10 years later and this remains the BEST recipe for Mississippi mud cake I have found. I miss her so much and I'm glad her son kept the chanel going
Phyllis’ son…. I am so glad you have kept these videos up since her graduation or heaven. What a tribute to her wonderful life. Thank you for it all.
Yes, isn't that a wonderful tribute to his Mama and her wonderful recipes.

I love seeing her videos.
I still watch her videos almost every night before bed. She is so soothing and comforting. She helps me fall asleep and I always end up rewatching the same ones because I never make it to the end
I still watch and listen too. I love listening to her. She has many great tips. I have yet to try a recipe of hers that I didn't like. I remember listening to her when her and Bucky were well. I adore and miss her! Hope they are reunited once again! ❣
So do I, love to here her voice & miss her so much,I know she is in peace now with Mr. Bucky& her Daughter xoxo
I always enjoyed her cooking. I enjoyed hearing how bucky and Phyllis got together

Almost all of her recipes my mother used when I was growing up in the 70’s & 80’s. It’s so cool to see them made and get the recipes❤

I an from Mississippi and lost this recipe. THANK-YOU ma'am. I will be enjoying it tonight..
I’m using this recipe for a family gathering on Fridays I know it’s going to be delicious and they will love it!
I love how you explain the recipe. It makes it easy to follow along.
We made this every Christmas. Everyone loved it. Btw 1 pound confectioners sugar is about 3 1/2 cups. Info helpful for when you have the bigger bags.
Thank you for keeping her videos up, also please keep making more, be well.
We will!

One thing my grandma made so well which I loved was persimmon pudding...it was so moist that I still remember how it tasted...she made it all the time since she had a huge persimmon tree...never seen a tree so big even to this day....she passed in 1983...she always made it in then old pans where the lid slide to one side....I want one of them old pans...
Im a born and raised Texas gal and I still remember the first time my Mama made this. It was 1971 and she called it Mississippi mud pie Cake, I guess she was covering all the bases.
Loved it then, love it now and it's on the menu for Thanksgivin'.
Love your video's.
I was digging around in my memories as I wrote in my journal and I thought back to when I visited my Aunts home as a little boy; one of the best memories from those visits was her Mississippi Mud Pie. To my great delight I found your great video online. I had to search through all the 'new-thing' ideas that folks have about Mississippi Mud Pie to find this TRUE and accurate recipe. OH, I also remember learning how to spell Mississippi at her house - M I crooked letter crooked letter I crooked letter crooked letter I humpback humpback I -
TY I hadn't heard this said in many a year. I'm 70 now. I think I learned it around 6yrs old.
Love your very calm clear voice! The process is so very clear- I don't think even I could mess it up. Ty!
I'm making my way through the "classic" videos and liking each one. I hope this helps in Mrs.Phyllis' mission in helping the local church school. Thanks Colonel Ritter for keeping this going!!
Your soft calm voice and adorable Southern drawl is so calming. I love to cook and really enjoy your videos. So, I learn and relax at the same time. You are doing a great job and I am so glad I found these videos.
I used to make this when my children were little but I didn't use the cream, just the little marshmallows. I had forgotten about it until it popped up in my suggestions. Thank you so much. It looks wonderful and your instructions are perfect. You're making me nostalgic and miss my grown children, who have moved away many years now and my parents who are deceased. I wonder how many other recipes I've forgotten. I better scroll through your video list. I have just discovered your channel. Thank you and God bless.
You sound like me. I used the actual marshmallows too. Seems to me using creme just makes it harder to make.
I make mine with just a 10 ounce bag of marshmallows. Also mix it all by hand. The texture is much nicer.
I don't care I'm making it with both
You are missed and loved. But your boy is doin you proud.
I love your unhurried voice and hints.
Same here. Such a great teacher
I have always wanted to make the Mississippi mud pie. Thought I would ask Miss Phyllis a question realize that I can't. What an amazing cook this is Phyllis was.
Love her slow easy instructional way. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎 looks delicious.
A little tip ,if you spray the spatula with Pam before you use the marshmallow fluff it helps it not stick
TY for this wonderful tip !!!
this is THE one I remember....the new versions..don't hold a candle to the orig. Your additions...make it even better
So called "country cooks" should take lessons from you. I have Tennessee roots and my Granma cooked like you. Happiest memories are being in the kitchen with her. Thank you. You make me proud to be a woman.
That looks so good. I can’t wait to make it and have WTH my family. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. Yum 😋
Wow, I just had a walk down memory lane! The first time I saw/ate this was when we were living in Conway, SC. It had a cake base, and coconut and nuts were added to the cake; then a large jar of marshmallow creme; then the chocolate frosting. My teeth ached, but my tummy and sweet tooth were very happy! This is almost sinfully good. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.
My mom used to make this recipe when I was a teen in the "70's". I loved it. This brought back so many teen memories. Thanks for sharing.
These didn't get popular in the UK til the 80s... And they were just like this!!! You're a great teacher and a real crafts person!!
Steve if you read this comment I just made this Mississippi mud pie today it was delicious even though it really wasn't a pie it was more like a brownie cake I don't know it was just so delicious my husband loved it, it took me it took me a couple hours to make it but it turned out perfect! I followed the video step by step the whole time I was making it, thanks. BTW have been watching your mother for a couple years, and now watching your Channel keep up the good recipes!
Thank you!
of all the recipies i have seen on how to make the mississippi mud pie recipes. yours by far is the best of the best. BLUE RIBBON AWARD FROM ME!!!!! I MISS YOU AND I STILL WATCH YOUR VIDEOS. THANK YOU!!!
When she got to the part and I thought she was done she says “this is the middle layer” my reaction....😱
R.I.P. Phyllis, glad we have these videos.
I'm sure God loves her cooking❤️
This looks delicious, I bet Mr. Bucky and Phyllis are eating their Jello and yummy desserts up in Heaven ♡
You are Awesome thank you for the recipe❤
Oh my goodness I miss this woman. I shouldn't but I'm planning on making this soon. I've never had Mississippi mud pie and this looks amazing.
I made this in 1985 for my aunt and uncle's anniversary. My dad picked it up and said what is in here? Mississippi Mud Cake and he said feels like mud. That's the heaviest cake. It's rich and delicious people. Great video Phyllis as usual.
I remember when my mother made this! I was in maybe the second or third grade. It looked delicious and when I tried it, my whole world opened up!
This was my favorite cake when I was a kid, however, no one in our family makes it anymore. It may have occasionally showed up at a family reunion but not in many years. We called in Mississippi Mud Cake. Although I have several recipe books with a version of it, this one seems most like the cake I remember. Thanks for sharing! Be blessed 😊
OMG, my mama has been looking for this recipe for years. She had it when I was a teenager, but it was lost in a fire. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Made this marvelous recipe for my brother's birthday. Blew my diet, but it was sooooo deliciously decadent. He loved it and so did his guests. I'm going to watch your other videos, and subscribe.
This cake was fantastic! My boss loved it! I never bake from scratch (find it intimidating), but I watched your video over and over again to encourage myself. I did not find it difficult at all and premeasured everything out ahead of time. THANK YOU! If anyone out there is pondering on whether to try this or not - please do - you won't be disappointed!
So glad the Mississippi Mud Pie turned out well for you and your boss. Hope this will encourage you to bake more from scratch.
marshafisch thanks for being so honest in your comment, I also get intimidated in the kitchen but after reading this comment I'm going to try 💜🇦🇺
This was one of the recipes we would make in my home economics class in back when I was in high school. We would make it for every bake sale. My teacher used one of the original recipes (just like this but with coconut in the batter). The recipe instructed to always put the frosting one while the cake was warm. We tried it both ways.. when when you put it on a warm cake the marshmallow slightly mixes with the frosting and gives it a fudge like texture. If you wait until the marshmallow chills.. it's not as good, the frosting ends up being more like a glaze.

Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!! I have been all over the internet for the last three weeks trying to find the recipe MMP recipe. This is just how I remember it being.
I always add 4 ounces of cream cheese to the batter, and 4 ounces to the icing...so good!
I love these 60-70s recipes. I was in high school in the 60s and remember eating a lot of these. Glad I found you.
I appreciate how you explain things by clearly elaborating on the "why" aspect--this is very helpful to expand cooking knowledge in a more general sense. Your food looks delicious and a lot of it reminds me of how my mom used to cook. I made your rice pudding today with freshly ground nutmeg, and it is wonderful. This recipe is also now on my growing "need to try" list.
My husbands aunt used to make this. He has been bugging me to find "her" recipe, and this is it! It is so easy and decadent. Thank you!!!
My husband and I limit our sugar intake to one dessert a month. I made this the other day for our splurge-day. Turned out fantastic. My husband said it was the very best "Mississippi Mud ANYTHING" he'd ever had. Only thing I did different was leave out the pecans because my husband doesn't like them. We ate our pieces, and my husband took the rest to work and shared. He said it was gone minutes. I'm not always keen on recipes with marshmallows, but this was amazing (and a lot of fun to make). Thanks so much for sharing!

I loved the old fashioned Carrot cake! I didn't mind shredding all those carrots. It was worth it...
Did U save the recipe anywhere or can U add the link for it here, plz!
I love this cake and I continue to love Phyllis and miss her. Thank you Steve for keeping her with us.
You are most welcome, Sandie!
Thank you for sharing this recipe. This was always my favorite Christmas sweet that my grandma made. I had lost the recipe. Thank you. I hope you and yours havea great holiday season. You made my day.
I wish I was more like you in the kitchen... neat and graceful. I wear half of what I'm baking... you are such a joy to watch. my husband is gonna love this mudpie, ty 😊
You are indeed a Blessing sister Phyllis my Mother God rest her soul always made this for me for over 50 years for my Birthday ! Wow, My BUCKY will Love This ! Thank You for the Memories ! Anyone who's never tried this needs to do so ! God Bless You !
So glad I found this recipe, I remember this dish as a child back in the 70s. And have never found a recipe that looked like what I remember until now. Thank you!
This is something you definitely make for alot of people, two people would sugar rush out to eat all of it, I went the extra mile and made the marshmallow and poured over while that was warm, thx for a classic
I made this today. Can't wait to cut it when my company gets here from Mississippi tomorrow. Wish I could put a picture on here. Thank you, Mrs. Stokes. I love your relaxed style. By the way, it is pretty! :)
Great video. I had the pleasure of eating this pie about 15 year's ago at a company Christmas party. BTW. You can buy the carrot cake in a box now. My nephew loved it. He used to cook it before he passed away. Thanks for sharing your video.
Hi Phyllis, I have heard of the Mississippi Mud Pie but never had it. Looks delicious! Great job.
I love watching your cooking videos!!!! You are awesome and remind me so much of my mother & North Carolina (my birth place) I think I have cooked almost all of your recipes for my family ~~ who by the way absolutely love them!!! God bless you and keep up the amazing videos!!
Thank you for sharing her with us. Still miss her.
thanks for sharing this recipe had lost mine years ago i will made this one again for years to come thanks sweet lady for making this God bless
Looks absolutely Delicious! Thank you for sharing!
Hey Phyllis, hope you are doing better. My Aunt used to make this when she was alive and this version is the version I know as well. Not sure why it was ever called a pie but its yummy none the less. Thanks for sharing~
Phyllis, I made this and it was awesome... two of my favorites...chocolate and marshmallow. Yum! I have also made your cream cheese pound cake (heavenly), and your Jell-O recipes, too. All are great - I think you're the best cook on You Tube! Keep up the great work and best wishes and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Thank you for giving this recipe! I love this and made it in the 60's but lost the recipe so this is wonderful. I have learned from using marshmellow cream in fudge to set the jars in hot tap water for 5 to 10 minutes and it is easier to get out of jar and spread. Can't wait to make this again for the grandchildren. You have great recipes.
Hi Phyllis. I just want to thank you for sharing this recipe. My Grandmother adopted and raised me. She was a phenomenal cook and her recipe books were lost during a relatives move. My grandmother passed away in 2018 and I miss her so much. I always tell my husband about my Grams Mississippi Mud pie and he has no clue what I'm talking about! I have googled for the recipe and all of these Pie like recipes come up and I KNOW exactly what the desert looks and tastes like. It's been probably 18 years since I have had it, but I loved it and remember it like it was yesterday. Finding your recipe was heaven sent. As I watched you, I felt like I had a glimpse of my Beloved Gram. I'm going to make this recipe to honor her (and I'm going to EAT it!) Thank you so much for sharing this gift. A true blessing in my life ❤️
Angelpayne6632 : Sorry your grandmother’s recipe books were lost. So were my mother’s. I’ve tried to replicate some using her old Watkin’s Cookbook and she also had a Westinghouse Cookbook which was signed by Betty Furness who was a lovely actress and did commercials on tv in the 50’s.
I enjoy hearing about you and sweet Mr Bucky. I can tell you two are wonderful loving people. Oh and your a great cook too!
Ms. Phyllis, I have the same recipe as yours & it is one of my favorite desserts ever 😊💝! My brother in law was from Mississippi but he had lived in Florida for years. He had a couple of older sister's that came down from Mississippi in 1982 & we had a family get together. They had made this & gave me the recipe but they called it "Mississippi Mud Cake". I take the round end of a wooden or plastic spoons & I poke holes in my cake before adding the marshmallow cream & I actually put the pecans in my chocolate frosting, but I think I'm going to do it your way the next I make it 😊. I love pecans in my brownies so your version makes more sense to me & I also like to see some of the marshmallow mixed in the chocolate frosting exactly like you did yours 😊. Thank You so much sweet lady for sharing this Awesome Tutorial & God Bless 😊💝🙏✝!
That looks so delicious..my mouth was watering the whole time. I love your recipes Mrs. Phyllis!
Can't wait to try this! My son wants me to make it for his 6th birthday coming up. Enjoyed your video, it reminded me of years spent in the kitchen with my Gammy and her teaching me how to cook. She had a very calming presence like you do :)
This sounds so delicious, thank you for speaking very clearly and explaining the Method so well.
She was just a sweetheart! A true southern woman!!
Imade this with my sister inthe 70’s, and many times since. So yummy!
I might make this for our desert bake off. Looks so yummy 😋.
This is the recipe I have been looking for! Thank you for posting it!
I just love that she'd use her fingers to scrape food off of her spatula. It just comforts me - maybe because my mother used to do that. RIP, dear Phyllis and Mr. Bucky.
I found that if I greased my spatula lightly, it kept the marshmallow cream from sticking to the spatula when spreading. Makes cleanup easier also. If you really hate the stickiness and want to make it easy as possible, you can spread it as much as possible with one spatula and finish it off with a second greased spatula. We usually ate it when it was warm because my husband ask every few minutes, " Is it ready yet?" We ate a couple of Lemon Meringue Pies that were, shall I say, a little soft. We had many a good laugh over his impatients with deserts needing to cool. Thanks for your receipe......
What did you grease it with?🙂
Thank you for keeping these videos up and running! I loved your Mom’s videos so much! I learned a lot from Her! Phyllis was the Martha Stewart of RUclips at that time!!!
I haven’t had this since I was a kid! So glad to have this. Thanks!
It looks really delicious!!! I am a chocolate lover. I remember making this somewhat different. This makes me feel hungry, yummy. Great video to share.
I'm so glad you did this recipe. I made it years ago then lost the recipe. Now I can make it again.
Today is Dec. 29th, 2017...I am enjoying a snowy day inside, in Kansas City, Mo. I made this recipe for our Christmas dinner...just a few days ago. We have always called it Mississippi Mud Brownies...LOL...and boy is it heaven. Thanks for sharing...God bless you, Mr. Bucky, Steely and little Sunny.
Just a little hint. Whenever I bake anything chocolate I add 1 teaspoon Espresso Powder. It really enhances the chocolate flavor and you'll never taste the coffee flavor. It just makes good Very Good.
Love this video and the her calm voice as she explains all. So well done and now to make this caks. God Bess your soul Phyllis❤
thank you thank you thank you. my friends mom use to make this for us when we were kids. i could never find the correct recipe, as you said everyone makes it a pie with pudding. This is the cake i remember and i am sooooooo excited to make. thanks for making my day!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and knowledge! Love the stories with them and that you give tips and explain why you do what you need to do those tips.
I miss this sweet lady and her videos. 💕
Wow! That looks so delicious and awesome! I can't wait to try it! Thank you so much for patiently making it so we could understand how to make it too! Your very generous!
Made Mississippi Mud cake many, many, moons ago....I only used the mini marshmallows and popped back into the oven to melt ( dislike working with marshmallow crème to spread). Brings back memory of Tunnel of Fudge Cake too, using the Jiffy chocolate icing mix, I don't think they make that any more.
Well, found a new favorite ❤️☺️😋👍🔥 there are a lot of your recipes that I am excited to do, thank you ma'am, so thankful for finding your channel, hope you are doing good, take care and God Bless ❤️
My daughter made several friends in college with a dessert she'd prepare called "Death by Chocolate." This looks just as rich, but a bit easier to prepare!
i love watching you mix your ingredients

Just got through making this for my husband's work lunch tomorrow. So hard not to get a big scoop if it! Thank you, Phyllis! I'm going to bake one if your pies next :)
