I have both of these on my pedal board and while they both fall in the "reverb" category, I think they don't really compare well, because they're so different. I use the Afterneath for the haunting reverb (almost delay-like) and the Slö for the songs that need more of a dreamy reverb. When the sustain mode is active on the Slö and a note or chord is being washed out as a drone-like sound, you can't use the reverb on it anymore. For me, that's when the Afterneath comes in handy so I can still add reverb to the notes that I'm playing "over" the drone.
This is the only downfall of the SLO for me. The moment I kicked on Dream and hit the latching sustain, I was like sweet! Then, I played over the sustain and it was dry. I was so disappointed. I don’t even use the Dream mode for this reason. HUGE lost opportunity. I don’t want to have to buy two reverbs to make the setting useable.
I had a slo for a while, and it’s very good. The one thing that bugged me about it is that the volume of the wet signal tapers off too soon for my taste. For 99% of people it would be fine, but I always wanted just a bit more reverb blasting through.
I just shot out both today at a shop. Both amazing pedals The Afterneath had the modes mini dial and was cool but too many sounds with little difference to my ears. Really liked the Slo so I bought it and after throwing it on my board am not disappointed. The latching mode is amazing. Make a quick pad, plug in my bass & play a sick bass line under it. Instant soundtrack.
Between these two, I found myself gravitating more towards the Slö so I bought that. To this day, I still love it but the Afterneath V3 really upped the game. I might end up buying that too.
the afterneath is such a unique reverb... still learning how to use it even after 3 months, there’s just so much weird stuff it can do. currently run it before my fuzz and modulation! cheers for the video! enjoyed as always pedalpartners :)
ethanhlew the cool thing about the afterneath js that once you figure out what the knobs do and you find a truly great setting, you leave it on that setting for a few months and you completely forget what each knob does and then you start messing around for another hour
@@OlegUstimenko EXACTLY couldn't put it better myself except when you accidentally leave everything maxed out & turn it on to be met by the most ferocious scream haha
@@pedalpartners yeah you gotta be careful with the mix and diffuse lmao. is there any chance you'll demo the old blood noise rever and dark star? im planning on getting both at some point but there arent that many demos online sadly
To me the afterneath sounds better with the dampen on lower settings as it really smoothens out the delays, while the Slo sounds better with a brighter sound so in a way you need both. Or at least thats the excuse I'm going to use when I buy one despite already owning the other.
For me it's the SLO. Dont get me wrong, the Afterneath is an amazing pedal, but for me I found it to be a bit too "shimmery" and almost too powerful. Crazy good sounds come out of it tho, no doubt. The Slo with the latching dream mode, and overall more approachable take on a modulated plate reverb is more up my alley. The rise and sink features as well are just so musical right out of the box. Both great pieces of gear!
well said. i love both for different reasons. the afterneath has such a unique sound, those stacked short delays are so pleasing. for versatility though the slö is great & probably the dreamiest pedal i own!

Thanks for a great video!! I had the both on my list, and I'm no nearer to making a decision between the two after this wonderful vid! The correct answer is both. naturally. But, I ahve to decide. I've gone from the Boss RV-5, to the Flux Liquid Ambience to the Chase Bliss Dark World. I was hoping theDark World would be it, but its not, for me anyways. Love the Dark, but the left side is just a huge disappointment. So, I keep circling back to the Afterneath. And, now the Slö which is an updated Fathom? Wow! Great problems to have: choosing the right reverb. Thanks again!
all those reverbs you mentioned are great! the afterneath is unique, nothing else like it the slö has some great features i love as well i couldn't choose either so got both ;) i'd recommend the afterneath if you like using dirt with your reverb & the slö if you want some calm ambience, but they can both do both if you know what i mean! xmas is soon so who knows ;)

Could be crazy but The afterneath is s little more aggressive/has more presence... i love both of these and amtrying to decide between them as i type this and its proving to be quite perplexing... Part of me feels like the Slo is more usable, the afterneath is still usable but i feel like its a “find a setting and leave it” kind of a pedal.. that being said, i love the definition of the afterneath(situationally) idk this one is proving very difficult for me.
it's a tough choice, you're right. they both shine at what they do. there's nothing else out there like the afterneath & the slö has a beautifully dreamy tone. let me know which one you get!
@@pedalpartners I've played through the afterneath and find it more of a hassle to dial in than what i think is practical for a live setting.
