Hey Racer X, Thank you! This really is a terrific video. I have a 1974 Nova with a 4 speed saginaw transmission. The shifter is stiff, the throws are short and it AND I struggle to shift from second to third, actually all the gears.... Great visuals and explanations! I hope it's the linkage and not a bigger transmission issue.??

Oh man, thank you! I don't know much about the Saginaw's, but hopefully it is a similar fix! Good luck!

Great video! I'm about to swap an M20 into my 73 Nova with the hurst competition shifter. I hope the actual shift lever curves a little further back so I don't have to reach forward to shift.

I've been actually debating changing the lever, its a bit hard for me to reach, i'd like it back more myself. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@RacerXGarage Hurst makes a better handle that sits two inches higher, and two inches further back part number 538-8022. I'm going to buy that one, and if it isn't perfect I'll take the torch to it until it is!

Great Nova, you mentioned as you were driving that it stayed in first gear. I have an M21 and it wants to pop out of first. Is that due to my stops not being adjusted properly. I know very little about transmissions. Great video, look forward to seeing more.

Mine had to do with my shifter linkages not being aligned correctly. If the stops are not adjusted right, in theory that "could" limit getting into gear. But overall I just needed to take my time and get everything lined up. Hope you get it figured out!

Yep, you were right on. I went back under, took it all off and redid it. On to the electrical. More fun. Thanks.

I think they're somewhat similar sized for a 65 Chevelle, either way they're both bigger than most compact cars out now lol

Definitely think you need a longer stick, looks like your reaching a mile for the gears lol

yeah I would like to find one that is angled back more, it is a little bit of a reach for my short arms
