I used one of these mills to mill some big tuart logs which is even harder and heavier than redgum-around 1100kg/cubic metre dry.So it sinks in water when dry. It did a great job and I made some great furniture from those logs.
I love how the armchair self proclaimed Pseudo experts troll you tube just looking for something to "correct" . Get a job . GREAT VIDEO and awesome mill
Hi banjoboy421 and others, thanks for watching. Yes it is Red gum e. camaldulensis. Very heavy and yes the guys moving the posts were glad the sticks were only 1.8m long. If you like the look of the timber have a look at the second vid in this series where we cut a nice looking slab.
hello, recipio, the lucas mill that wranglerstar has does 10", this one is a 6" or 8" model, they can do a single cut but this is hard wood and is nicer to the equipment if doing it in 2 cuts same as using your other wood working tools. lucas currently does up to 10" cut, you can flip the powerhead around like they show on youtube to do a 20" cut. peter piper, all wood warps, if you want something that does not warp use steel bernhard, the camera person will find out he is too close when he gets hit by a piece of wood upside the head. i have a 30 hp 10" cut lucas. best mill for the money.
When Rhodesia fell into unskilled, unjust hands, my wife and her extended family came to America. It has been a long and lovely relationship. In all this time, NEVER have they spoken of anything, here or back home, in metric terms. They did have to adjust to US liquid measurements & clothing sizes. But very little else. No need for it; no desire either.
The small print says that people without eye and ear protection need to stay 20' back. Can't see the person with the camera, but they probably had PPE.
Good question. I think that when the blade is in the vertical position there is a bit more weight behind the cutter and the engine. However with the blade in the horizontal position the geometry is a little different so the cutter and the engine struggle a bit to do a full depth cut. So it is easier to just take 2 bites at the cut rather than stress the machine.
Because the motor is underpowered for this wood. A Lucas mill is quite capable of a 6 x 6 cut through seasoned wood with a decent motor. This baby ain't powered enough.
@@thedolphin5428 Pretty sure there are two HP rating for the 6 inch cut one. I can not recall what they are, yet I do know they have them cheaper for the smaller motor and more for the bigger one.
@@kameljoe21 Your misprint -- 2 HP wouldn't cut bark! And yes, there are 15, 18, 22, 23, 28, 35 HP motors available for different sized blades and power vs speed of cut ... and budgets. The owner (above) indirectly admits to his own under-powered machine "... 2 cuts is easier than 1". It depends what you mainly need it for cutting. Fyi, seasoned Australian hardwoods are the toughest in the world. Some are F57 !!!. Lol, North Americans and Europeans are spolied with all their pines and spruces and cedar softwood, etc. I ran a 22HP Briggs motor on my swingsaw with a 600mm blade and could cut only a 100mm ( 4") bite per pass. Ya gotta go real slow and push real hard on seasoned hardwoods.
@@forestfloorenterprises2137 One explanation for the weaker power on a horizontal cut is that the timber is slightly binding by either weight or grain twist on the blade if trying to cut 6" in one horizontal cut. To avoid this, pause a moment after leaving the starting end to wack a wedge into the side opening of the horizontal cut before travelling on. If boards are very long, several side wedges along the horizontal cut prevents blade friction. Remove wedges as you cut backwards (or leave them in place).
If you go to there web site it will show you there models ,be no reason why you couldnt cut a 10. “ beam if you cut it flat .but you would have to cut it from 2 sides.
They will do the size of the saw vertically and horizontally. So a 6" model will do 6x6 (150mmx150mm), 8" 8x8 etc. I have the 10" and can do 250mmx250mm posts. They are heavy though when done in Australian Hardwoods! Awesome Machines ruclips.net/video/uxx0MGypktU/видео.html

@@samkom33 You completely misread the poster's question and my reply to him. The question was "can THIS cut a 12" board?" Answer, no. THIS 6" cut Lucas rotary blade swing saw cannot cut a 12" board. It is NOT a reversible swing saw (like the Peterson, which CAN cut 6" to the left and then 6" to the right, thus making a 12" cut). I am fully aware that one can buy a chain sawing slabbing ATTACHMENT for all Lucas Mills which, of course, will cut far wider boards, but THAT ATTACHMENT IS NOT THIS saw rig shown here. So no, THIS machine in the video CANNOT cut a 12" board without spending thousands more for the chain mill attachment. So next time, be more precise before "correcting" someone who knows what they are talking about.

@@samkom33 .... which is exactly what I said. And ... do you know how hard and time consuming it is to turn a 200 - 400kg hardwood log around for the second cut, OR to dismount the 200kg saw bench to turn it around for the second cut and to hope it lines up with the first cut. Even Lucas do not advertise their SWING SAWS as able to cut any wider than half the width of the blade. Therefore THIS 200mm diameter saw blade can only PRACTICALLY make a 160mm cut. Get real , even if you are Norwegian!

If I had to choose between a band saw and a Lucas mill, I'd go with the Lucas for cutting beams & planks.
A eucalypt species, possibly e. camaldulensis.
And yes it is hard and heavy, a man at each end of the cut off piece a necessity!
