Great review. It's unfortunate that every listing at every store has these either backordered or out of stock. EE has been saying "RESTOCKING SOON" for months now. Alternatively, ebay has them, only scalped up to four times the price! Same with the Flight Types.
this was my first gunpla ever and I had a really good time with it. the simplicity and price were both attractive to me as a beginner. the roller blades are easily the most attractive feature to this kit. can't wait to build some more gunpla now.
I would say it's a evolution of the Grunt "Gunpla Evolution Project". Other than the the Daughteress and the Death Army, bandai is going for a similar universal joint system for the Grunts. [Leo, Magnac, and Wingdam as an examples]
@@UVAmatsuo I would argue that the 30mm kits are another application of the universal joint system and streamlined runner layout from the Gunpla Evolution Project, but aren't necessarily an evolutionary of those features. I say the 30 mm kits are an evolution of the IBO line and options sets because they actually take the customization gimmick through interchangeable armor parts to a higher level than the predecessor. The universal joint system is more or less the exact same between the Gunpla Evolution kits and the 30 mm kits. The streamline layout of the runners from the Gunpla Evolution grunt kits also aren't really improved in the 30 mm kits, just transfered over.
The whole concept of this line are pretty much like Kotobukiya FA, which they started the line with a completely new IP and original story behind every machine. Originally 30mm kits don't have a back story but lately they started to add some story on the manual. 30mm line is like Kanetake Ebikawa takes on Takayuki Yanase's FA concept.
I think this kit has a lot of potential but out of the box I think the Portanova ST has more play value. It just feels like the Space types parts offer more versatility while this is really just a case of how you do want to plug in the treads. So I'm planning to buy this guy after my PST is done but I feel like this is going to be the bigger project just to make it stand out more.
It has a more military -centered style than others in this line, the tank threads and the remote droid could be useful for other conversions, also for different scales.
This along with the Flight Type are my first choice for when I finally spring for a 30mm kit. Definitely getting the Close Combat armor too mostly to just plug those holes in the chest.
Thanks for the reviews of these. I've been meaning to pick these up for a while. I did pre-order a bunch from another online retailer, but they fumbled my order and I just never went back around to this line. Now that you have these videos up, it piqued my interest in them again. I ordered 3 kits just now, the one you a featuring, the standard Alto, and RABIOT Orange. My son is getting into he hobby a little bit and these look like great kits for he and I to work on together. I'd also like to try out the water type and the space as well as the flight.
11:45 Hey, now that I think about it, with two of these kits (or maybe just one of these and the EAV Tank) you could get yourself a D-50C Loto from Gundam Unicorn!
I never even noticed that there were story details on the box. but after reading that my only takeaway is that the aliens piloting the Portanova's are from Planet Bryon. Bryon, Bryan, Brian. Planet Brian.
15:29 I was onboard with this version ever since it was announced, so yeah! Definitely a good starter kit to get people into this line. The marine Porta Nova is cool too but really needs the Hi-Gogg or Zea Zulu's color scheme. But that's why we paint are kits isn't it? lol
Now that we have seen them do a recolor of the Alto Flight type, it's just a matter of time. Though I think they would stick to one of the colors they have already done.
Amatsuo you’re right. But like Zach usually says, if you’re gonna paint it doesn’t really matter what color plastic you get out of box. But it would be cool to see different color releases.
They are really cool especially the vehicles, it's just I'm not a fan of "Hand Size" scale. Koto is also making a few Frame Arm Girls in the same size as Hex Gear.
I bought 2 of the Marine Portanova so I could have the fuel tanks on both the Arms and Legs. Though I have seen people make really cool Spider Tanks with two of them.
funny enough long before the existence of 30 Minutes Missions the Frame Arms Gourai was compared to Gundam Unicorn's Loto in design, well sans the transforming gimmick.
The similarities are merely inspired. Not necessarily an “answer” to anything. Frame arms, hexagear, whatever it is inspired by doesn’t really matter. Personally I even see some code Geass knightmare inspiration in some of these (but I’m not hearing that mentioned much)
I think people just see 30mm as "oh they share a similar inner frame like Frame Arm kits" but the reality is Kotobukiya doesn't really do Customization outside of what can be held in the hands. They are only somewhat modular because they dont have the same production structure as Bandai.
I'm glad I canceled my preorder on this kit... the production photos made it look so amazing to me but seeing it here... really killed my love for it. I guess because I've built so many Frame Arms kits recently that this looks like a third party bootleg to me. Trying so hard to look Frame Arms style but not that great mecha-ness Frame Arms kits have. I do love this line for what they are but this kit just seems too much like a copy instead of something unique especially to me, compared to the white space type that was reviewed recently. That's my favorite in the line so far.
"you just kind of put it together." -ZakuAurelius
this is the quote you're going to be most well known for.
Lol exactly
I mean, he's not wrong
the tank turret from the Volpa Nova would look great on the mini tank backpack support vehicle
Great review. It's unfortunate that every listing at every store has these either backordered or out of stock. EE has been saying "RESTOCKING SOON" for months now. Alternatively, ebay has them, only scalped up to four times the price! Same with the Flight Types.
This one and the space type portanova is currently my fav in the line.
this was my first gunpla ever and I had a really good time with it. the simplicity and price were both attractive to me as a beginner. the roller blades are easily the most attractive feature to this kit. can't wait to build some more gunpla now.
I would argue the 30mm lines is more of an evolution of the IBO line and the options sets.
You mean Gundam Build Fighters.
Ryan Walters indeed.
@@MakGohae well IBO hat the whole G frame system and was fully mixable strait out of box. and im pretty sure thats what he means.
I would say it's a evolution of the Grunt "Gunpla Evolution Project". Other than the the Daughteress and the Death Army, bandai is going for a similar universal joint system for the Grunts.

And the olive drab version is coming. It's color suits more for general military aesthetics. And there's tank option parts coming too.

I want to make this in to just a tank
You may need the Exa Vehicle Tank Ver. that coming out this July.
Portanova green is my favorite one.

Porta Nova🔥space type is my favorite and the water one looks cool may get
187 great marking choice!! This might just be my favorite in this line, though I would change the color

great value gourai. i just ordered one.

loving those tank parts would love to see the customs that use those
I just looked up Hexa Gear, and those kits look pretty cool!
They are really cool especially the vehicles, it's just I'm not a fan of "Hand Size" scale.

I don't like alto normal suit. But this one i think will be the first my 30mm collection. Thanks for the review!! 😍

Though I have seen people make really cool Spider Tanks with two of them.
Since the handed stock on the Alto's rifle is my biggest beef with the kit, it's actually pretty perfect that it doesn't have one!
funny enough long before the existence of 30 Minutes Missions the Frame Arms Gourai was compared to Gundam Unicorn's Loto in design, well sans the transforming gimmick.
Kitbash this with a Diver Nami to get a "Bandai" Frame Arms Girl. Might come in handy in competitions where it's only Bandai parts allowed.
Probably the first one I like the look of.
Does this kit comes with the previous normal alto as spare parts?
I think what it really reminds me of is the Igel Unit Heavyarms
I am thinking if i should buy this kit?
If you like the design go for it. This is IMO one of the best kits in the line next to the quadruped Space Portanova which requires 2 sets.
that tank threads backpack make it look a bit like Voltes V.
nice desert look but still gonna get the space tyme.. nice unit tho.. 🥰🥰
Space type is awsome but be a bit careful with the leg pieces when building they can loosen up very easy
Get line on it's own, but would great parts for customizing gunpla
to me, it feels to Gundam 08th MS so I would rather get one more of these kits
Now that's a bulky boi
A shame they dont give it parts to make it into a full transformable tank
It only comes in that one color right
I'm sure there'll be more
The Flight Alto comes in Navy or Orange now, so maybe they will redo this kit in Dark Gray or Green.
The similarities are merely inspired. Not necessarily an “answer” to anything. Frame arms, hexagear, whatever it is inspired by doesn’t really matter. Personally I even see some code Geass knightmare inspiration in some of these (but I’m not hearing that mentioned much)
Eyyy it's miro, didn't think I would see you here

They are only somewhat modular because they dont have the same production structure as Bandai.
it really is a Gourai
Jesus, wow. That IS just the Gourai. Anyone know the mecha designer for this kit/line?
the square royroy is only for the Alto
first?
I'm glad I canceled my preorder on this kit... the production photos made it look so amazing to me but seeing it here... really killed my love for it.
