As former user of galaxy watch, i really do not understand why the people talks about the battery life and comparing with Fenix series. This watch shows me 6 days battery life, while the display is always on mode. After 6 days i will deffinetly find time to charge it. I can just plugged in while watching tv or playing game or even taking a shower, not an issue. I never go out where there is no electricity for more then 6 days.
The issue described with battery life here is odd to me. I have owned the epix gen 2 for a week as well and I have owned fenix watches since the line has existed, so I am familiar with them also. 1) Turning off Always On Mode: I do not see myself looking at the time when any of my watches are facing away from me (be that a regular analog watch or a smartwatch); that is just physically impossible anyway. So, gesture mode is perfect for me. Plus, the chip in the epix is so good that the moment I turn my wrist (gesture) to look at the time, I instantly see the time. Even if I lose a fraction of a second of my life waiting to see the time, I think I will be alright. But, that has not been the case so far; I turn my wrist normally to see the time, and there it is. 2) 16 Days of Battery Life: To some, having a month before charging their watch is a great convenience. I get that. It is nice. But, to me, even as active as I am (which is a lot - I train hard six days a week), I also have a career where I have to sit down and create and monitor projects, coordinate logistics, be on Zoom calls, etc. If I do not find the time to set my watch down once every 16 days to charge while I read emails and go through Excel spreadsheets, I probably have a huge time management problem. Charging once every 16 days is fine for me. 3) Sleep data: Oddly, even with the settings as I have them, resulting in 16 days of battery (according to the watch battery status), I have been getting my sleep data every day. I do not understand how that is not happening in the example given in this video. Weird.
I also don't understand why someone would want to have Always On Mode active. It might be feasible during activities, but outside of those I need to look watch maybe two to three times a day. Why in the earth I would keep the screen on all the time for that?
Ahaa I cannot agree more with you about the stamina thing 😅 It made me laugh too. Like, on your MTB on a trail : "Wait, I'm gonna check my stamina to see if I can climb that hill" 😋 Still an awesome device though. See the Epix as the successor to the Fenix with a nicer display and one day... the same battery life.
I thought exactly the same about stamina. In addition it is a value based on a not reliable one : VO2 - personally I find the performance status more consistent. It is based on your daily condition and can help you to decide if you should or you should not push. Maybe using stamina can create a brain link absolutely personal where, you know where you are based on that number... But when you train hard you cannot accept to hear from a watch what you can do... You just want to know what you have done 😁... Thank you forr your video, I really.loved it!
The OX is and respiration is incredibly useful when ascending mountains at higher altitude like 14ers in Colorado for instance. It’s reassuring to have this data when you get into the thinner air past the ridge line 12,000 ft. Or so). This is generally when the body will start getting more taxed.
Crazy that Epix 2 for $899 has limited map space as well as none downloaded. Garmin management is not thinking strait or they live in a different world as the rest of us. Thanks for video.
2:12 battery life on Epix Gen 2 is FINE as is, if you can't be bothered to charge your watch once a week, you have more time than me. My biggest anger with Epix Gen2 is no LED flashlight. Retail wise, it's at par with Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar, comn, give the Epix Gen 2 Sapphire a flashlight, not just Pro
Nice review. Downloadable maps is one of my favorite features. This let's you create courses on the fly and see upcoming turns. No need to use the 0hone.As far as why. I think most of this is new and it may take time to figure out how to use these features.

Hi -- I am not "techie" and won't be using a Garmin, but in previous years I have enjoyed your race videos and training videos. Will you be doing training videos on the NYC Half? I hope so!
Did you see that as negative? I just kinda thought it was a fair review. I didn't meant to make it sound like it wasn't worth getting. But I am waiting on the Fenix 7 delivery. And I love the Enduro.
@@Dirtyoldsneakers Thank you for the response. You are correct my comment was misleading (typing after a run on a phone lol). I don't think your review was really negative per se. I think you are the ONLY youtube reviewer who called out some features that are maybe not so great about the Epix(s) and I've watched maybe half a dozen others, including one of the big names you mentioned in this video. I think the battery life hero numbers are misleading and you did a good job of calling that out amongst other items. I am a Garmin fanboy - owned multiple Fenix and Forerunners over the years. Thanks for putting this video together.
In my opinion, it would be more entertained if during the talk you showed more of the watch on your hands (so we can see how the product looks and work) instead of us just staring at your face all the time. Great video, though!
I have the carbon grey Fenix 7X sapphire solar…has everything I need and want (except AMOLED). I hope the series 8X sapphire solar offers Amoled and a stainless bezel option - I don’t like the blue titanium. 🙏🏻 The Epix series needs solar. It only makes sense for a screen that needs more power. 🤷🏻♂️
I have a question. I am not a runner I go to the gym ski few times a year I go for walks with my dog. I just got the epix I had iwatch s3 before. I am not sure I should keep the epix or get the series 7 apple. Any recommendation. Thx
Just FYI, I am ditching an Apple Watch Series 6 for either the Fenix 7 or EPIX 2. The Apple Watch is a joke. The last few weeks it has been spending more time on the charger than on my wrist, and I've had it only about one year. I have had a Fenix 5X for four years and the battery has always kept up with me.
I have another point about the epix display. No doubt it is rich of colours and vibrant but it kills a little the mood of a Garmin watch that is aiming to be 'sporty' more than 'smart'... Otherwise I would have expected a microphone and an LTE functionality... 😅...
For me is really shocking that one can make and answer calls via bluetooth on Venu2+ and on Epix not possible. The answer on my question from Garmin shop was that it would drain the battery too much :) But the way of using my watch is absolutely up to me, not up to vendor.
@@janmasek699 according to a couple reviews I've seen, Garmin claims they can't achieve the Fenix class depth rating and include the microphone/speaker on the epix.

Is the body battery/stamina thing not common across all the advanced Garmin watches including Fenix and FR. in any case, when the data is acquired, its about trending and not absolutes. I mean, if one doesn't trust the metrics (and I agree, they are probably not that accurate scientifically), then the whole Garmin system is debunked. In terms of the screen, for me, the Fenix 7 SS screen is just poor - something to do with this specific version of the sapphire screen with solar. I didn't want solar (useless in the UK) but wanted sapphire and a better screen - Epix wins hands down.
So does this mean I need to go for the 7X? 😅 I had to turn off do not disturb and battery saver to get sleep recording. Super annoying. It’s a bit of a challenge getting used to the small screen.
Why just not to use sleep mode? I'm using this mode on my Epix2 which is including "do not disturb" as well as "simple night watch face". In sleep mode it steel recording all sleep data... I found sleep mode very convenient
@@aleksandrkravchenko9699 That's my experience as well. I still get my sleep data. What is described on the video is the first time I hear of this "issue". I even searched the Garmin Forum (in the Epix 2 section) and in 205 distinct posts on the watch where folks list feedback - praise, criticism, and concerns - on anything from battery life to screen resolution, I did not find a single topic related to the lack of sleep data in the use-case described in this video. I am not saying it does not happen (I do not know for certain). But, if it does, it is certainly rare enough that I do not find anyone else complaining about it.
Garmin has the worst and most user unfriendly software I have ever seen in any of the smartwatches I used in the market. It is confusing and often does not work at all. I have a garmin epix (gen 2), carbon gray dlc titanium with black band, premium active and I will send it back for a refund. It will not find my Telstra WiFi 5G broadband connection my other WiFi items including other brands find with ease. Garmin, this is a useless piece of product that is not only overpriced but also user unfriendly. Do not purchase such an outdated unsmart-watch.
