So far I have the full OUtback Motortek crash bar/Skid plate combo, Altrider headlight, voltage regulator, and clutch guard, Barkbusters, Doubletake mirrors, Camel high fender, and Black Dog pegs, and Giant Loop Fandango tank bag installed. That is one Wikkud setup, really enjoy your content man, I have only just recently bought a pre owned but solid AT and my list of gear to get for my 2016 AT is growing significantly longer after discovering your channel..... and thats great, its one of the greatest pleasures is building something strong that you can use and enjoy fiercly!!
    I am very thankful to you re shock and fork intel, as I had a suspension 'expert' nearly convince me to go Nitron (tagging their 'lifetime warranty' clause which I must admit was a good hook) over Ohlins, but lets face it, I only listen to you when it comes to all things Africa!!
    So Its the Ohlins stx46 Adventure rear shock for the WIN!! (I assume you are running the same)
    I cant wait to fit it as my stock shock rear SAG is at 85mm dialed right the way out hard with only 90kg (rider plus gear load)....... brutal, I would imagine my springs shot and my oils gone to dishwater.... can you please comment on any specific benefits of the Ohlins Rear shock (when compared to stock or Nitrons?)
    Thanks again, I appreciate your valuable intel mate..... oh yeah, how many miles have you put on your machine?

    • @backcountryadvmoto
      @backcountryadvmoto  4 года назад

      The Ohlins rear is hands down a better shock. Its more reactive and doesnt overhear offroad like the Nitron. Just make sure that the Ohlins is tuned to you and not an off the shelf model if you want to make sure you get all you can out of it.

    Nice setup! I have mostly alt-rider. It came with lower crash bars so I figured I'd stay with that brand. Don't ride like you do by any means. This is my goal though. Did dent my skid plate enough to dent the oil filter. Guess it did its job. Thanks for the video.

    Nice travel bike. I do like the look of the Africa Twins. One thing I'm not a fan of is Ram mount mirrors. The Ram mount is heavy and adds unnecessary bulk. I've found in the past the rubber/plastic on the balls gets damaged by UV too.

    Truly enjoy your channel and you've been a big inspiration to getting off my "A" and pushing further. With that said don't take this wrong but this video leaves me with my questions then answers, mostly regarding about about investment prices.
    I've come back to the "dirt side" after about 20 years of liter Hondas and picked up a used CB500x last year. I'm wanting to pass it onto my son but this video leaves me thinking my wife is going to be "Ohhh so impressed" by me wanting to scale up to the 500's big brother.

      So lets get the elephant out of the room right now. This bike is built how I want it for my aggressive riding style. To add to that, I didnt pay retail for a lot of these mods. I am sponsored by by several of the companies that contributed to the build by either giving me the parts to try out during their R&D or at a discount in exchange for helping with R&D and to produces review videos on the performance of the said part. Yes all of the mods are impressive, but not essential to going off the highway and having a great time. Honda has made several improvements to the AT since 2018 and you can absolutely take a stock AT and hit the road on your adventures with very little customization. As far as investment price goes. If you add the cost of the bike and the cost off ALL the mods that have been done, its still cheaper than a bare bones off the show room floor 1200/1250GS especially when you start throwing parts at it you can easily hit the 30k mark quick. This bike has easily $10k less in it and id argue that its a way better off road machine the way it sits than what you get from a new german bike. Now I love the GS, and will most likely own one in a few years, but for my budget and riding style, the Honda fits all my needs. Hope that helps. Thanks for following along with the channel and welcome to the BAM community.

    Thanks for this video (and all the many others). These have been super useful in making the mods on my AT. A couple of questions if you don't mind: I believe you said in another video that you had a Li battery. Which one did you use and how does it perform? How easy was it to make it work given the weird terminal configuration on the OEM battery? Second, and more interestingly, could you do a video on the power-commander work you did? How much HP did you gain and how did you set-up the two mode switch?
    Thanks and keep the videos coming!

    • @backcountryadvmoto
      @backcountryadvmoto  4 года назад +1

      I use the Antigravity Restart battery, and it performs VERY well. I had the Shorai, and went through two of them in two years. Hatted it and it always seemed like it was under powered. The Antigravity has 90 more CCA so it starts very quickly now, and I had no issues with the terminal set up. As far as the Power Commander goes, I installed the power commander 5, and used the autotune too and power commander software to tune the bike. I set it up for a offroad raw power tune and a more mellow touring tune for the highway. It did pretty well, but then last summer I took the bike to my local Dyno shop and WOW! They were able to tweek my tunes with the power commander and im now running 107HP. The bike is nice and responsive and the power delivery is awesome. Its very usable power. I was told they could have easily gotten more out of it, but I was concerned it would affect the longevity of the motor. I am very happy with it. The Rekluse Torque drive clutch, and exhaust would be something to consider as well to allow the motor to breath better and put the power to the ground with clutch. The clutch has 6 additional plates making it very strong. Hope that helps.

      Backcountry Adventure Motorsports wow. Thanks for the detailed reply. Really appreciate it. Timely too... i was about to pull the trigger on a Shorai battery so appreciate the advice on the antigravity. With respect to the HP gain from the upgraded exhaust + power commander + dyno tuning, do you have a sense of roughly how much each component added to the overall HP boost? You picked up 10% HP from the mods. How much of that could you have gotten from changing the pipe alone? Or just the power commander? Trying to figure out the best bang for the buck. Thanks again!

    Another awesome video. I haven't had any issue with my 2017 AT as well except I just blew a rear wheel bearing and blew both front fork seals last fall....but that is to be expected with 32k+ miles and me not going east on this amazing bike

    • @backcountryadvmoto
      @backcountryadvmoto  4 года назад

      Thanks for sharing, I went though fork seals on my original forks at 5k miles, but I didnt exactly go easy on them lol. Havent had any issues with bearings yet, but I have about 12k on the wheels so I may be replacing them by the end of summer just as a preventative measure so they dont fail me on a trip.

    Thanks for putting this up. My question is about the bike itself. How has it done since you got it new. Any major issues, besides the right footpeg, motor, chassis, fuel delivery, wiring, etc. Just curious how it's holding up. Also, how many miles do you have on your AT. Thanks!

    It seems like it would be easier for you to tell which mods you DON'T have.😄 Bro, you have one ~customized~ machine. What I like - everything has a fairly valuable purpose. It's not just a bunch of farkle for the sake of having it. I really like that linkage guard on your double stand (I'm easily impressed). That's a great preventative mod, and just plain cool. I know it doesn't happen overnight, but again, you have that A.T. modified into one nice machine, and from all appearances, ready to go anywhere.
