Hi Kat! The 80s really were the golden age of practical effects in movies. This was a remake of a 1958 movie with Vincent Price (!) There was a sequel to this movie starring Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga, Stoltz as Brundlefly's son who continues his work to find a cure for his mutations. There is a reveal of the fate of Stoltz's beloved dog (which got teleported partially inside out, but survived) that was genuinely horrifying.
I watched the sequel when it came out, and I refuse to watch it ever again because of that scene. I don't remember what it actually looked like, but it horrified me to the point that I don't care to ever find out again.
But what's funny is the part where he pets the security dog and ends his whole career, that poor thing for hella quiet when that freaky ass puppet was petting him
Nobody does body horror quite like Cronenberg 🤢 Scanners, Crash 1996, and Videodrome are all prime examples of his craft. For some non-body horror Cronenberg - A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, and The Dead Zone (a Steven King adaptation 😉).
This movie has some of the best effects along with the Thing and An American Werewolf in London. Also the doctor holding the larva is the director David Cronenberg. You should do a reaction to the original movies from the 50s of The Fly and The Thing From Another World just to compare the 80s version.

1986’s The Fly is one of the best remakes in cinematic history. The vibe and style actually feels a lot like a golden age horror film, but it contains modern themes and effects. It’s truly a masterpiece of the genre.
"The fly 2" is also very good. Not as clever and not quite the same finesse, but still a highly riveting horror movie with some exemplarily gory effects. Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga play the main characters, and unlike this movie there actually are some true villains in the sequel. Oh yeah - and John Getz reprises his role as "toxic ex" Stathis Borans.
The one drawback in The Fly 2, is the horrible acting of Eric Stoltz. I can take the acid vomit and melting appendages, but his acting made me want to hurl....with malice.... It is still not bad for a sequel, but only if you can stomach Eric's acting.
@@NateAZ Ah, not an Eric fan? Yes, I can see why he wouldn't be to everybody's liking ... At the very least, you don't have to remember him as Marty McFly 😀
The best horror movie...When I first watched this I was a 9yr old kid. I was so glad it was still daytime outside when coming out of the movie theater.
Hey there Kat! Really fun video for a classic tragic horror story. Well as this film dances across two genres, sci-fi and horror, I want to highly recommend a crime thriller that dances on the line of horror. Thus it’d make for a great video for your channel! “Cape Fear” (1991) This is a very strong and powerful film. If you understand what I’m saying. With some very strong and powerful performances.
If you appreciate practical special effects then you really should watch "The Return of The Living Dead" from 1985. A masterpiece of well done practical special effects.
Some hypothesize that if you teleport, you are destroyed from the home destination and then recreated in the target destination. So the original you is destroyed and a new you is created. The most puzzling aspect is the computer not only choosing to combine the two but turning the fly component into a retro-virus, allowing it to rewrite his DNA.
My understanding was that they were spliced but for some reason the effects of the splicing took time. Not that the fly dna was turned into a retrovirus. Granted I get why you say that because that's exactly how a retrovirus would work and not how splicing would work as far as anyone knows.
I love your "that's the true horror of this film" lines ... but you missed it here. The true horror of teleportation is the question you asked - is it sending the subject somewhere or killing it in one place and making an exact copy that doesn't know it's a copy somewhere else. How many times has Kirk been murdered by Scotty? ... making Star Trek into a work of existential nightmare. 😂
Hi Kat!🙂The effects here were a bit more impressive than the 50s films of the same name.😉A long time ago in a place far far away James Gunn made his first film. It was called "Slither" (2006) and was a body horror film like this. You should definitely check it out Kat. It has an 80s tribute feel to it. You'll recognize some familiar faces, too. Great reactions to the 80s Fly reboot film, Kat!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This and the sequel used to freak me out SO bad. It was only recently from watching another reactor on youtube that I got over my fear of this movie and can't wait for someone to react to the sequel
This is THE most disgusting movie I’ve ever seen. Kinda why I like it. Some suggestions for future reaction videos: Prom Night, Terror Train, Curtains, Alice Sweet Alice, Motel Hell.
always makes me cry at the end , i can't even explain it and in the sequel even though its being overall not great, i'm sobbing, it is what it is what can i say....
I have 2 requirements when it comes to my 80's era sci-fi/supernatural horror film's. 1) Will there be puppets in this film? 2) Are those puppets going to be wet? I'm talking spritzed with a glossy sheen, coated with shiny goo. I want the cast and crew to have been uncomfortable due to the humidity on set, wet puppets. Fortunately, The Fly has some of the wettest puppets ever committed to cinema, just look at those effects. I still get sick to my stomach all these years later, whenever Jeff Goldblum's wett prosthetics start oozing off, and I can't eat anything for a solid hour after the acid vomiting on the creepy stalker ex's (who, also turned out to be the protagonist of the film which is hilarious to me) hand and ankle.
Ok, 'wet puppets' is a phrase that somehow I've only recently been introduced to and that was through the channel Scaredy Cats. Mil-Dread loves the wet puppets.
Brundle-Fly: "Life will find a way." *Transforms into final horrifying form* 07:15. Kat: That's SO CRUEL. Wait until she sees The Fly 2's dog scene. Ironically, that monkey scene actually revealed an interesting aspect of the tele-pod technology - it's not a 100% teleportation technology, but rather an "mirror effect", like seeing 2 images of the same person standing side by side looking at each other. The explaining of "fixing the problem", however, made no sense, because he would have needed to RADICALLY redesign the teleportation system to take that into account. An interesting side application of the tele-pod technology (with some modifications) would have been to create quantum doubles. 09:42. Yup. It's been hypothesized that genuine teleportation isn't so much the "moving" of people from location to location, but the breaking DOWN/destruction of a person's bodily integrity (transmitter platform) and reassembling/making an exact copy down to the quantum level of the person at another location (receiver platform). There has, however, been a question about a person's soul, and where that would go during this destruction/creation process, since you are essentially "destroying" the original body, and making a quantum copy of the original, like an organic photocopy. (it's incidentally the same argument made for humans transferring their "consciousness" into robot bodies or cloning themselves - all of those are "copies", except when you PHYSICALLY transfer the brain of the original body into either a robot body or clone body, but then it's an ALTERED version of the original, in various ways, depending on the story being told). 20:35. You ain't seen NOTHING yet. :P (if you want to know what is happening to the character, read up on flies sometimes. Some of what they are showing is DIRECTLY tied to the biology of a fly - 23:48) 22:14. You are one of the few people who has said that. The fusion means that there is no way to "split" the different DNA's apart again. His doom was pretty much sealed the MOMENT the teleportation system activated with him in it along with the fly (the first time), the movie only reveals that fact much later on in a non-verbal way. Another side effect of the tele-pod technology also seems to be some kind of "addiction" (but that could either be Brundle's own psychological issues prior to being teleported OR the mixed DNA creating all kinds of side effects like changing brain chemistry leading to all kinds of weird and aggressive behaviors unlike his normal personality). Also, continued teleportations seems to have an potentially acceleration effect on his mutation - but it is unclear whether it's his HUMAN DNA that is mutating, the fly DNA that is mutating, or the fusion effect becoming quicker. 24:25. That's actually a clue to what is going to happen in the second Fly movie (26:13). Also, the infection reference is also funny, because it kinda highlights another horror movie franchise in totally unrelated way, namely the MIMIC franchise. 28:02. As a side note, you will note that the more deranged Bundle-Fly gets, the more of a mess his lab becomes, almost as a metaphor for his deteriorating mental and physical condition. 32:14. And so, dear reader, another uber-horror fan was born. :P 37:44. Of the most horrifying things in this movie, that throughout the ENTIRE movie, there was a still a person in that body, even when his/its body was completely transformed. That part there at the end, was him/it still knowing what the right thing was, even when he/it had 2 conflicting parts to his mind and personality at that moment, and you could see him struggling with his old nerdy, somewhat anti-social and shy self and new abusive, aggressive, toxic selves in the ENTIRE movie. He knew in that moment that there was no going back to his old self (even abandoning his new fusion idea because his machine was trashed) and resigned himself to being terminated because just like there was no going back to being a human, there was no way for him to fix what he did to the love of his life. He knew he failed not only at creating a revolutionary technology (that would now be shut down due to its horrific applications), but he also failed to do right by her, both as a lover and a good example of a future father (seen in The Fly 2).
I had a minor acid burn when I was a teenager at my first job and the toxic ex guy did such a good job portraying going into shock from that kind of injury.
This movie is so good that you get a very emotional ending between Geena Davis and an animatronic. I still feel that she's acting with Jeff Goldblum in that final scene.
Everything about this movie is truly awesome. Perfect writing, directing, acting, cinematography, practical special effects, sound editing, and original music. In case no one else mentioned this yet, they did make a sequel to this, simply called “The Fly 2,” which follows up with the birth of the baby. While some people have criticized the sequel for one reason or another, I personally think it’s a perfect sequel (just as fucked up as Part 1, as it should be), and I strongly recommend checking it out.
The romance element really elevates the film and the chemistry between both actors is strong because in this period in time Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis where husband and wife in real life.
Hello, Kat Yes, the information of every molecule in the body is scanned and read. This unfortunately destroys all those molecules. The INFORMATION is sent to the other telepod and new molecules are assembled into said person. So, yes, the person is essentially a new creation. Love your reacts. Regards from Illinois.

There was a sequel to this movie starring Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga, Stoltz as Brundlefly's son who continues his work to find a cure for his mutations.
Vincent Price was disturbed by this movie. Oh, well.
But what's funny is the part where he pets the security dog and ends his whole career, that poor thing for hella quiet when that freaky ass puppet was petting him
Nobody does body horror quite like Cronenberg 🤢
Scanners, Crash 1996, and Videodrome are all prime examples of his craft.
For some non-body horror Cronenberg - A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, and The Dead Zone (a Steven King adaptation 😉).
I know, straight outta your nightmares with body parts falling off, ewwwughhh.
His son's stuff is awesome too. (Brandon Cronenberg)
Videodrome is a masterpiece
Long live the new Flesh
I love The Dead Zone
Don't forget The Brood.
This movie has some of the best effects along with the Thing and An American Werewolf in London. Also the doctor holding the larva is the director David Cronenberg. You should do a reaction to the original movies from the 50s of The Fly and The Thing From Another World just to compare the 80s version.
She should do 1988's The Blob remake for more great 80's practical effects.
@@okeefe757underrated movie IMO😁👍
HI SOUNDOFMETAL!! 100% agree. You just named two of my favourite effects movies so far. I’d take practical over CGI any day. I get that some things have to be CGI, but there’s an added layer of suspending your disbelief there that you don’t have to have with practical… so interesting! I WILL DEFINITELY watch the originals!! Will be so cool to compare them. THANK YOU so much for your super thanks, and for watching with me AS ALWAYS!!! Kat:D
The Fly makes me sad too, It was actually one of my biggest nightmares as a kid to turn into the Fly and have to suffer the unending horrors of that terribly mangled and distorted body, begging for it all to end
I love how with all of your reactions, you keep saying "Please!" but they never listen to you hahaha. Such fun every time!
"Still no wings!? I feel bad for him, he didn't get the best part...!" hilarious!!!!
Ok, her saying "To the bone! To the bone!" was one of the most simultaneously creepy and hilarious things I've ever heard a reactor say!
So many hilarious lines in this reaction. This is why I’m subbed.
You have such a great personality for this, you should be a comedian or ANYTHING bigger than youtube
I also enjoyed the original Fly movie starring Vincent Price.
That ending terrified me. Help me as the spider goes to eat him. I was little when I saw it. Still creeps me out. 🕷😱
I love that one but in different way.
Cause its more like?a detective movie
Even though Price is in it,
he doesn't play the mutated scientist.
I also love that original, though.
The remake, not so much.
Everyone loves everything Vincent Price has ever been in. Ever. It's a universal law.
22:13 "He'll never shake it!!" LMAO
That was the time of great practical effects. They looked way better than the best CGI today.
Love your reactions and opinions to movies! Thanks!
20k achieved! Congrats, Kat!
If you haven't seen The Terminator, I'd classified it as horror, sci-fi, action. Guaranteed to make you elbow and box thin air ❤
This, by far, is one of those movies that forever imprinted in my brain! The inside out baboon then later his body morphing like peeling his nails off, losing his ear and then showing his new way of eating is disgusting and yet fantastic! One of my fave scifi horror films, the effects and great acting really sell the story!
Sending many hellos and hi waves your way.😊💚
You're so funny😂 I just had a marathon watching your videos❤
Some suggestions: The Blob (1988), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Saw 3.
PLEASE keep making these videos!! ❤
excellent reaction. I think this movie is a great fusion between horror and drama. another classic successfully assisted Kat. Hugs
10/10! This gave me a tear in my eye. Yes Gina D and Jeff G were in a nice little fling during the making of this film so the chemistry + acting chops was just perfection. This is a film I watch about once a year. So great.
You are absolutely the best movie reactor channel on YT. You`re so entertaining Kat. I`m rediscovering all these awesome movies that I haven`t seen in so many years. Your commentary and reactions are spontaneously genuine, and makes you such a natural at this..The scene with Gina sat on the gurney ....when ya said " I hope the fly doesn't come" make me laugh so hard, i was still sniggering at that till the end of the movie. I know it wasn't even supposed to be funny... But It just was.
Thanks kat, for doing all these great movies.. Loving every one of them.
I'm so glad to see that your membership is growing ! I recommend your show to all my friends. It really puts a smile on my face. Thanks Kat.
Loved your reaction, Kat!!!
Your reactions are priceless!!!
I like the editing and graphics.
I also love that you’re the kind of person who takes bugs outside; I take reptiles outside, but bugs inside gotta die.
I live in Florida, so….
❤❤❤
Congrats on surpassing 20,000 subscribers, Kat! I would like very much to see you achieve that many Patreon subscribers.
JPWCPA!!! Aahh. Thank you so SO MUCH. 20,000!!! I am so BLOWN AWAY. THANK YOU for your super thanks, and also for your kind words!! And for being here with me for as long as you have been. I APPRECIATE YOU!!! See you next month in the livestream (if you can make it)!!!!Kat:D
This is the ONE movie that legit makes me sick to my stomach. You're impressing me more and more each week, Kat, lol.
I legitimately almost barfed when I saw this movie for the first time
The effects in this movie are unbelievable
Love your reactions!!! You turned one of my favorite classic in to a comedy. Yes this is a favorite. I got that strange craving for a donut.
Took a first date to this, she literally got sick during the fingernail scene, no second date. Thanks a lot Goldblum
As I always suspected. This film is the perfect litmus test for finding the right woman.
And don't worry. Your date probably doesn't like Rush either.
@@toddhill7483 you're probably right. Double kiss of death!
Nailing it as always Kat.
Practical effects are the best effects.
My recommendation would be
The Mist (2007)
I grew up with this movie and i can watch it over and over again. Everytime i see a fly, i say hey, It's Jeff Goldblum. 😂😂😂
So happy to see you react to this great horror remake. One of the best remakes ever.
When you said "That's so gross" the first time, my thought was "you ain't seen nothing yet."
Great reaction Kat. If you want some 80s schlock, may I recommend Attack of the Killer Tomatoes? I don't want to spoil it for you, but it is a little change of pace.
The tele-pod turned into a bug-zapper..... Kat, I don't reccomend trying to eat your food like the "Fly" did 😊LOL... This was as fun as I thought it would be
You should watch _Psycho_ (1960) one of these days. It's not only one of the best films of all time, but it also shaped the slasher and horror genre.
I remember when this came out (I was around 30) the critics were quite impressed. Funny you kept referring to Oscars. One critic said that if this movie was called "Ghandi", Genna Davis and Jeff Goldblum would both walked off with Oscars. Critics couldn't say enough good things about their acting. There was also a 1958 version also called "The Fly" it isa good film too. Obviously not as intense but with quite an iconic ending. I really enjoyed this reaction. Thanks
Don't drink and teleport! LOL
LOL! Alain that is SAGE WISDOM!!! Although for me there is NO AMOUNT of drinking that would get me into one of those pods. KEEP YOUR NOBEL PRIZE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPER THANKS!! AND FOR WATCHING WITH ME!!! Kat:D
Hello Queen Kat. This one is great. Love you. ❤
I feel like if they programmed the most advanced AI system to generate the perfect reaction video creator, it still wouldn't be able to touch you for all your positive attributes:
Wit: check
Beauty: check
Great channel idea : check
Wonderful sense of humor :check
Priceless and real reactions : check
Keep up the good work, clearly a lot of people enjoy what you do!
This film is great! Jeff and Geena were both absolutely brilliant in it. Also, that IS a fantastic rating! xD Great reaction, I loved it!
Absolutely the best reaction video of all time! I never laughed so hard in my whole life, hysterically funny you are my favorite reacter ever! Love you!!!!!❤😊
1986’s The Fly is one of the best remakes in cinematic history.
I would give Fly 2 a 7/10 rating. Worth a reaction. Best part of the Fly 2 is it cost an arm and a leg to make. Haha Fly humor.
I’m getting…better…
EPIC REACTION: "That's so gross! That is so gross! THAT IS SO GROSS!" Oh, I love you, David Cronenberg.
Love you!!! Your reactions is what I live for!!!❤
The best horror movie...When I first watched this I was a 9yr old kid. I was so glad it was still daytime outside when coming out of the movie theater.
Hey there Kat!
Really fun video for a classic tragic horror story.
Well as this film dances across two genres, sci-fi and horror,
I want to highly recommend a crime thriller that dances on the line of horror.
Thus it’d make for a great video for your channel!
“Cape Fear” (1991)
This is a very strong and powerful film.
If you understand what I’m saying.
With some very strong and powerful performances.
I had the exact same reaction first time I saw the 'finger juice' scene 😂
Whoa. I swear that doll in the corner winked at me.
Great reactions to the 80s Fly reboot film, Kat!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
knew you would love this one, low on jump scares, high on tension and gore. one of my favorite films ever.
This and the sequel used to freak me out SO bad. It was only recently from watching another reactor on youtube that I got over my fear of this movie and can't wait for someone to react to the sequel
Great reaction Kat. I grew up on the original movie of this that came out in 1958. You should put this on your watch.
This is THE most disgusting movie I’ve ever seen. Kinda why I like it.
Some suggestions for future reaction videos: Prom Night, Terror Train, Curtains, Alice Sweet Alice, Motel Hell.
"Oh he looks fine." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kat, your reactions are always so entertaining to watch!
always makes me cry at the end , i can't even explain it and in the sequel even though its being overall not great, i'm sobbing, it is what it is what can i say....
Kat makes the movie better with her reactions
I cry every time he dies lol. Great reaction!!!
@@carn9507 I'd question the sanity and virtue of anyone who DOESN'T love wet puppetry in their horror films
Brundle-Fly: "Life will find a way."
*Transforms into final horrifying form*
Some of what they are showing is DIRECTLY tied to the biology of a fly - 23:48)
One of the best things about this movie, the main hated asshole become the hero. Unique.
I had a minor acid burn when I was a teenager at my first job and the toxic ex guy did such a good job portraying going into shock from that kind of injury.
Awesome reaction again! That's all I can say! I am looking forward to the next Kat-Day!
@15:07 " the Fly-der- man " 😂🤣😅👏👏👍 good suff. I haven't laughed so hard since last week. thanks great content
Gonna say it again. I would love to see you watch ARACHNOPHOBIA!!!!! You are easily the most fun reactor I've come across
Great reaction. Some amazing special affects for an older movie! Agree all that and no wings! haha
"...the Flyderman..." haha. Great work :D
Teleportation is your information 3d printed in living flesh, while the original is destroyed
Love your reactions, love the meet cute horror vibe
The romance element really elevates the film and the chemistry between both actors is strong because in this period in time Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis where husband and wife in real life.
This is probably the most fun I've had watching someone else watch a movie and your comment ary was great
"The Fly-derman". Good one, Kat. LOL
Hello, Kat
Yes, the information of every molecule in the body is scanned and read. This unfortunately destroys all those molecules. The INFORMATION is sent to the other telepod and new molecules are assembled into said person. So, yes, the person is essentially a new creation.
Love your reacts.
Regards from Illinois.
24:08 "Poor guy didn't even get any wings, you know?"
He just needs some Red Bull.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"Does it taste inside out to you" lol I love these!
