  • Here starts the new Photographing The World Series and we kick off with the holy Istanbul!
This video was long due, but I came back from Istanbul with 6+ hours of footage and almost 1Tb of photos... all over the place. I was to give you a full length docu-vlog of about 20-25 minutes. But then I thought a small pills format would have been much more palatable (pun intended).
So here is the first episode of the series. At the moment I know of at least 6 episodes but there is material for more, so make sure you subscribe and not miss anything!
This video is a short introduction but contains some of my favourite photos. I went to Haghia Sophia (Ayasofya) early in the morning to catch the beautiful light making its way through the windows. And I was able to capture some of those perfect light beams to recognise in my street photography style... Absolutely gorgeous.
Speaking of photos, This series has a perfect companion in a photo zine I am releasing in October 2022. You can grab yours now with an early bird discount and see the high-res images, read the stories and follow along this series as it unfolds. All infos are in the zine page on my website:
    fabienb.blog/i...
Next episode will come shortly and feature the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Bazaar as well as the areas around. Probably the biggest "pill" in the series so don't miss out!
See you all in the next episode!
    Cheers.
Wait, before I forget: I also mention my NOIR presets here in the video... If you look for beautiful black and white conversions, these will surely please you:

Wow, 😍another beautiful portrait shots you took in Istanbul. Again, love most of the warm/neutral colors in your photos and videos. This might be too much to ask, but would you mind taking some more street portrait shots with Samyang 12mm f2 AF fuji? That would be very much appreciated. :) By the way, love the background music you used here. What is the title of the music? Thanks 😍

      MERCI!!! :)
OK, so first the music. All the music I use comes from Epidemic Sound and there is a link at the end of every video description ;) The songs I used here are from a band (or artist) called Sight Of Wonders.
The 12mm for Street Portraits is a tough task but I can try. You need to get very close with such a wide angle lens and not many people may be comfortable with that. We'll see, but it's noted. :)

this is AMAZINGABIT! loved the photographs especially.
we had a guardian cat in Hagia Sophia, named Gli (died recently tho), I wish you could had a chance to capture her as well.
but there's one thing bothering me, most of the people shown in the video are either tourists on a religious vacation or people living in the "religious side" of Istanbul (which is called the Historical Peninsula). I, as one of the residents of Istanbul, am so sick of seeing those turbans and scarfs in every video about Istanbul, which represents maybe 15% of the people actually living here (obviously excluding the recent immigration frenzy). Let me know when you're back here, so I can introduce you with the "living" side of Istanbul :)
    DUccasional Troll out!

Thank you! And of course I'll be in touch when I'm back :)
As I explained at 1:35, I did not want to be disrespectful to anyone praying in Hagia Sophia (or any mosque), particularly during Ramadan. I did not want to be the kind of ignorant tourist that doesn't care, walks in with their shoes on and points the camera to anything. Had I been a local myself, and a regular, I could have felt some rights to take photos in my own turf but here I didn't want to invade anyone's sacred space.
It's the only video of the series where you can see tourists (maybe 1 or 2 in the Balat episode but even there I'm not sure) and this is the reason why.
