Lyrics
When routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And resentment rides high
But emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold?
You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed?
Our respect runs so dry
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
But love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
You cry out in your sleep
All my failings exposed
And there's a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Just that something so good
Just can't function no more
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Then love, love will tear it apart again
Love, love will tear it apart again Видеоклипы

I feel like it's the little things that keep us going. My job sucks. My girlfriend cheated on me. I live in a shitty, noisy apartment. But I get strength and happiness from the small things in life. The sun. The rain. Helping an elderly person. Saying hi to random strangers. Holding the door open for someone. It makes me feel good.
Hipe you're ok. You'll find a new girlfriend and a better apartment. Stick with it ;)
You learned the secret! Everything comes at a steep price though but you got it.
Hope you won't think twice about reaching out if ever you need, even if we're strangers we can be here for eachother 👌🏼

Hi, check this for another example of tortured soul bringing hopes and Joy... Inspired by Coronavirus crisis. Kad & his son Ian together. ruclips.net/video/wq4-wcT8mVI/видео.html
Lot of people thinks to joy division music as sad music.. i don't.. there is a difference between quality and crap, that makes you feel happy for only one second and at last, all the good feeling desappears.. and doesn't make you think as you listen to it.. i love jd music because it makes me travel whit my emotions.. exploring myself.. this is what makes music eternal. ❤
I’m sure his wife felt tortured when she found out that Ian cheated on her for years with a reporter but was possessive and meanwhile she couldn’t be with other men. Why do people speak on him as being a good person just because he has epilepsy??
No we are many!
Paradoxical, perfect! So many would call it irony and it's no way shape or form, ironic. Way to call up the correct term, Dean.
So timeless. Young people are still finding inspiration from Ian Curtis and his music close to 50 years on. I think it would have been very comforting to him to know that.
Bone crushing lyrics, eerie sound and haunting vibe. One of the unmatched masterpieces of Ian Curtis.

My younger brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. This song was released on April 18th, 1980. Happy 44 years to this masterpiece on April 18th, 2024.
It's 2024... it's been 44 years since you've been with us... it's unbelievable to me. what did you go through, what did you go through.. I don't know how long I will live, but thanks to this music and your other music, it is easier to survive the days... this life is hard to fight and fight, to fight the war with myself and the things around me.. .I discovered you 4 years ago when I was 11, which may not be much, but during that time I realized that your music and stuff was amazing. your music saves me better than drugs. I'm counting the days, how much time I have left here, I gave myself a day or two a few months ago, but I'm still here. I write poems, lyrics, play guitar and piano. these save me.. I will buy the other vinyls from Joy division but what I want the most and know I will have forever is a Joy division concert. I love you and miss you so much! whoever is part of this punk/post punk subculture tour will remember you forever!
I know you can't read this and feel my love, but if I'm not here anymore, I won't survive tomorrow, all this will be in my heart forever and I will remember you! I am proud of what you have achieved! thanks for everything Ian!
From Hungary. -Luca
I hope you stay. When I was 15 I almost left the planet - I had run away from home, I was ditching school, got pregnant from first time, boyfriend left me, SO many things. I let music help me through my pain - I was 13 when this song was released.
I have had SO MANY amazing days since then. This life can be SO painful but it is WORTH IT!
Stick around and live big. All of us other humans need you here.
Stay, there is more to see.
I hope you are still here. Big hugs.
God bless you and please stay here. If not for the fact that you understand pain and what it feels like... So now try the next feeling, called JOY, and give that a go.
Now 40 years since their last concert, Ian's suicide and the band's subsequent breakup.
Even the fact they were only around for 3 years doesn't diminish the legacy or influence they continue to have.
However mental health still remains a stigma 40 years later. It's ok not to be ok, don't be afraid of speaking to your family or mates.
Love Will Tear Us Apart at some point in our lives, but it will also bring us closer together.
@Ryan Peters - agreed.
Wise words
Amen Mr.Peters.
They didn't break up. The remaining 3 band members formed New Order and brought in Gillian Gilbert.

If you ever have the chance to read this bands autobiography. Do so. It truly is one of the most darkest, human emotional and alive experience you will ever get from such a work of art. RIP Ian Curtis.
I did, 'touching from a distance' wrote by his wife.
Koen Van Overstraeten where can I get this book?
'touching from a distance' by Deborah Curtis, found it in a bookwebshop, Amazon has it for sure.
'Control' is a movie about his life.
I've read many books on Joy Division and you're right there really is a darkness too his life. I think the man was a genius. The film "Control" in my opinion was really well done. It was a sad loss when he passed away and although New Order are a great band I often wonder what other great songs Ian Curtis could have given us. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in my opinion has to be one of the greatest songs of all time. No matter how many times I've heard it it still sounds good every time and to be honest I rarely only listen to it once at a time I have to press repeat a few times, which is the sign of a good song.
In a little over half an hour Ian would have left us 44 years ago
Wish he could have got the help he needed. He'll never know how much he is missed and how he is now regarded as one of the greatest musical icons. RIP Ian , son , brother , husband and father.

I discovered Joy Division back in the 80's as a young teenager. It was like discovering a mysterious object from outer space, or some ancient stone tablet covered in mystic runes. Their songs are so emotional and compelling but mysterious and otherworldly at the same time. You experience Joy Division, but you never really "understand" them. That's a compliment, and a quality of all great art--the mystery of it. The depth. Like the unfathomable depth and beauty of the ocean.

@harleycampbell4981 Not only that, but the public didn't know immediately that Curtis was dead, not even John Peel. It took quite a few weeks for the news to break. I remember that there were no print mediums available for several weeks, due to the strike of the printers I think it was, so no NME or Melody Maker around for weeks. Then I remember popping into the news agent and Sounds had Joy Division on their cover, and at first I was jubilant, JD had made it, the're on the cover of one of the relevant music papers around at that time. But my joy only lasted for two or three seconds, after reading under the photograph
Ian Curtis 15.07.1956 - 18.05.1980. It slowly dawned on me that " f*** this can't be true".
So no, there was no Joy Division and especially no LWTUA beeing played on the radio on the 18/19 May 1980, because nobody knew yet that Ian had passed away, apart from the people close to him. Either the original poster has got something mixed up, or seeking for likes by spreading fake news.

ha ha ha...you can't be serious. even you ignore depression. every day of your life. how many times can you honestly say, that a friend called and said, hey wanna hang out...and you say, oh i don't know...because you knew that friend was depressed and went on and on about their problems to the point where it was bumming you out, so you said you would but you had things to do. your cousin calls and wants to know if you want to go see a movie. no...not really, so you tell them you already had other plans...etc. a homeless person is in the street yelling at himself. you're in your car, you drive by hoping he doesn't do something crazy to you or your car. he has mental issues, yet you won't let him sleep on your porch...but you really do care, it's just that....................a person comes into the emergency room surrounded by cops, strapped to a gurney, because he was grabbing people and threatening people. you look away, hoping he doesn't involve you. you stay far enough away to not get hurt, but close enough to see the action, when they wrestle him off the gurney. you could have went over to ask if he needed a friend. could you call someone for him to talk to, does he need to eat something. try to help calm the situation....not you. he's gross and greasy. you can't touch something like that. it's not always the kid down the street or the pop star. it's people you see every day in your life and do nothing to help them. i know you don't try to help. i've seen you, and your family and your friends. i'm that 'gross thing' that needed your help. you weren't there. get it? of course not. it makes you feel better to shout slogans you can chant... 'never ignore depression'....while you, yourself, ignore depression.
@@patcoats he was kidding. Those of us who continually fight depression give ourselves breaks. It may be an addictive behaviour, drugs or real progress.
Great band ~ more than I can say. Means much. RIP Ian c.
Those moments in time......those tunes and personalities that hold that moment in time.....that time you remember.
I Love the segment at the end where the vocals end and the music kind of carries on for a minute longer. It always gives me feeling inside my chest. Almost like its trying to touch my heart, or perhaps my soul. Thank You for this music.
Yep 😪😪😪

u
Michael Sheen you got us here
I am going to turn 65 near the end of July and this song never gets old
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
When routine bites hard and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high, but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
[Chorus]
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
[Verse 2]
Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed? Our respect runs so dry
Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives
[Chorus]
But love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
You cry out in your sleep, all my failings exposed
There's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold
Just that something so good, just can't function no more
[Chorus]
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Then love, love will tear it apart again
Love, love will tear it apart again
He died so well
I tend to listen to this song through out October more than anytime of the year
+arthur carrasco yesssss same!!!
Ellen Droad what a song!
I hadn't heard this song in such a long time. It was played in an episode of Your Honor, and I had to come here and relive this great tune.
...I feel Ian's depression when i see and hear him again. So sad. There was never a happy sound in his voice. We all need love. So did he. Bless him.
Annemarie Lesage you should listen to one of our new singles if you’re into post-punk! Would appreciate it thank you 🖤
he had a wife and young baby that he left at home whilst he travelled, during his travels he cheated on his wife with a French lady, he couldn't choose between the two this lead to depression. Plus he suffered from epilepsy (which the people around him didn't understand, they just though he was stupid) so he killed himself.
He had love. A chemical imbalance is what he suffered from.
Annemarie Lesage stay strong. We, as a collection of people are here for you
AirGun, AirSoft and Fishing wrong
I have to tell the story of how a complete rando got me into this song. I was in a pub one day and this guy just came up to me and just went "dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun". I had no idea what he was doing. He said "you look like Ian Curtis." Then he went "dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun" again. He was sh*tfaced but it stuck with me. So I looked up this song and that's how I became a fan.
Fantastic
Brilliant story man!
you look nothing like him
Thats wondeful
"U" don't even look like him
Tragic, i know how it feels to be that low, god bless
Ellen Droads favorite song much love
On this day, 36 years ago. A young dead soul who existed on the best terms he could made a fatal mistake searching for another day. He had the spirit but lost the feeling and gave us everything and more but the strain was too much and couldn't take much more. He felt it closing in, day in, day out, day in, day out as love tore him apart. Still touching from a distance, his heart and soul will never fade a away from the shadowplay.
beautiful
utter drivel written as bollocks doggerel.
People who commit suicide aren't heroic nor should they immortalized.
+Tan We should sympathize with people who commit suicide and understand their suffering rather than immortalize or shame them.
Awesome, I'm late to the Joy Division party but impressed. Deep, emotion filled music with a haunting yet comforting sound. This is why I love RUclips. Too young at the time to appreciate this music but the RUclips time machine let me briefly relive that era.👏🏾
