    I have just done this exact operation on my pt cruiser and I can confirm that the operation to remove the auto box from a cruiser is exactly the same as per this dodge neon. The only difference which I did to make it a little easier was to drop the gearbox to the floor using a chain block which means you have a lot more room under the car for working space to realign the box and fit bolts etc...great video..

    There's nothing but love coming from me for this 11 year old video. Gfs car rear main oil seal broke. Leaks like a faucet. I never get into things without you tubing it. This was literally the only video relevant. Not even the same car I have a dodge stratus. But this should be enough!

    one item to add for anyone following this procedure - as of my comment all Neons are at least 14 years old - if you are in this far to change a transmission, do yourself a favour and (mark bolts) and pull the flywheel while your in this deep, so you can Change the Rear Engine Seal for like $12 more. it is a extra fifteen minutes work and $12 that will no doubt save you from pulling the trani again soon to fix a rear engine seal leak. - just my advice!

    Thanks so much for making this! I'm doing a transmission swap on a 2000 celica and I just couldn't find out how to remove the transmission. it really helped! the nice thing for me is that there's no engine in the car, so it saves me a lot of time, haha.

    On Caravan replacement. noticed a smooth bore hole w/ mount screw hole. located on bell hosing above where trans axle meets it. It's similar to a sensor port w/o threads. Has sand oil dirt in it. I don't recall removing anything from it. noticed urs does not have it
    Have Chiltons manual have already found several mistakes things they've left out.
    TO ALL Richpin does an excellent job in this video The only thing I'd change remove the entire shift lever/dip stick ur new 1 won't come w either

    please be advised that the jack stands are in placed in the wrong location the should be placed at the lifting point on the seam of the rocker panel. also when jacking the car never jack more then 3 inches off the ground on either side its best to have 2 jack and work them with a buddy or one after the other slowly or you can twist the unibody and cause aliment problems as well as high speed stability problems

    There is no need to take the electrical connections off the starter. I just supported the starter with a zip tie after taking out the starter bolts. Also do not lower The engine any more than you have to to get the bolts out for the trans mount. You will damage the Right engine mount like I did. It is a special liquid filled mount that will cause a nasty vibration when damaged.

    Thank Heavens The Auto transmission in my Mitsubishi (KS verada fitted with the 6G72 SOHC 12 valve) had to rip it out for replacment as it had major failure the car ran fine but the bearings in the box blew in the box, easy driver side CV out (right hand drive as it should correctly be) undo the bolts, put the jack under undo the transmission mount up top slide it out while dropping it and done took me all of 40min if that to remove and 60min to re install the new one in my own home garage

    That's nice work! I like the intelligent, methodical way you worked through every step.
    Was the torque converter bolted or attached to the flywheel? I only know that the torque converter transfers power from the engine to the transmission, but I really don't know how it works.
    Thank you :)

    • @lukecheek3505
      @lukecheek3505 6 лет назад

      Yes, the torque converter is bolted to the flywheel. You can only access one bolt at a time, then turn the motor over to access the next one and so on.

    He Rich love your postings - always very well done and easy to follow.
    I realize this is an older vid but i am doing this exact job right now and would like some help:
    I have a 05 Neon in need of a new ATS - got a used one from another 05 with low mileage on it.
    I am wondering about the bolt-up of the torque converter - those four small 18mm bolts that are installed through the access plate at the bottom of the engine to transmission connection.I understand how to turn the engine from the harmonic balancing pulley bolt, but It would seem that these four bolts may only fit one way? Is there any kind of index marking i should watch for or are those four bolts equally spaced and can fit in any sequence?
    Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  5 лет назад

      What i like to do if i think there might be aligning issues is to mark the parts so they will go back together without problems.

    • @r.b.l.5841
      @r.b.l.5841 5 лет назад

      @@RichpinTv Yeah except this is a replacement so the "new" one has never been on this car until now. I marked the bolts and holes ABCD WXYZ
      Tried the first position AW and no other bolts lined up close enough to insert a bolt Then tried AX, only two lined up close enough to get bolts in , third try AY and all four bolts lined up. Seems to me there is likely only one way these all line up.
      On your comment about "no lifting point" i used an overhead hoist (after removing the hood) and i left the small trianglular bracket on the very top of the trani - this has a good sized opening right through the centre of it and my overhead chain hoist hook fit right in that hole, this location is pretty close to a balance point! I used the same trick to hoist in the "new" trani

The reason I asked is because I had mines aligned a few months back, and don't want to have to pay to get it done again lol.

  • @NeilCaulfield
    @NeilCaulfield 10 лет назад

    Maybe you can answer my question. I have a 93 dodge shadow, which unfortunately for me is a transaxle, so removing the engine is quite tricky. The Haynes service manual shows just the engine being lifted out, which leads me to believe it can be separated from the transmission before being lifted up. How far forward would I have to slide the engine toward the passenger side to get it out? or would I slide it forward, and try to reach the torque converter bolts and unbolt it and lift straight up?

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  10 лет назад

      Most automatic transaxles have a tin cover on the bottom hear the flywheel you remove to get at the converter bolts.Then you can slid the engine a little to the pass side and you can pull the engine out.
