I don't know why Nikon discontinued the S9900 series. I really liked the fold out screen. They should bring it back
It would've been a smart idea to have that with this camera too. I'm doing a video right now called (Nikon Coolpix A1000 Accessories You Should Get) that will solve that issue a bit.
I like the fold out screen too.
Protects the camera screen in transport and just walking around strapped over your shoulder.
With a viewfinder now it just makes more sense.

Very informative video. After watching ( & despite its few niggles) I think its worth going for. I enjoyed the video clips -very detailed and how simple footage can be very entertaining and relaxing to watch. - a lesson here for when you want to shoot some video , and your thinking of what to take ? - simple footage I felt had the greater impact - as your sample video demostrates.. ( to me anyway)

Great review. I had an S9900 which was superb, and just got the A1000. So far...... The lens rattles so it feels cheaper. Also.... You can not format a memory card. Arggghhh. Looking forward to trying some of the new features.
It's a downgrade in some things yes. You can format the memory card Watch at 7:10 in the video.
I'm thinking about to get one even I already have a D3500, it's maybe nice to shoot some video and take pictures without taking a lot of gear with me
It's not a bad camera, just don't expect high expectations. I usually use it to review videos as you can see on my channel. The quality of the images it takes is alright.
well , watched a little more, trim the futon down 1/4 inch which will give you the full articulation of the screen.
I have Nikon Coolpix A900. It has 20 MP-sensor. Strange that this new camera, the successor to A900, only has 16 MP-sensor. How come? I think 16 MP is rather little today.
Pär Nordqvist They went backwards with this camera. Even the mic sounds worse than my older Nikon Coolpix S9700.
@@DestructiveBurn Even more strange! I guess compact cameras soon are history. I never see people taking pictures with any kind of camera today. The smart phones seem to be dominating.

There is no shoe for installing a flash or a microphone, there are also no coverters for installing additional macro and light filters, so this is an ordinary soap dish with 4k
You can get light bars to solve the first issue. There is no microphone. It's kinda crummy for a blogging camera
Can't you disable the view finder or turn it to off? I think you can in the settings, so you can only view through the monitor. You don't have to worry about accidentally toggling it on back and fourth.
Unfortunately, you cannot. The viewfinder stays on all the time. Instead, you can disable the monitor screen. Since it's always on it can be quite irritating at times when looking a the monitor and you accidentally cover the viewfinder sensor. It disables the monitor until you move the thing blocking the sensor. I noticed light can also block it and other items.
I really wish there was an option to disable the viewfinder as it's quite pointless to have.
you likely know now but for anyone else reading this, you can turn it off, - menu - settings - evf auto toggle - off. and just use the screen instead

Concerning the viewfinder sensor, isn't there an option to switch that off when you want to use just the flip down panel? My Nikon B700 has that feature.
I showed all the settings. Unfortunately, there's no way to turn it off. Beside the viewfinder is a small button.
That button only turns the LCD screen off to only use the viewfinder. There are a few things Nikon needs to improve in the firmware for an update. But they won't listen to my request.
@@DestructiveBurn Weird that they'd put it (EVF TOGGLE ON/OFF) in the B700 but not in the more expensive and new A1000. I've used the toggle off setting many times especially when doing macros as I use the panel for those and have found the sensor most annoying when I'm trying to maneuver myself and the camera to get the shot.
Anway, good unboxing /review/demonstration of this camera, nice job!
NIce video! Any opinion yet on the quality of photos? I know all super compact cameras like this have the small sensors, but I am curious about the quality of photos this camera can produce, especially compared to the Sony HX99 or Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS70K. Thanks!

When things grow a bit or I find a great photo to take I'll post them there. It's not DLSR grade, but not to bad. These ones were taken from the Auto option. I will, however, do some proper manual shots too, when I can.

@@DestructiveBurn am i expecting too much or do the pictures like phone quality? am using the nikon d5500 and thought to get a second camera so i dont need to change lenses as much as i often need to on tours. thanks a lot for review and uploads! Edit: why cant lightroom open .nrw? also shouldnt it be .nef?
This is a crappy crap camera. The lens has ridiculous lens flare in the center of the image whenever there is a lite area in the frame, which is 90% of the time.

put the shoe in a vice and trim a half inch right off it to allow the screen to fully drop down.

Since viewing your video & my last comment a few days ago I went ahead and got the Nikon A1000 - You might be intrested to know you can TURN OFF the viewfinder auto on in the set up menu . its under EVF auto toggle.. like I knew it was an issue from your demo, but I was kinda prepared to live with it - then it became a bit of a nuisance, so when I looked in set up menu I was able to turn it off
:)... I do notice the long zooms are a bit unstable, and I suppose that's the (economy) nature of the beast. I run them thru the Warp stablizer in P.Pro and that sorts it out.. For the cost of camera E330 I'm very happy with it.. It takes great photos & I LOVE the drop down screen.. It looks great and it's had a few admirers :)
I know you can turn it off. When I made the video, I must've missed it. For the zoom, I recommend a tripod if you are zooming at a distance. A gimble would be great for the handheld part of it.
The drop-down should've been at the top. But easy to go around using a light bar for attachments and to use the tripod.
I'm glad you are enjoying it. Mines has been acting up. Nikon has it again for repairs.
@@DestructiveBurn Tkns for reply. My remark on the zoom (even with tripod) is that it's not a smooth zoom -its hops about a bit. I did notice that in ur own demo (on the long zoom clip) I tried a Panie TZ90 and that has similar. It's not a big issue for me.( I'm aware how inexpensive this cam was) Sorry to hear ur camera is in sick bay, and I hope you get it back in good health soon!

my coolpix s9100 records 720p 60fps in slow motion for *30*seconds. when i replay the video its *60 seconds* long thats great.
Does the a1000 at least record for --- *30 seconds*-----in slow motion
I do most of my recording in slow motion.
Can you tell me how many *seconds* the a1000 can record in slow motion 1080p= , and 720p = , sorry, i didnt understand your reply
Thanks very much for an excellent video ,at the moment I've got a Nikon coolpix S9900 which I got from e-bay it was a £100 and I think that this compact camera is great I've got several DX Nikon DSLRS my best camera is my Nikon D500 however I'm disabled a I'm finding I'm using my coolpix more often .
I'm impressed with the A100 however I'd rather have a flip sideways screen like on theS9900 as I can see the screen on the A100 easily getting scratches on it and if you put a screen protector it won't be touch screen anymore?

Can custom picture profiles be uploaded into camera from a SD card?
I found on other older coolpix cameras they cannot, but on the nikon v series cameras it can.

Not sure why you would. The whole point of the SD Card is to create content on it with the camera. Not put the images back onto it but yeah, you can put the images back onto the SD Card in the Nikon folder and the camera will see them. However, you cannot take random photos and dump it onto the card. The camera will delete them and if you change the name to something like DSCN0466.JPG the camera will see the fie as a red box with an X. You can click it but it says (File contains no image data.)

No it's not about putting images back on camera it's about loading custom settings to the camera called "custom profiles" so you can
Shoot " in camera" with many nostalgic and vintage film simulations. It's a very cool feature and really fun. It's possible on my nikon V3 and I love it. I tried with an older coolpix P340 model and P7800 and it wasnt capable.

Would you recommend getting this camera as a every day camera as my Nikon coolpix B700 is a bit on the big size to carry with daily
It really depends on what you will use it for. It does have a small sensor, so if you are looking for extremely detailed 4k images or videos, you won't get it with this camera.
I use it for my RUclips channel. If you watch any of my videos that are newer than this one, they were recorded with this camera.
It does have a small sensor and that can be bad in low light. Personally, I really don't think it's a true 4K camera. It seems to be a 1080 sensor scaled to 4K.
I have had an issue with mine. It did end up getting fixed. The lens got stuck.

On Nikon website they say it has "Touch to focus".
It will focus on and take an image. It doesn't do a great job of it. Firmware version 1.0 only supports, touch-screen controls for menus and take a picture. Nothing more. There are no options for touch screen in video or ability to change Apature. Apature is all completely Auto "in video". Sorry to burst your bubble but I did request these features to Nikon. The support team handed it over to the tech team. Hopefully, in v1.1 this will be a thing.

Zooming problems. My Nikon Coolpix S9700 had that issue where you try to zoom in or out and it won't work. You keep trying and it finally does. I noticed this A1000 one does it too at times.
What the problem is, it's their horrible software and they won't do anything about it. They stick the same OS on every Camera they make and just tweak it a but for that camera. So in reality, if the OS has bugs, it ends up on all there cameras. Their firmware is outdated and only seems to be concentrated on images only.
If they actually started to fix the firmware OS and add some video options, these cameras would be way better.
Hi there, really enjoyed this video and learned a lot. I do need your advice though in regard to low light photography indoors. My trusty Canon G12 which served me so faithfully for years quit as a result of the articulating screen dying on me. I bought the Nikon Coolpix A1000 and have used it for over 2 years now and have had wonderful results except for pictures indoors. Where the Canon excelled , the results from the Nikon are dismal to say the least and especially where there is any movement such as kids moving. I’m so frustrated because I really like this camera for macro and pictures of the moon or birds etc. I have tried so many times to take shots at parties or of people indoors and they are invariably blurry of out of focus or dark. Could you suggest any tips that might help me as I cannot afford to get another camera at this stage of my life. My photographic skills are mediocre at best but somehow the trusty old Canon G12 produced incredible photos for several years and I can’t seem to master this one for indoor photography. I do so hope that you can help me. Thanks so much in advance.

I have been warned to either be very careful opening the screen or not move it at all due to risk of cutting wire and rendering screen inoperable. What do others think? A fault of a1000 possibly?
Hi, which point and shoot would you recommend in 2021? 30x zoom or more is a must. All the cameras I have researched are 3 to 5 year old models. No new releases in 2019-20. Please suggest. Thanks.
It really depends on what you want. If you're looking for just a basic camera with good zoom and ok but not great quality, this one will do you. I still use it.
5:30 Fortunately that annoying viewfinder default setting can be disabled as follows: Menu >>> Set Up (wrench) >>> EVF Auto Toggle >>> OFF 🤫 Why anyone would ever want to have that feature ON is beyond me 😝
Can you do the back lighting on star trails or the milky way in time lapse or when taking a photo at night?
Backlighting is opening the sensor right up to all light. That option is built into Nightscape + Star trails or all settings in (Multiple exp. Lighten) Although I haven't tried it yet, it would be silly not to open the sensor to all the light it can capture at night.

Two months, and still no update on the repairs?
Sorry man I forgot. I sent it in and they fixed the wobble in the lens. Sadly they never told me a damn thing what they did. At least I think they fixed it? It would've been nice if they gave me some notes on it. I can say they updated the Firmware to v1.1.
