure the soundtrack (it was lovely to hear the music and sound effects mentioned), but I mainly know it for all the MECHATRO R&D developers' names being in the high scores. It's very rare, from what I've seen, for full first or second names to be used there. It was almost nostalgic to see the people's names throughout the video, like NAOYUKI (Sato) and (Tomoyuki) GOTO, back to February when I was first combing through RUclips videos to see them all.
So glad you enjoyed it. Welcome to the channel!
This is a pretty obscure one, looks fun
Yeah def most people seem to have not seen it per comments
I vaguely knew this existed, but it's not one I ever saw cabinet of nor have played. It does seem pretty fun. I can't think of many go-kart racing games that are a more realistic take versus the more Mario-Kart style of game. My uncle had Virtual Kart or something like that from Microprose for DOS (he had every Microprose sim game and also Papyrus racing games). That was fun for what it was, but Club Kart here seems a lot more up my alley. I *should* check it out...someday...
Yes pretty much every other kart racer is Mario Kart style. Which isn’t a bad thing at all! Honestly I prefer those
I remember a cabinet with an entire go kart mounted on a sort of gyroscope to “emulate” bends, leans and brakes.
yes there was a deluxe cab that basically simulated the motion of the go kart itself
Magfest usually has it setup every year and on a giant projector. So you can ride the cart looking at a huge screen.. if you ever go to the con one year.
Nice. Didn’t know that
I remember seeing the cabinet at a place called the Saloon at the East Gate in Dortmund's city center, which also once had Cruis'n Exotica and one of the Virtua Striker titles back in the mid-2000s. However, similar to the one arcade which once had Winding Heat and Time Crisis II, even that place is off-limits to minors as how I was at the time since it also had a casino with slot machines and a bar with alcoholic drinks. There was one game that was just outside the premises which was a game made and only intended for little kids called Space Bike, which has not yet seen a ROM dump as of now.
Man what a kick in the teeth. An arcade that doesn’t allow minors in. I mean why even thought of that idea
@@VideoGameEsoterica The arcade where this game was at still exists, but it's been stripped of the arcade games it once housed, reducing it to a mere casino-bar hybrid and making it feel rather empty.
Gambling never really entertained me. Poker sure but the rest of it never really did much for me
@@VideoGameEsoterica But nevertheless though, much like with Winding Heat and Time Crisis II, even I was able to play these three games that were there via emulation today, even though Cruis'n Exotica still doesn't really work well in MAME ATM. I did play the N64 port of Cruis'n Exotica when I discovered it and played it via the Project64 Emulator, even though unlike the original arcade game, the home version didn't see the light of day in Europe in where I live.
I have a Midnight Run 2 board I could convert into Winding Heat. Just gotta buy the blank roms
I once dismissed Go Karts for a long time until a girlfriend persuaded me to race against her son. I had so much fun, especially bumping all the kids off the track and being able to get away with it.
Oh I’m sure they are a ton of fun :)
i remember playing the big cab for this game as a kid, it was fun but frustrating
It’s def not the easiest game to pick up and play. There is a learning curve for sure
Imagine all the quarters you'd have to pump into this thing to get good at it XD .
It would cost a LITTLE for sure
2:40 Flycast emulates that as well so that’s not an issue anymore
Good to know. This is an old video so something must have been fixed since then
Sega taking the risks! A kart racer without mascots!? Blasphemy!
Hence me jamming mascots into the thumbnail lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica VideoGameEsoterica does what Sega don't!
🤣
Poorly photoshop heads onto other heads
I have played this on the Cycraft arcade machine it's really fun 🙂👍
Nice. Not many commenters today have actually played
@@VideoGameEsotericaonce again another really rare arcade game, and I never knew what features the card system had thank you very much for showing it to us 🙂👍
Always happy to show them off. I’ll have some exceedingly rare real hardware coming up soonish too!
@@VideoGameEsoterica nice really looking forward to it 😊 👍
Should be fun!
I played this on the Cycraft. It threw you around very jerkily so I didn't feel like I'd a good time. It just made me wish they'd FZero AC on that cabinet.
Yeah I cant imagine getting knocked around that much being a good time
I think whatever vehicle you are in high speed collisions kinda suck 😂
Physics aren’t nice sometimes lol
Ah a kart racer, here we go.
It’s a fun one for sure
Someone NEEDS to do a Mario kart mod for this game!
Haha that would be interesting to see
Correction: it is not foolish to buy this arcade board to enjoy this game. It is a tick box on life achievements 🎉
Haha everyone can get whatever they want if it makes them happy
Chuckecheeses
I believe he prefers Charles Cheese
In portugal, it is not big .
Seems like a European thing
European thing as in “Germany and like countries”
