This episode REALLY convinces me that the BoBF Chapter 5 episode mando had was supposed to be the real first episode of this season. Like when you look at that episode it was crazy over the top, cool new setting in space, shows off the dark saber, and it gave us ALOT of background for Mandalore and the current plot of The Mandalorian. Chapter 5 in BoBF had a lot of set up for this show and NO relevance for Boba, and its very abrupt for people who skipped BoBF to go into this season without that episode. This first episode for Mando was underwhelming because we already technically had the 1st episode almost a year ago.
yea, they knew BOBF was just a quick way to pad their streaming offerings and were clearly desperate for cameos. Imagine how amazing Mando season 3 would be by giving us luke right off the bat.
"Somehow Grogu returned." They didn't even address Grogu returning in the RECAP. Season 2 ends with one of the two main characters leaving, and now he's back after reuniting in a different show. Wow...
I also pointed that out, then someone told me they only posted a 2 minute recap of Grogu's return on RUclips 🙄 I feel sorry for the people who didn't watch Boba Fett
@@freddied8479 I think we use the word "great" a bit to much when it comes to The Mandalorian... The show has some moments and given me hope at times, but so much of it is amateur. Like they are throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks. When its being held up next to Andor its flaws only become more obvious. Andor, a show with many more restrictions story telling wise and even interest wise just makes the absolute most of every min you are watching and its a great example of less is more. Mando, Obi, and Boba all seem like experiments and mistakes are fine Its like Disney is saying "hey we are just screwing around" So much of its down right lazy.
@@chancellor2755 Thing is, most people didn't like Andor unfortunately. The general audience wants a "fun" Star Wars with aliens and droids. They think Andor is boring... They don't care that much about story, characters, and dialogue
Also mando became pretty attached to ig 11 and had started to trust him. However it’s still a dumb idea to bring him back. He was clearly completely and utterly destroyed in the self destruct explosion. In the first season he repeatedly said that the reason he had to self destruct was because his manufacturer’s protocol dictated that he *must* not be captured alive under any circumstances. What is the point of the self destruct sequence if the droid can still be recovered after the explosion? That violates the manufacturer’s protocol!
I love how in season 2 the Armorer tells Mando go to go the mines and he replies it’s impossible and in the season 3 premier he (for some reason) travels to her to rehash the conversation but this time she’s telling him it’s impossible 🤷♂️
I'm still really confused as to how the armorer thinks that she can tell Mando he's no longer a Mandalorian he has the darksaber he's literally her King
@@DillsyYourDaddy67 No he isnt a mandalore by the cult standarts. Thats literally the whole problem of Mandalore. That the cults dont believe in dark saber bullshit, thats why they never really followed any dark saber wielder.
I honestly feel like the Mando hijacked episodes of Book of Boba Fett felt more like the true opening for Season 3 compared to the actual Season 3 premiere. Those episodes also seem like they were better received, and that technically wasn't event Mando's own show.
Yes, wish they saved it for now. Anyone that didn't see Boba will be lost on how Grogu got back and what happened with Luke. Thought they would do a recap on that.
@@silversobe They did a quick recap of what happened on Boba Fett and just posted it on RUclips. I would've been really pissed if I had skipped Boba Fett
@@silversobe if they dont see boba fett its their own damn fault, the ending of mando season 2 leads into boba fett and boba leads into season 3. people so damn slow holy 😂
This Mandalorian episode felt like in a video-game when players have arrived to a open-world hub and took on some side quests before going on his/her journey. That was the entire episode. There was no plot nor even a driving conflict in this episode. IG-11’s memory chip, Bo-Katan’s wipeout, Mando finding the pool. So which one, then?
The plot is Mando getting to Mandalore while being able to do the thing. My real fear is that this season is gonna mostly be the setup for him accomplishing that goal with the season ending with him finally being ready to accomplish the goal and not him actually accomplishing it.
Also, I was already thrown off by the opening even before the turtledile attack. The helmets the foundlings wear look straight out of something you'd find on a Toys R Us shelf or Party City display.
It would’ve been a lot more effective if the children do not wear a helmet until they reach puberty, receiving your helmet is a rite of passage, a sign you’re becoming an adult. Many tribal ceremonies do things like this, it was a missed opportunity to have that.
That was the point... they made the cheap ass Hasbro Toy Helmets for Halloween or whatever "Disney-"CANON by putting this thing on screen... but they gave it to the kid Character, so the Kids got the cheap Kids Toy, that is A level meta trolling (if the joke lands right). And it's Nostalgia bait at the same time, they look at the Toys and what they can recycle from that so some People go "oooh i had that as a toy when i was 8!!! I MEMBER!!!". ...but with this, the Toy Helmets always looked silly and it looked silly in the Show.
@@Apac12I'm sorry, but they looked really cheap. I don't expect perfection, but they were too distracting for what's supposed to be a serious scene.
The dumbest thing in the alligator fight is when they shoot their grappling hooks into it. The thing is enormous. The only thing that would do is give the creature an opportunity to kill them which is what happens. It was the most contrived stupid decision possible just to put them in a position of needing to be saved. Also, they clearly could have just run into the cave which is what I assumed they would do from the start.
Hated that scene for so many reasons. Why even do the ceremony if the water is literally home to a giant monster? Why not just grab the kids and jetpack away? Why not throw the explosives into its mouth? Why are they so damn incompetent for a people who are supposed to be strong lore-wise?
What I kept thinking about is how is a reptile of that size living in a body of water so small? I suppose if the water connects out to the ocean and it can somehow sense creatures way up the bay (? How exactly?) then it could be an ocean creature diving in for a snack ?
I was really annoyed by the Bo-Katan scene. You mean to tell me that because Din accidentally claimed the Darksaber in his fight with Moff Gideon, Bo-Katan's followers just peaced out on her? She didn't have the Darksaber before and they were by her side; all of a sudden, she's lost all relevance and authority? That's ridiculous; it makes no sense at all. Also, pinning the blame for the scattering of the Mandalorians on the Children of the Watch is pretty rich coming from her, considering that she did a lot more to damage the unity of the Mandalorians in the past. Also, bringing IG-11 back undermines his sacrifice in the Season 1 finale. He went out in the most badass way possible, but because the writers can't help themselves with doling out more fan service and memberberries, they're bringing him back and shoehorning in Babu Frik to facilitate that return. I mean, I love me some Babu Frik, but it's just another way to shove in the fan service.
@@shaggjones4854 So why didn't she just challenge Mando for the Darksaber at the end of season 2? Clearly it doesn't have to be a fight to the death so what's the big deal? Mando didn't even really want it anyway. Why are so many things getting resolved off screen?
@@williamcronshaw5262 It’s not. She wasn’t gonna fight Mando at the end of S2 due to her making a promise to help him with Grogu. And I’m sure you can’t just immediately challenge someone who just won the dark saber in fair combat else Mandalorians would just keep killing each other and replace their leader every five seconds. She’ll likely challenge him later though.
What frustrated me most was them bringing back IG-11. After seeing Andor it’s really starting to get frustrating when character deaths aren’t taken seriously. I started to get scared of this when the creators decided to make Beskar completely invulnerable to everything. There’s very little tension in the series when the characters are invincible and also constantly come back from the dead.
@@scottneil1187 he means that ppl actually die in andor so its jarring to come back to a series in the same universe where deaths might not be clear or certain
It’s a droid… it would be different it. It was the guy who said “this is the way” the slave guy that helped him is still dead and arguably the most meaningful death. IG-11 coming back isn’t that much of a stretch to be honest
They did the same with Cobb Vanth. I just looked up to see if he died and he didn't because I didn't watch BoBF aside from the 2 episodes Mando was in.
one could argue that androids make the most sense to bring back. better than darth maul getting cut and half and falling down a bottomless pit but some how not get crushed or bleed out because half of his body is missing. I know light sabers cauterize, but seriously dude was cut in half there is only so much burnt flesh can hold in
True. Normally what justifies a scene like that is to give a character a chance to prove themselves or reveal something to the audience, but goddamn it really is a pointless action scene 😂
Or at the very least step back so that you are not 5 meters away from its mouth.. this was a chance to show how badass other Mandos are but instead they looked like incompetent fools
It was a decent episode overall.. Glad to see the show back.. BUT it was criminally short, insanely rushed and I hope half the show isnt him trying to fix the droid. I hate that idea, why can't they let "dead" characters be.. Sure lets make his sacrifice mean nothing. This was some strange writing, felt like it mainly went towards fan-service.
We're talking about a droid here. Not a living breathing being. Now Mando having a connection with IG11 is understandable especially since IG11 is an assassin droid. Based on what was said in the episode the same IG11 from Season 1 may not return if Mando is going to get a new memory chip. So it could very much be a new consciousness inside IG11's body assuming the identity of IG11.
When AJ rated the episode lower than Alex my jaw hit the floor. I was really expecting him to hit it with a 8/10, but I guess Andor has shown him just how good Star Wars can be when written by people who care about the universe. I wonder how the crew would rate all the old Star Wars Disney+ series post Andor.
Andor was seriously so good, I hear people say it’s boring and I don’t understand that at all, everyone has their own opinion so I get it but for me interesting story and realistic dialogue between characters is just as important and exciting as action scenes. I wish Andor writers would do some of the MCU shows lol.
@therotten6152i mean, what else is new? Disney is churning out shit series’ to shit movies. It’s about time Mando goes to shit too. Good riddance. RIP Disney
I just didn't buy the main plot. I'm like why do you still want to hang out with these boring people? I don't find the Armorer faction cool. I thought Mando would have a realization to ditch these losers. We're already in season 3 and he's still trying to hang out with them. It's getting repetitive.
This show could truly be legendary if it was just longer. My man Mando was fast traveling with how many different places he traveled in like 15 minutes lmao and it all just felt rushed, fun but rush.
I fear it will continue like this, Seasons 1+2 were more Episodic in nature, adventure of the Week, that is why it worked so well. S3 is a serialized format now, they warned us the format had changed because it is all about Mandalore this Season and he is not planet hopping so much anymore. I love serialized storytelling IF i can binge watch the damn Season all at once. Same as with Andor, Kenobi and Boba Fett, you always get one story drip fed over multiple weeks and its just excruciating if the plot moves so damn slow. If you can just sit down and watch the whole thing then it is probably really good, but 2 months to watch one 4 hour movie that is split in 30 minute segments.... uuuuuugh can we please just stop doing this?
@@scottneil1187 light-speed travel still takes time. It's not a teleportation device, it can take even months to go from one point in the galaxy to the other
@@imsentinelprime9279 No, its been over 2 years since the last Mandalorian season, and this episode was the shortest length in runtime and im just saying it would be nice in my opinion to have two episodes to come out, they did that for the Obi Wan Kenobi show.
I kept wondering why the Mandalorians didn't run 50 ft or so then casually walk away from the water until the big water monster went away instead of losing precious members of their almost extinct culture/people
I get what you’re saying but Mandalorians aren’t going to retreat. Doesn’t matter if there is only a dozen of them left they’re going to go out fighting.
I think the issue is Din (Mando) is meant to be pulled between the old school Mandos (amorer) and the new age Mandos (Bo Kataan) neither seemed excited to see him as they dislike the others. So right now Mando is leaning towards his family, but they are obviously setting up him convincing Bo Kataan and Mandalorians with similar thoughts to unite them all.
Which is still bs because Pre Vizsla and Bo-Katan were Death Watch and took their helmets off. The Armorer is just from the weirdo zealot fanclub tbh. Not to mention the lack of motive for this “I need to be forgiven” when he literally encounter other Mandalorians that don’t need their helmets on 24/7. He doesn’t question why the Armorer is like that or ask Bo questions about past Mandalore or anything regarding the people or the culture.
@@chriscrossx3701 What recap when anybody who did not watch Bobafett would have no idea how Mando and Grogo reunited and where his new ship came from?
discussion about film and TV can be long, and detailed. you can talk about your favourite scenes and lines in films for hours. so there is no problem with the discussion length.
@@Dae... interesting. But what do you feel is the intention is of mentioning the length of the episode and length of discussion. Its not relevant, as people can have long discussions about a single quote or shot in a film.
I just knew that the ending of the second season should have been the end for the Grogu x Mando story line.. at least for much longer. Now they kinda watered down that incredible emotional moment and they are just dragging it without any direction.
Yeah something feels off. Not as epic and story decisions they made in book of boba fett created a weird dynamic for mandos story. Also filoni isn’t even writing
Yup. I figured it was going to be mid at best Wished they just stuck to cartoons. Live action has too many down sides. And I’ll be honest. John isn’t a good writer, he has good ideas sure, but damn I’ve never been impressed with his writing
Yea I have a bad feeling after this episode. My hype for the Mandalorian already got a bit lowered after seeing how great Andor was. This episode just make it seem worse.
This episode feels like it was written by the writer's 7 year old kid and the production team did their best to make his story look good. The practical effects for a lot of the characters look really good, from the aliens to the droids and Mandalorian armor, and the cgi looks pretty good too. Only issue with the look is it doesn't feel like Star Wars sometimes but maybe Andor has spoiled me. I did love the hyperspace creatures and I hope that wasn't just fan service.
I feel like the theme of this episode was removing all of the development and consequences up until now, like how on is IG-11's protocol explosion fixable? It's literally designed to explode to hide the method of it's destruction, and it did so half in lava? I know they brought Grogu back in Boba Fett, but like this season should have been moving on with the story and getting Grogu back in the next season Everything's trying to go back to the way it was or did go back to the way it was, and very little set up for a direction for this season outside of just becoming a Mandalorian again The whole thing just took me out of it
i feel like this is a three episode story arc. There's a big ass pirate ship which will no doubt hold the city of Nevarro hostage leading to The Mandalorians saving the day in Episode 3 once The Mandalorian takes his special bath in the caves of Mandalore. I'm pretty sure we see Mandalorians on Nevarro city in the trailer taking out pirate so that all makes sense now. Episode 1: Set up after 2 years of adventures (New Mando Enclave, Grogu seeing the Purrgil, Nevarro development, Return of IG-11, Conflict with Pirates etc) Episode 2: Fixing IG-11 and exploring Mandalore (Bo-Katan could come with us as well) Episode 3: Pirates take Nevarro hostage with there Battle Ship leading to a conflict between the Pirates and the Mandalorians (Could Bo-Katan call back her stolen fleet?)
Disney doesn't understand that good storytelling needs a beginning, a middle and (importantly) an end. Otherwise it's effectively Live-Service television and we know how that's working out for the games industry
This is a perfect beginning for the series as it sets up all the plot points. Redemption, IG-11, Pirates and in the future Retaking Mandalore from Moff Gideon
@@a_agadir3964 all the important plot points were set up on the boba fett episodes (mandalore, his redemption and the return of grogu). If you didn't watch Boba Fett this is a confusing start to season 3 and if you did the episode is just spinning its wheels going over the same plot points. So not good either way.
I swear after Mando Season 2 I believed the fan theories about an internal civil war going on at Lucasfilm between Kennedy and co. vs. Jon and Dave. I was convinced with Luke being there they were setting up the world between worlds for Ahsoka to use and she was going to reset the events of the Sequel Trilogy so it never happened and Luke gets a proper chance to be himself again. After that finale I almost believed there was hope to salvage the franchise. And then Kennedy fired Gina Carano....
This series is doing a real good job of removing any of the mystique or swag that made Mandalorians cool in the first place. That scene on the beach was beyond corny.
But Alex can be a little extra some time, like he truly pissed me off in the HOTD finale review, Angry and Other Joe are singing the praises of a truly AMAZING finale and an amazing show and Alex is just centred on why would Rhaenyra bless her children with prayers and how she's not religious, critisism for the sake of showing off
I think not having a ending plan is fine if you are a episodic show, OG Magnum PI went for like 8 seasons or something and it always rocked. But if you are going to have a story arc you kind of need a plan.
I am sure there is very much an end plan, but they have other plans that tie into Mando. For awhile now they have been hinting at connected MCU style situation with shows branching off from Mando all leadhing up to a big event. Hints have already been dropped, its all a matter if fans were paying attention.
Nah it’s a bad idea… you set up characters and give them a destination - then admit you have no idea where it’s going? The writers even admitted they watched reaction channels and thought they had better ideas than what they had planned 💀
That opening turtle-gator ‘battle’ made me lol…when they shot their cables into it like it wouldn’t immediately be able to throw them. I kept thinking ‘this isn’t a stand and battle moment, it’s a run away as fast as possible moment’
None of them threw bombs into the alligator's mouth or planted it onto the neck or belly. Instead, they all planted it on the hard upper shell that clearly won't do shit. And these are supposed to be the best bounty hunters?!
The first fight was so so stupid…. They literally attach explosives to its armoured back… and then try to pull it… nobody fires a rocket into its mouth…
After watching Andor, the flaws of The Mandalorian really start to show. Now it feels like a glorified Disney Star Wars thrill ride with a barebones plot and action figures for characters.
Totally agree, I feel like Andor really opened my eyes to what Star Wars shows should be in terms of quality in the story and visuals and now I can really see the flaws in Disney shows like the Mandalorian and it’s side quest story nature
Absolutely, dancingvalkyrie! We need the lot of you to articulate, why this is bad and Andor is good. However feeble the fight against the house of Mickey Mouse may be.
Word on the street is Kennedy convinced the marketing department to bring Grogu back in(for merchandise) instead of having him train with Luke, which messed with Favreau's plans for the direction of the show for something more serious.
This episode felt like a setup for the goal of Mando regaining his honor. But the real issue I have is that I fear that this whole season is gonna be set up for him being able to accomplish the goal without him actually accomplishing it. And I can't help but feel that this episode is just a prelude of that happening.
Yeah it's going to be some kind of lesson for both sides and himself. Like he already had his family which is grogu and co he's picked up through his adventures. It's bothersome there's no larger than life looming danger feel to the show or actual scary and intimidating villain yet. Really there hasn't been a good powerful scary villain in all of Disney star wars besides maybe in the cartoons which is really sad to say. Ben and snoke could have been but we're written overall terribly and ended up a joke.😅
No I think this season is going to be him coming to terms with accepting the role of wielding the Darksaber. I believe this is leading to him becoming the leader of Mandalore. Which will make him a natural target for a big blue bad with red eyes...
@@thereverseeffect7269 those plot lines were already set up, what was new here we haven't seen? We saw Bo katann who did nothing? This season should focus on mandalore, what the planet is like, showing some horrific creatures or something that has been hidden but is revealed due to the glassing etc so much could be done becoming more focused on THE MANDALORIAN, the name of the show

@Paran01ac Oh I mainly just pirate it and watch it with my Mother who is somehow entertained. Also, for however much i like Invincible that has to be peak goyslop. Ya got like 30 tiny hats working on that production with Seth Rogan as the executive producer and cowriter
If they didn't try to revive IG-11 haphazardly in the first place and took him straight to the technicians, we might have saved ourselves some fluff. Din basically showed up, ruined the town statue, broke the part he needed, and now has to go on an episode or two of finding the replacement. Also if the technicians were able to repair IG, why didnt they just do that in the first place instead of making him a goddamn statue?? IG was already dead in S1E1 (one blaster shot to the head by Din) and rebuilt for the S1 finale.
You know those parts of an open world RPG where you go from place to place in the hub, collecting side quests before setting off on the main mission? That's what this episode felt like. 6/10 for me.
when I saw the scene with the Mandalorians and the baptism I thought it was the past, then with the arrival of Din Djarin I wondered, are those other cells members of the cult that have reunited or are they new? After seeing the scene with Bo Katan I think they are part of the army that she was assembling and that after knowing that a Child of the Watch has the black sword, they joined the cult
Can't say I am to thrilled for Bounty Hunter baby sitter. I can only look at the bug eyed child so many times. Should have sent the runt off to get trained and focused on something edgy.
A ‘just average’ episode for the opening chapter of such a massive, extremely highly anticipated season is in a way almost more frustrating than just an overall bad episode. I totally understand the need for setup, but they could have done several things to tighten it. Even Mando himself felt like a plot device specifically meant for exposition and rehashing things we already know with all his very useless lines pointing out the obvious. Pacing was off. Way too short of an episode in general. We’ve already seen just about almost literally the exact same scene we saw in The Book of Boba Fett as we got here in the opening of this episode directly after the title card where he visits the Armorer once again and she tells him the only way to redeem himself as a Mandalorian is to bathe in the springs of the mines beneath the surface of Mandalore, blah blah blah. It’s whatever, just a bit aggravating that Disney never seems to learn their lesson from mistakes they’ve made in the past and time and time again continue to make those same exact mistakes, despite all the complaints from the majority of the audience! They either just don’t care to listen, or they have heard the pushback, but it means seemingly nothing to them… 🤦♂️ 😒 Pretty generous 7/10, only because I have faith things will pick up very quickly soon enough and get very tense/exciting in no time at all. I will say that I was entertained throughout most of the episode though, of course, just not quite thoroughly satisfied enough as I wanted to be or was expecting, that’s all! ✌🏼
Yeah not knowing where a Series is going to end, is how all the CW Shows felt like. They had an Idea in seasons 1 or 2 in Shows.. but then if it takes off they lose their way..
This was the first episode where I was thinking “hm that was weird” throughout most of the episode. They should’ve saved the boba episodes that had mando in them. Cause those were actually quite important to the story and were actually good.
Yes, I agree with you. This episode was decent. The action was fun. The visuals were good but it did feel like a little kids show and rushed. I want more serious tone for the Mandalorian just like in season one. And just like in those two episodes of Boba Fett, where the Mandalorian appeared those two episodes were so good. Anyways, I’m glad we have Mandalorian back and baby Yoda.
Agreed, but this episode doesn't bound well for upcoming season, meaning that it's not there. Because usually first episode is the most important episode of entire season. It's hook and bait episode. That leads to epic mid season finale and thrilling even more epic season finale. If you don't get people hooked In first episode it doesn't bold well, and this Mandalorian episode Didn't hook up.
The reason that he needs IG 11 is because he trusts it because he has seen his face - remember in the season one finale. The show has establish that Din doesn’t trust droids.
So IG-11 has blaster resistant armour that why Mando's blaster fire didn't work. Also Mando wanted IG-11 because Mando doesn't trust droids but IG-11 earned his trust. Rewatch season 1 and it will refresh your memory
Just like what a lot of people are saying, it was an okay season premiere that followed a stupid three episode arc in BoBF that rendered Season 2's main objective pointless. Honestly, I would've liked if Mando went on his own adventures without Grogu. It's not like he has a point in this series anymore. He now only exists for cuteness points and comic relief.
I too had issue with the episode lengths back in Season 1. But after a while I realized...Dave Filoni is involved. The guy who gave us hundreds of episodes of the animated shows. Emphasis on "animated shows" which are written to be 23-ish minutes long. I think Mandalorian is written (plot-wise) as an animated series/anime production first, and everything else second. With the occasional longer episode to move things along.
Andor: Character-driven plot that motivates eventual action scenes out of character choices. Mandalorian: Action-driven plot that simply forces characters into action scenes.
I’m not sure if I’d call it cheap, but the rest of Star Wars certainly feels juvenile after seeing the extremely mature and complex storytelling of Andor. Andor was made primarily for adults, whereas the rest of the saga is for everyone which unfortunately makes it feel less intelligent by comparison =|
Cara Dune's character was written into a different show ("Rangers of the New Republic") they were planning, unsure if it was canceled or still on, though.
But the only thing that didn't make sense to me is why did the Kid's helmet make the "sealed" or "activation" sound as if it got hooked into something, when the kid did not have his armor on. I always thought the helmets make the sound to seal off the atmosphere or something. And yea, the kids hair thing was just silly.
You know what's bullshit? They literally start the ep with essentially a baptism for a new Foundling kid in water... somehow that water is not good enough to wash Mando of his sins that he has to go all the way to Mandalore to do it
The thing I didnt get is, mando only trusts ig 88 and no other droids but ig 88's memory core is broken and needs replacing, so it wont be the same ig 88 when they replace it. So why not get a different droid? Unless im misunderaranding oflr they have his data backed up somewhere.
Haven’t seen it, but I saw clips in another review. Damn TLOU has spoiled me when it comes to Pedro Pascal, because I don’t think Mando lives up to his Joel.
I thought it looked cool on my TV; I'm just really impressed by TV show sets and effects these days versus when I was younger, especially being able to watch shows on larger flat screen TVs versus the much smaller square shape TVs when I was a kid.
It was an OK episode but so hated how bad they nerfed the blasters. In A New Hope blaster bolts were leaving craters in the wall, but against an animal they were just being flashlights
Grogu is a worst thing happens to this show. Because he is famous they can't just get rid of him .... Give me normal bounty hunter story's , not kids crap . Second season was shit now it's gets even worse .
That “we don’t have a finale” part has me worried… Kinda figured that Mando would end up being the next mandalore when I saw the dark saber in S1, but Grogu is the wildcard. Imagine a mandalorian version of Yoda who trains force sensitive races to the way of the mandalore and to the ways of the force.
That episode was a legendary opening. Honestly it kind of overshadow the rest of season 2 in many ways. It’s a self contained story about Freetown and the Tuskens with amazing cinematography and effects for the battle sequences.
"They wouldn't put all of that effort into that just for it not to come back." Remember back in Book of Boba Fett when the Hutts were teased as the main villains and then in the VERY NEXT EPISODE they just show up at Jabba's palace to say "we're sorry, here's a Rancore. Bye!" And then we never heard from them again.
The one episode of Mando that was in Boba, should've been saved as episode 1 for this season. The episode we got was short, unimportant, and included three irating sequences that beg you not to think about them. 5/10
The best way that I can summarise this episode is that it felt like a Book of Bona Fett episode, and that makes me very worried for the rest of this season and the future of Star Wars on Disney+. The Mandalorian was the diamond in the rough that kept me invested in spite of the absolute flops that Kenobi and Boba Fett were, but it looks like they could be digging their heels in rather than learning from those mistakes. It seems more and more like the badass warrior race that the Mandalorians are meant to be are just incompatible with the tone that Disney wants to chase.
Badass warriors? We're outta that. All we have left in stock is mindless fodder for casual "star wars fans". Can we interest you in more scenes of Baby Yoda so your brain can short circuit long enough to forget to cancel your Disney+ subscription?
And here we go, Mandalorian season 3 just got back to Kenobi quality levels because why tf not? I love how the first episode starts with showing how incompetent a squad of mandalorians are in the writers' perspective, so yeah, great stuff! Not even gonna talk about the fact that the water was too shallow for such a huge creature to come out of that area, you can see the creature basically coming in from underneath the shore... like wtf?! Then we get the idiotic droid revival scene, where apparently Mando is incompetent as well (must be a virus that spreads to all mandalorians and makes them weak af?) as he misses every blaster shot aimed at a droid crawling on the floor without his legs... then he goes something like "oh, this droid is too powerful, you grab the baby Yoda, let him chase you instead" - and throws the "merchandise" to the other guy... I'm telling you, Kenobi level of cringe writing... reminds me of the Leia chase scene which was literally a rip off from a Benny Hill show... just turn off your brain and enjoy the pew pew pew Then the absolute dumb dialogue with that dense pirate guy, who doesn't understand he can't find drinks in that building anymore... just wow! This felt so weak to me and it tells they lost interest in this or they're just that incompetent nowadays... Or maybe Kathleen wants to prove fans the success of the first 2 seasons was a lucky thing and was not deliberate
Watching the beginning of the episode I thought it was a flash back of when Mando got his helmet and it shattered that thought when I saw the Naboo fighter
"Goodbye. Din Djarin." Did...did that sound REALLY sinister to anyone else or just me? Like it feels like she's luring him into a trap because WE ALL KNOW how much she fckin HATES the Death Watch and anyone in it. Man...Good to be back in a galaxy far far away.
@@TheRibottoStudios But Mando didn't do anything to her in HIS cult, the only thing he did was take the dark saber which he didn't want to begin with... So I see no reason why she would be upset unless she is still salty about the darksaber keeping the same stupid traditions that Djarin is keeping with his "cult" makes her seem kinda hypocritical.
@@Dragonk116 that's a fair argument. I think all in all, she mostly sees Din at this point as a burden, to her, she just wants him out of her way. She wants to unite Mandalore, but would she be willing to do that under Din Djarin? I think they're setting her up to be an antagonist in this season. Which isn't a VILLAIN; it's just an opposing force for the protagonist. And it would be a BRILLIANT play.
Yeah, there were plenty of dumb moments but I still had fun with it, had to switch off my brain a bit, but just to clear up some things about the IG droid... Mando has trust issues with droids and said many times he doesn't like them, so wanting the one droid he did put his trust in to help makes sense imo. And he wasn't missing his shots when shooting him, they where hitting, just not doing much damage.
Yeah, this episode just felt like a who's who in Mando, really has no direction of where this season is heading. Hopefully it shows in the next episode. I give it a 6
The thing to know about the turtle gator fight I'd that the mandalorians are living with the bare minimum, and their weapons aren't exactly suited to fight something that big. They would need other weapons that they simply don't have. All things considered, they handled it well enough b4 mando showed up with air support. But bringing back IG-11 was kinda useless until the final scenes.
Clone Wars had that problem as well. When Toto 360 voiced by Seth Green self destructed in one episode several episodes or a season later he is back good as new.
Different problem. Clone Wars had their episodes in different times in the war, so the timeline for it was scattered around until the later seasons. Mando doesn't have that problem, it's just bad writing.
Hm, for IG, hm didn't the Mandalorian not trust Droids in season 1 and IG was the only one he did trust and remove the helmet for too to get his injuries taken care of? So there could be some character trait being consistent so not too bad in that regard.
The whole episode was trying to be member-berries for season 1, but at the same time its as if the writers never watched season 1. In season 1, Mando destroys the droid with one shot when it attempts to move on Grogu. But here, he shoots it over and over to zero effect. In season 1, the droid self destructs with the sole purpose of keeping itself from being able to be salvaged. But here it turns out most of him was salvageable after all. In season 1, the mandolorians are showcased as an epic group of capable fighters. But here they are portrayed as incompetent for so many reasons. In season 1, Greef Karga learns that it is too easy for his town to be taken over by a hostile force and he requests for Mando's help in rebuilding/protecting. But here, we see that he had not invested in security at all. And those are just the contradictions with season 1; there are also the problems that Joe, OJ, and Alex bring up. Overall, I'm very scared for the future episodes.
How is it an average show? This episode might have been average television but there are a lot of better episodes throughout the series I don't think it's as good as Andor though
@@akmal94ibrahim you don't have to compare to shows all the time, thats like comparing The Godfather to every movie in existence, also theres a reason Andor flopped and Mando didn't just sayin...
Agreed they even had to repeat the armourers exact dialogue from that episode, just to remind me people.

Because bad writing
So people can buy its toys
why does he need IG-11 specifically? just get another ig robot
He Fucking died in LAVA too like the Terminator, his steel should’ve been absolutely melted into nothingness. Wtf. Who wrote this?

My real fear is that this season is gonna mostly be the setup for him accomplishing that goal with the season ending with him finally being ready to accomplish the goal and not him actually accomplishing it.
i just "second screened" it while browsing other shit and didn't feel like i missed anything.
Isn’t that like every mango episode
@Varonvan lol, yea, pretty much. Really complaining about it now is just having "nostalgia goggles" for the first 2 seasons
It’s just Disney trying to sell more merchandise. Damn the story.
They clearly wanted them to be that way so they could sell them in stores and they'll look identical.
Imagine nitpicking a helmet you might as well be complaining about bricks and screws being in andor
The cave opening was too big for that to help them. That's like fish putting themselves into a barrel to be shot.
@@vane909090 now we know how moff Gideon's remnant wiped them out on Nevarro.

After Andor it’s getting increasingly annoying to see them endlessly bringing back dead characters and forcing cameos that make the galaxy feel tiny.
They followed her cos they believed she could get the saber and unite the Mandalorians, she failed so they drifted away
If I’m not mistaken wasn’t she straight up granted the dark saber in Rebels? Im so confused.
She’ll likely challenge him later though.
What frustrated me most was them bringing back IG-11. After seeing Andor it’s really starting to get frustrating when character deaths aren’t taken seriously.

Most of the outdoor shots look so fucking cheap, just like Book of Boba Fett
I know they brought Grogu back in Boba Fett, but like this season should have been moving on with the story and getting Grogu back in the next season

I think not having a ending plan is fine if you are a episodic show, OG Magnum PI went for like 8 seasons or something and it always rocked. But if you are going to have a story arc you kind of need a plan.
There's a difference between a character not knowing the end plan and they're not being no end plan.
I am sure there is very much an end plan, but they have other plans that tie into Mando. For awhile now they have been hinting at connected MCU style situation with shows branching off from Mando all leadhing up to a big event. Hints have already been dropped, its all a matter if fans were paying attention.

Wouldn't be surprised if that is true. I'm sure reviving IG-11 is also purely for fanservice and memberberries

The episode “The Return of the Mandalorian” in Boba Fett should’ve been the premiere episode of this season.
Thought the turtle attack was a flashback of our mando when he became a mandalorian... But then he showed up and saved the day.
Starting off the season with rushed filler, good job Disney 👏🏼👏🏼
How is it filler if it sets up multiple plot points?
Don't just throw around words if you dont know what they mean
@@thereverseeffect7269 those plot lines were already set up, what was new here we haven't seen? I liked seeing navarro but we knew it was improving already and it felt like the only reason we got it was to retcon a fired actor, we already knew he was going to mandalore but he had to go back to the armourer to tell her he was going to go there again? We saw Bo katann who did nothing? This season should focus on mandalore, what the planet is like, showing some horrific creatures or something that has been hidden but is revealed due to the glassing etc so much could be done becoming more focused on THE MANDALORIAN, the name of the show
The whole show is a filler. People just realize it now

4:23-15:30 & 16:48-19:39 & 22:45-26:12 *Alex, AJ and OJ that’s what I was feeling about this episode.* 💪🏽
This episode for me is a 5/10.
They either just don’t care to listen, or they have heard the pushback, but it means seemingly nothing to them… 🤦♂️ 😒
Pretty generous 7/10, only because I have faith things will pick up very quickly soon enough and get very tense/exciting in no time at all.
This episode was absurdly short. Could’ve definitely added at least 10 minutes to this
This was the first episode where I was thinking “hm that was weird” throughout most of the episode. They should’ve saved the boba episodes that had mando in them. Cause those were actually quite important to the story and were actually good.
I suspect the Mando episode was shoehorned into Boba Fett after/when they realised that they had a steaming turd on their hands.
Is the opening kid the worst casting in history? Who’s son was that😂😂😂
Kid was fine. Worst casting in history goes to the kid from Black Adam though. He was terrible.
Whats wromg with the kid lol?
The reason that he needs IG 11 is because he trusts it because he has seen his face - remember in the season one finale. The show has establish that Din doesn’t trust droids.
So IG-11 has blaster resistant armour that why Mando's blaster fire didn't work. Also Mando wanted IG-11 because Mando doesn't trust droids but IG-11 earned his trust. Rewatch season 1 and it will refresh your memory
If you watch The Last of Us it explains why Mando can't properly aim and shoot at the droid.
I’m waiting till next week as a small protest to this ridiculously short season opening…
I hope we get a Mando game covering a whole season
No , we won’t
I think if we ever get a Mando game (which sadly we probably won’t) it’ll wait until the whole show is over which will take years
No we shouldn't, this show has trash writing and it's lazy on almost all fronts, this would be another garbage game made by EA.

Andor: Character-driven plot that motivates eventual action scenes out of character choices.
Mandalorian: Action-driven plot that simply forces characters into action scenes.
After the quality writing of andor, I’m amazed how CHEAP this feels minus the cgi.
Andor was NOT good.
But yes this felt like I was watching a fan cosplay honestly.
@@samuelketner1391 why do you say that? Just wondering your thought process, I’ve not heard too many criticisms of andor up to this point
Yes, this first episode was meh, felt like a Saturday morning cartoon (sus writing) with nice CGI. And also Andor was awesome!
@@samuelketner1391 Andor was the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Disney acquired the IP
Cara Dune's character was written into a different show ("Rangers of the New Republic") they were planning, unsure if it was canceled or still on, though.
Andor was soooo good that it makes this show feel like a very very beautiful Saturday morning cartoon. Hope it gets better.
They literally start the ep with essentially a baptism for a new Foundling kid in water... somehow that water is not good enough to wash Mando of his sins that he has to go all the way to Mandalore to do it
Religions have a lot of stupid customs. It made sense if you think about it that way.
I wish the writers for Andor were heading up the Mandalorian
It was an OK episode but so hated how bad they nerfed the blasters. In A New Hope blaster bolts were leaving craters in the wall, but against an animal they were just being flashlights
Grogu is a worst thing happens to this show. Because he is famous they can't just get rid of him .... Give me normal bounty hunter story's , not kids crap . Second season was shit now it's gets even worse .
That “we don’t have a finale” part has me worried…
Kinda figured that Mando would end up being the next mandalore when I saw the dark saber in S1, but Grogu is the wildcard. Imagine a mandalorian version of Yoda who trains force sensitive races to the way of the mandalore and to the ways of the force.
A decent opener and way of easing back into the Mandalorian, but nowhere near the level of Chapter 9: The Marshal as a season premiere

I loved the tone season 1 set. I wish they kept it like that
This episode was closer to season 1 than 2. He was basically doing side quests.
When the Mandalorian says: "I cant do this mission without Cara Dune." Total goosebumps.
I'm telling you, Kenobi level of cringe writing... reminds me of the Leia chase scene which was literally a rip off from a Benny Hill show... just turn off your brain and enjoy the pew pew pew
Then the absolute dumb dialogue with that dense pirate guy, who doesn't understand he can't find drinks in that building anymore... just wow!
This felt so weak to me and it tells they lost interest in this or they're just that incompetent nowadays... Or maybe Kathleen wants to prove fans the success of the first 2 seasons was a lucky thing and was not deliberate
Not even got to the seaweed pirate who cornered Mando in space until he just decides to leave ig
Watching the beginning of the episode I thought it was a flash back of when Mando got his helmet and it shattered that thought when I saw the Naboo fighter
"Goodbye. Din Djarin."
Did...did that sound REALLY sinister to anyone else or just me? Like it feels like she's luring him into a trap because WE ALL KNOW how much she fckin HATES the Death Watch and anyone in it. Man...Good to be back in a galaxy far far away.
Nah she doesn't hate him, just the Death Watch instead.
@@Dragonk116 She associates him as PART of it. "YOUR cult." she says. That kind of hate is hard to let go.
You're reading way too much into a shit script.
I’m with Alex on this one ☝🏾
I feel like people are way too forgiving to this average show because the lead character looks cool and the music is amazing.
100%. Its baffling how this painfully bland show has attracted such praise.
