- Joe Longthorne appeared at the world’s greatest venues during his career, a song stylist, the singer’s singer, in the vein of Sinatra and Bennett to name just a few, his vocal talents legendary and he was in that rare class of performer who can make a stage their own. Joe added to his CV by performing at The IndigO2 within the O2Arena, in the heart of London’s Docklands. The concert was many months in the planning and took place one Sunday night in August 2010. Joe’s huge army of fans travelled from all over the country to attend this one off special evening of music and laughter from a hugely talented and very unique entertainer, Britain’s best.
Joe’s performance lasted a tad under two hours with a wealth of his finest songs and breathtaking impressions of the world’s greats, his signature impression of Dame Shirley Bassey, together with Sinatra, Presley, Bennett, Monro, Tom Jones, Diamond and Manilow,Newley and Davis, the list went on and on. His wonderful and highly amusing take on Dickinson’s Deal “ with Joe becoming not only David Dickinson but also Ian Towney and a couple of prospective customers was a big hit with everyone. The concert closed with an outstanding and emotional rendition of “Somewhere” performed as only Joe can, standing tall and proud at the microphone, the whole room on their feet stood completely engrossed in the song, many moved to tears by the power and genius of Joe’s performance. R.I.P Joe Longthorne... A truly wonderful person with a phenomenal voice that i dont think anyone will come close to bettering. I saw him in numerous concerts over the years and every one was incredible. I still listen to Our Joe every day❤
Poor Joe, he had such much more to give.
what a fantastic talent he shared with the many
Incredible performer..One of the best voices of all time..Rest easy Joe..Sorely missed❤
Joe was an exceptional talent, and a very kind and gentle man. I had the good fortune to see him live, albeit at the end of his life, and the love and affection his audience had for him, and him in return, was palpable!
Health problems meant that Joe never really ascended to the heights he should have.
Personally, whilst he fitted in very well with light entertainment royalty like Ken Dodd and Des O'Connor, he did sadly get seen as a mainstream entertainer who had a few hits, and was unfairly viewed as a novelty performer rather than a straight professional one.
Also he was a proud Romani & said that it was where he got his musical talent
RIP Joe
Special person RIP
