Hi, thank for the video. I have a 1979 Trans Am with 29k original miles. The rear main seal is leaking. Is it possible to change the rear main seal with the engine in the car...or...must I remove the engine to replace the rear main seal. Thank you
Hey Julian - we have a video coming up on that!...- hint - warm up that engine hoist 😉
@@TinIndianPerformance Great! I will be looking out for it. We hope to start the repair soon, any hint on when the video will be posted. Thanks!
I understand HO Pontiac when they were in business had a neoprene rear main seal it was out of a Cadillac I believe it was a 400 not sure of the year but they said that it was reusable and as long as it wasn't damaged you would never need a seal again ever I was less pounds of torque on the rear main seal as a result
If the Cadillac seal was the answer, we would not have needed to develop this product! The caddy seal was also only used in 455 / 3.25 main journal engines.... HO Racing Specialties was the name of the company that advertised the Caddy seal for use in a Pontiac
@@TinIndianPerformance You're absolutely right we took a season 400 block Standard bore it over and put up 455 crack and turned the journals down it was a stock standard bore 30 and that's stock 455 is 30 standard bore 👍
@@ROBCAMARENA-wt1gj Rob, a true 455 has a 3.25 main journal with a rear main sealing surface of 3.437 if you turned it down to fit in a 3" main / 400 block you would need to use a seal that has a 3.188 ish rear main sealing surface dimension. You would not be using a caddy seal in your 400 block. The CID of the motor has NOTHING do do with the seal used or the size of the sealing surface of the crankshaft!
