- If you’re in the UK and hold an Indian passport, you may need to apply to renew your passport because it is expire or going to expire, you’ve run out of pages, it has been misplaced, or you’ve had a name change. The good news is that it is possible to renew your Indian passport while in the UK. Hi , I Took appointment , had all the papers but my name was not in there list . They told rebook another appointment, no specific resin given . Any idea why ?
This is weird. Did you get a copy of your appointment? If your appointment is confirmed you will get an appointment letter.
Just FYI, Submitted the passport application at Manchester for minor with a few things to highlight... on page 1 of the application form signature of the minor was required (age just above 5 years). Had to hold kids hand and sign the name. On page 3 i could sign on behalf. Also annexure and declaration i had to sign on behalf. Seems each VFS works differently surprisingly. Anyways thanks for all the help during the application process.
Sandy I asked my 6 years old to write her name on the form and she did it. I think I mentioned the same to you in the previous video as well. Everything else was to be signed by parents..

Yes you can apply for tatkal if your address is same as old passport but best is to select normal process at first and then ask vfs to change it to tatkal.
It takes ~2-4 weeks to get it in tatkal

I have submitted the passport renewal application to VFS and they informed me that "my application need correction and have paid £10 for application recreation"
They have created the application in their login and didn't shared the application copy.
On receiving the passport, In address section - post office name was misprinted.
I have contacted the VFS center about the issue and given the required detail but they are not responding back. last email from them says "Please note that the passport has been printed by the competent authorities as per your previous records."
Please suggest if you have any thought process on this?
Hi Kumar, The coreecetion process is leangthy and will cost you money. I will leave it as such for now. It will not create any problems to you in UK.

Sir you mentioned in your video that you contacted the consulate to know about the application. Can you share how were you able to talk to them. I tried contacting IHC Birmingham's public service unit contact number but all it give the robotics response repeatedly. How can I talk to somebody to know what is it actually happening with my application.

Hello, Greetings from Belfast. Will the police verification take place before or after the passport is issued if there is no change in the address printed on the previous passport?
For No change in address police verification may or may not take place.if it happens it will be before passport is issued
Some updates, to apply for tatkal now we dont have to write any letter to HCI or Embassy. You can just follow the normal procedure in website by selecting tatkal instead of ordinary passport. Only one 2x2 photo is required for the whole application. For tatkal, you should show them 2 Indian ID cards say aadhar, DL, Electoral Card, Pancard etc.

@@parveez90 No its not required for Tatkal also. If you come under London High Commission, then the best VFS office you can go is Cardiff. Very friendly staff and they dont eat your money.

Hi Pri, now PPF is not needed. And application needs to be signed by minor as they can sign now. All other documents can be signed by parent.
I made word documents, filled in the details, took print and then signed.

It is called as Personal Particular form and it Is.not needed now

Hi Do we have to carry the proof of home address in India? Do they accept 10th marks cards as address proof? Because my Adhar has a different address than the one already on the passport which is due expiry. Thanks for letting me know.
Ypu don't have to carry original but you will have to provide an address proof in India . 10th marksheet is not accepted as address proof. It can be adhaar card , phone bill , electricity bill , water bill , bank statement etc.
BTW you can update your adhaar card address online

Cancellation is to be done via email to passport.london@mea.gov.in
You can book a slot to new location and then drop and email for cancellation. If Your old form have right information about your counselor jurisdiction then you do not have to fill a new form.

No you don't have to do anything. Just keep an eye for police verification email (in your spam As well). Currently it is taking 12 weeks for passport renewal

You will need
A copy of your passport (in fee cases they have asked for copy of the full passport ,if you don't have that then first and last 2 pages

My visa is expired on last year 2022 December but before that I have applied for FLR (HRO), which the application is still pending in the home office. Since you have applied for FLR (HRO), Indian embassies or vfs will not do anything. The best you can do is to drop an email to passport.london@mea.gov.in and ask For their assistance

Children between the ages of 15 and 18 have the option to apply for a minor passport valid until he/she attains the 18 years of age or full validity passport of 10 years. Different fees are applicable for different validity.
You can go to the VFS office and apply on his behalf. He need to sign all the forms and application.

For tatkal it is taking 5-10 working days currently. Next update should be print initiated and then passport handed over to OSP

Yes you can use their address proof. Also you can update your adhaar card address online and use that.
For UK address you can use bank statement / DL/ Utility bill / council tax
Thank you for letting me know. I was searching online for the list of acceptable documents for address proof but all I was able to find was that they require utilities or tenancy as address. And for me the issue is both India and UK I don't have these as I'm living with someone else and there's no chance that I can include my name in any of the bills or contract.
I am currently working on trying to update the address on the adhar card but was just looking for an online source which mentioned that adhaar is acceptable. And the bank statement which I intend to use is just the one which I can generate myself from the banking app.. It should show my address and my name

For UK best is to get Bank Statement you can download one from your app and it should be fine.

This will work if your number link to adhaar card is working.
I would suggest that you try after 11 pm India time and you would be able to login
Hi, I recently submitted my passport application on my parent’s address as well and gave their Aadhar as my address proof in India. The only document they required from me was a notarised No objection certificate from my Father and his Aadhar (Self Attested and notarised). I wanted to change my address on the Aadhar as well but I wouldn’t be able to do it in time. Just sharing the experience in case it helps.

Your son need not to be present At VFS at time of appointment. You can submit it on his behalf. But your son will to write his name (sign) on the application form and you can sign all other documents.
VFS may or may not have photo facility so best is to get his pics clicked before going to VFS and keep it handy. Pic should be of 2*2 inches

You can apply for passport after 3 years of expiry without need of having any explanation. You will be fine, Go for it

You can simply write a letter saying you missed it because of oversight. This is just vfs requirement

You can change adhaar address online as well. If your parents/relatives living at same place and can go to police station for verification (if needed) you can use your old address

Change of appearance affidavit should be certified by notary public. certifying that the the new photo to be incorporated in the passport is of the applicant.
You can search for a public notary in your area. Charges varies from location to location and can be in range of 50-120£
Not at all bhai, change of appearance form is signed by VFS only.. no need of notary and all.. they ll click a new photo of you for 9 pounds and give you appearance form to fill then and there only...just go directly to vFS, don't go anywhere else for anything
Shiv HCI London website says that It should be notarized by a notary. Though Vfs do many things that are not mentioned on the website

If Indian address is same it should not trigger police verification. But it still is taking 6-8 weeks

You can use whatever you want. You just need to have address proof of that. Police verification is a must and it will happen at the address that you will mention.
Personally I would suggest that you use same address as yours. Using your passport and some other address proof

For any international travel Passport Must by valid for minimum 6 months, so you can not travel on this passport.
If you are planning to get it renew in India, I would suggest that you book the appointment dates from here in tatkal option and it should be within two days of your arrival in India and get it done. Also talk to someone who has got their passport renewed recently to understand the timelines..

You can travel back to India, that will not be a problem.

How did you follow up with the embassy (Birmingham)? My application is in process for 4 weeks and no police verification email yet. Using the call number, they just sent me a Whatsapp number and not telling the status of my application.

Usually, a UK address is not permitted on the Indian passport. However, in exceptional circumstances only, when the applicant proves that he/she does not have a permanent address in India and he/ she has Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in UK, an applicant may be permitted to reflect his/her UK address in his/her Indian passport. An affidavit from the applicant about his/ her not having a permanent address in India, must be attached with the application.
You have to add India address for verification and UK address for passport delivery

At current time it is taking 12 - 16 weeks to get your passport. You can login to your passport gov account and track it from there

I have some concerns as I am in the UK and my passport is going to expire in 2025 and I am going to extend my visa in 2024. So my concern is passport number is going to same as previous passport number? And another is my Indian address changed now so I have to mention new Indian address or old address is okay? As I am going to renew passport in the UK.
And is there any problem if I renew my passport before my visa extension?

You will have to add your new address as police verification will take place. You will need some proof for your new address.

You need to get an appointment ASAP and if your address is same as old passport request vfs to apply via tatkal

Child and parent adhaar card is the best, if that's not available you can use utility bills.
There is no separate form for it.
You can use your credentials to create an account for kids and fill the form. If you are filling both the form together you can add two application (it worked for me when I applied)

You can fill it by hand as well.

It is taking 12 +weeks now to get the passport. I would suggest that you drop an email to passport.london@mea.gov.in and ask the status.
For emergency travel to India, you Nedd to drop and email to inf.birmingham@mea.gov.in or inf.london@mea.gov.in and ask for an immediate appointment at consulate and get the temp travel permit
Sharing my passport renewal timelines:
Application mode: Tatkaal (No change in Address, passport due to expire in 6 months)
Application center - VFS Belfast
20-Mar (Wed) - Appointment date
22-Mar (Fri) - “Passport has been printed” status
23-Mar(Sat) - Mail for Police Verification, also phone call from police station (Guwahati, Assam), sent my Brother in law to the police station same day, Passport and Aadhaar copy requested and submitted.
26-Mar - “Passport has been handed over by the embassy/consulate to the osp executive for further dispatch to the applicant” status
27-Mar - Received the new and old passports sent via Royal Mail.
On the appointment date, submit all the documents as mentioned in the VFS checklist, along with 2 Indian IDs for Tatkaal applicants. You can also submit a self-addressed Royal Mail stamped special delivery envelope for receiving the passport. This is optional and you can go with DX Delivery which is dthe efault courier of VFS.
Total cost for Tatkaal came to around £172.

You will need any document (govt document) which has your surname on it. If you don't have anything you may have to publish it in newspaper and get it done here (best is to talk to a lawyer). Your old passport will.be returned to you and you can use the same for your travel to US/Canada

In case of minor, you need to get minors sign on the applicantion (if they can write) and anyone of you can sign the documents. When I applied for my daughter, me and my wife we both signed/attested other documents.

One of our subscriber suggested that Page 1 must be signed by kid and page 3 can be signed by parent. My daugther was 6 and she signed both the pages.
