Sponge would be the star of this rom hack, as the plot and story of this game, is that you can't escape fate, no matter how grim the circumstances are. Peach is destined to die, and you are always too late and see it happen.
@jerrymcgrillen1301 it is most definitely a romhack of smb1, its using the mario physics engine, enemies and tile system (with interchanging tiles to achieve the parallax scrolling). its a very inpressive romhack for sure, but claiming it was made from the ground up is not true
I had the luxury of reviewing the romhack graphics in "tile layer pro", the parallax operation is 8 panels that repeat, making it look very fluid (Sorry if my English is a bit bad)
@@rockymitsu nah you explained it good, but to make it clear, the parallax is done by modifying the tile on the fly with another one that is in a different position. Now im wondering if i did explain it well too.
Seeing actual parallax in an NES game (and not line scrolling parallax many games used) is so mind blowing. The only other game I know did that sort of thing was Battletoads. [EDIT] Also City Connection, but it took some more sacrifices to pull it off...
@@EthanTypically I don't hear any of the base YM2413 patches being played at all. Also, snares in Lagrange Point weren't actually being played by the DPCM channel at all, excluding the battle theme. They were just two square channels rapidly changing duty cycles [EDIT] I still stand by not hearing base patches, but that's just that, BASE patches. It could be possible it's using a different set of patches, or if the Master System's YM2413 had its capability shared with it, the ability to use a custom patch for one of the sound channels
I can see every level is two screens wide, so the entire area is loaded into memory at once, which should be simple since the memory buffer can store two screens of data. That would allow for left-scrolling as well as all enemy states being remembered off screen, though I don't know if there's some additional wizardry required to pull it off.
Based W7N. This romhacker also made the excellent Celeste Mario's Zap and Dash, and his upcoming masterpiece, Mario Gaiden, is going to blow the pants off of everyone!!!
The death there is actually because if you were to play through the level without dying and complete it as fast as possible, the game would think you cheated. This happens if you complete the level within 200 seconds. However, the game saves your progress at certain points, and will set the timer based on that progress. In short, the intentional death is to restart the level at a timer value that prevents the cheated ending.
@@DJIncendrationI ended up reading the author notes and that seems to be the case. Why the creator put an anti-cheat *in a single-player ROMhack* is beyond me.

Honestly I would play this but I'm not a fan of hacks that require you to use frame perfect glitches, like the wall jump. This could have been a fantastic hack if it wasnt for these. How unfortunate
Pretty sure it doesn't require you to use the wall jump at all. In fact the hack creator *discourages* its use by patching most methods of it. This hack is still bootycheeks to play casually without savestates though

This is one of those runs that makes you wonder how much is intended, and how much is TAS only.
What a cool rom hack and what a great exhibition via TAS! Great job!
Thats not just a hack I guess. But production from scratch.
@@jerrymcgrillen1301No? It's definitley a hack for SMB1, you can find the patch file for it very easily.

Crazy to see a working parallax in an NES game
Never thought of SMB1 ROM Hack using FM Synth (Thanks to VRC7 existence)
This is the peak-
There's quite a few licensed games that does that.
I think the fact it's ostensibly in the SMB engine is the more impressive thing.

This looks like one of those subliminal Mario games I’d play in a lucid dream
This is a fantastic TAS
1:19 that goes hard
Hands down one of the coolest NES creations. Need more games like this
This ROM hack so damn good. Does this rom had expansion chip to achieve this masterpiece?
It uses the Konami VRC7 for the music
@@letcreate123 so it explains why i can hear FM Channel Playing- VRC7.
This hack was made as a TAS demo, nothing else.
There is some canon event going on with Peach
seeing SMB1 have this much going on with its visuals/sound feels heretical
Does this rom had VRC7 Chip embedded?? I can hear the FM Synth because DPCM was assigned for Snares and Kick while FM Synth is being played

I do hear myself 💀💀💀

So Mario needs to go to β levels…
I like that the castle theme are Ninja Gaiden 3-1
Ninja gaiden3 has the best soundtracks 😌
A Super Mario Bros. hack where the screen ACTUALLY scrolls to the left?

This is basically mario.exe but you need to be a tasbot to see the horrible end.
wow this rom hack is very depth
8 bit Gate of Steiner is so good. Love me some Steins Gate.
69.9k final score, nice
Poor Peach 😢

I like the 8-bit rendition of Gate of Steiner.
Love the use of DPCM for the level title cards
the video is god 👍 quality content
Why the death at 4:07?
I assume is to despawn any hitblocks that disallow walljumping

Other Super Mario Bros Lost Leves version hackrom.
Good selection of tracks for the OST. Shame the bosses are over so soon, don't have enough time to get my Gaiden groove goin'

you can make more Mario bros videos it's very interesting
walljump is real!?
My man took the L mid screen transition. What happened?
Have someone beat this game in real time?
yes, kosmic
