@@RNTV Yes, you should do the whole KEXP 2018, make sure 2018, mini concert, it is a masterpiece, different from Haik, but still, it is a absolutely top shelf performance, her and her whole band are on fire at this show. It's only about 30 minutes long.

She is the true meaning of an artist. Every performance is a special edition. And Silja Sol, her former backup singer is missed by all of us. She is a super talent as well. And a Churchyard is a Graveyard. Down below gave you the meaning of the song.

It's clear that Silja Sol was a valuable addition to her performances, and it's great to know that she's also a talented artist in her own right.

Aurora does like to be vague with her explanations of her lyrics, leaving the meaning to the interpretation of the listener. That said, she does give clues:-
In an interview, Aurora said about the song:
"Churchyard is just like the concept of someone bigger using their power in the wrong way, that happens all the time in politics, with children, women. I wanted the songs to feel empowering - like at the end of 'Churchyard', she comes back to haunt him."

Aurora's three performances at The Current should be taken together. This is #3. And yes, a churchyard = a graveyard. Scandinavian culture was very tribal (think: Vikings), so Aurora's musical allusions are to that heritage.

I'll simply echo what others have said about KEXP Iceland 2018. It's not only my favorite performance of Churchyard, but one of my favorite vocal performances from her, period.

Her backup singer's name is Silja Sol (Sil-ya Soul). She was a perfect foil for Aurora's voice. She has since moved on to work on her own career. This is certainly about a violent relationship. The word "churchyard" absolutely means "graveyard" here. Aurora likes writing songs about complicated and tragic relationships: "Churchyard", "It Happened Quiet", "A Dangerous Thing", even "Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)", although "Murder Song" is about a man who kills his loved one for a sense of "mercy", rather than killing out of violence and anger. Aurora once said somewhere that the chanting in the song was a spell, or a curse, to bring back her ghost to haunt him. Great reaction, as always!

Aurora always says that some of her songs do have a specific meaning to them, but she wants them to be open to interpretation to the individual. When I first heard churchyard I immediately connected it to how I felt being bullied for being gay, especially considering a lot of the negative opinions others had about me stemmed from devotion to religion, and as I’m sure a lot of other lgbtq+ people can relate, I have been told many times to “go to the churchyard” both in the graveyard sense and in the sense that I’ve been told that I need to repent in some way for who I am, which even when said with good intentions stings.

lol.....I haven't even scrolled down to read the comments yet, but I already know what they'll say.....
They'll say you _should_ have done the KEXP Iceland performance for this particular song.
But......that for "It Happened Quiet" THE definitive version....is from this same performance at The Current.
And tbh....that's not wrong lol. Everyone obviously has their personal favorites, but there's certain performances that are SO good, it seems most of us can agree on this or that version being the definitive one.
For what it's worth.....here's a good list of specific songs/performances, that I think _most_ Aurora fans would approve lol...
    - Lucky, Winter Bird, Little Boy in the Grass, Under Stars @ Nidarosdomen (honestly....just that entire concert!)
    - Under the Water, Black Water Lillies, I Went Too Far @ The Honda Stage
    - It Happened Quiet @ The Current
    - All is Soft Inside, Churchyard @ KEXP Iceland
    - Animal @ KEXP Seattle
    - A Different Kind of Human @ Christine's Radio (The Somewhere Else Festival version is worth watching too!)
    - Infections of a Different Kind @ HAIK
    - Soulless Creatures @ Live with the Bergen Orchestra
    - The Woman I Am, Heathens @ VEVO Live (The Gullruten version of The Woman I Am is aesthetically spectacular too)
    - Murder Song @ The Nobel Peace Concert
Needless to say.....I could go on and on. This list isn't exhaustive....but these are definitely most of the top-tier Aurora performances. And that's not even counting the covers....of which there's many brilliant performances.
    Yes, I'm obsessed. ;P
I would definitely recommend reacting to the entire Nidarosdomen concert, kinda like you did for HAIK.
For one thing, it was put out by NRK, so there's no copyright issue to worry about. And second, it's hands down THE best Aurora concert ever filmed. It's basically the holy grail of her output.

We would love to have like an expert on each artist we cover to give us the low down before we react. We care a lot about the viewer experience and respecting the artist we are reacting to. We want to due them justice to anyone new we may be introducing for the first time and to the person who requested it.
