Can't believe you've done 50 ELO reactions, Harri. That's got to be a record on RUclips, and this song is one of their best. You're right about Roy Orbison being one of Jeff's heroes - Roy was one of a number of his music heroes he got to work with before most of them passed. The others include Del Shannon, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan.
It's no coincidence some of them ended up in the Traveling Wilbury's, because that started as a joke, while working on George's Cloud Nine album, about who they would have in a fantasy supergroup, and the joke got serious when Bob Dylan's name came up and George pulled out his phone saying "I've actually got Bob's number" and called him up!
The other thing I like about this song is that not only do you know Jeff by now and the fact he would never do a standard bad salad (sad ballad) and just leave it there - it has to have an unusual bridge or a great outro, and Jeff actually gives you a clue in the lyrics when he sings about his love "fading like The Beatles on Hey Jude", so then he ends the song by fading like The Beatles on Hey Jude. Classic ELO, and you were properly moved by it. Great reaction, and well done Cosmo for the gotcha 'This Is Your Life' ambush!

Well, 50 ELO songs is a good start, but there are lots more yet unheard.
Song writing and lead vocals were not Jeff Lynn's only contributions to ELO. He also acted as producer and sound engineer. ELO put out an amazing catalog of songs, but somehow Jeff found the time to produce and engineer albums for many other bands including Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Tom Petty. Plus other "unknown" (grin) artists that were not members of the Traveling Wilburys like Brian Wilson, Brian Adams, Dave Edmunds, and Del Shannon.
Harri, hang on and enjoy the ride!

ELO was one of my favorite artists (along with the Beatles, the Eagles, Stevie Wonder, Queen ....). Jeff Lynne is STILL making beautiful music. Recently saw a special where he had put everything together so that their beautiful songs would sound EXACTLY like they did on the radio. He had the string section, some great back-up singers, etc. It really was an entire orchestra! So, you have good taste in music!

Yours is the best reaction video I’ve seen - ever. I’m 73, and I’ve loved ELO since hearing “Evil Woman.” I had - and still have- the same emotional reactions as you to their songs (mostly written by Jeff), the musicianship, Jeff’s vocals, and the strings he employs. And this song, particularly the incredible outro, is my favorite. Thanks, HarriBest, and I’m now a subscriber.

If Mr Blue Sky is the happiest song ever this is one of the saddest of lost love.!! This song is the epitome of what Jeff wanted to achieve with ELO.!! Big orchestral sound with beautiful harmonies with a big orchestral, choral and operatic finish.!!
Jeff's 2 big influences were Roy and Del Shannon followed by the Beatles.!! You have to check out Jeff/Roy collaboration 'You Got It for an uptempo number and the beautiful dreamy 'A Love So Beautiful' which according to Barbara Orbison brought a tear to Roy s eye when he heard the arrangement and production that Jeff added.!! Then possibly Roy's last song Not Alone Anymore, which has Jeff's stamp all over it.!! Finally, one of the best covers with Roy's soaring vocals and Jeff's crash, bang, wallop production of 'I Drove All Night.!!

Guvnor, I'm glad you were moved by the tribute I threw together for your 50th ELO song. It's been a fun ride, and as I said, more terrific songs from them will trickle in periodically while I'm focusing on other artists. Yes, Roy Orbison (along with The Beatles and Del Shannon) was a big influence on Jeff. And sure, I can hear some "Orbison" in this song. However, you mused that it might be an Orbison cover, and it is not, "Shangri-la", is a Jeff Lynne original. (He only recorded two covers in ELO's entire catalog..."Roll Over Beethoven", being one of them.) I thought the sublime ending of this song was the perfect way to close out your 50-song tour of ELO's 175-song catalog.

I hope you check out The Move at some point. I've been listening to them a lot lately. You might even like the band Idle Race, which Jeff Lynne was in prior to The Move.
