Peter is a master at layering voices, and he layered about 120 tracks for this. Further complicating matters, Peter was in Oregon while Tim was on Grand Cayman Island. The two of them have a rich history of singing together and were once in an a cappella group together. Your next reaction should be Peter and Home Free covering U2’s Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. It was done during lockdown, and there are some surprises in it.

This is my favorite version of this song (from The Hobbit). The contrast in voices is beautiful. Peter in the higher tenor ranges & then paired with the true natural bass voice of Tim. And that last dragon's breath note is truly remarkable & how long he sustains it. Peter & Tim have collaborated on quite a few other songs & they are all beautiful. Peter is a master at layering voices. Check out "Sound Of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Greensleeves", "Fire & Rain", "Teach Your Children", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "You Can Close Your Eyes", "And So It Goes", "Blackbird", "You've Got A Friend".

Hi Jess. Another great reaction. There are now numerous Covers of this song from The Hobbit, but I love this one the most. Tim’s last note is a G1. That’s simply insane. Not a growl, but his Chest Voice. Peter is not using Falsetto but his Head Voice.🎷🙏🏼🇺🇸

Both Peter and Tim have beautiful voices with great range and Peter is a genius with arrangements and layering. Tim...is a dragon in disguise. I'm sure of it. LoL thanks for the reactions

Great reaction! Tim hit a G1 note like on a organ the deepest note. Tim has blown many speakers on stage before. Check out Tim and Peter doing Bridge Over Trouble Waters. It's fantastic!

If you know dwarves, that last note comes as no surprise. To me, the highlight of this arrangement is the ethereal choir that Peter engineered. I love the Hollens-Foust duets. Old friends with a mutual love of music and a cappella mode, their voices work so well together. Peter is a genius of layering, and has an amazing career of his own. Check him out!

That last note in Misty Mountains that Tim made was a D-1 on the music scale

Tim's last note ISN'T his lowest, but it is great that the last word is tall .

It's simply amazing that (a) Peter and Tim recorded at different times and places, and (b) every sound came from their mouths.

HAHAHA! I couldn't help but laugh at your facial expression on Tim's last "growl" because I had the very same reaction the first time I heard it. You and I also agree that it seems like a good song to go to sleep to....calmness exudes and it's like drifting downstream in a canoe.

Yeah, those low notes of Tim's are what we Home Fries call his 'dragon breath'.
I don't know how many times I've listened to that last note, but it ALWAYS amazes me how long he's able to sustain it!
If you haven't yet, check out a live version of HF's "Ain't Goin Down Til the Sun Comes Up". Tim does another great dragon breath note at the beginning!

Tim rarely blinks in this. He does stare. If you stare at him during the last note you’ll see the camera shake. Remarkable range by both of them. Peter is a master of layering notes. It’s just the two of them and it sounds like a choir at times. Such a good song! The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings would be fantasy….LOTR is wonderful. Hobbit can be fun. Btw, Peter and Tim go way back and have sung a lot together and also just put out an album of Duets. You might like Bridge Over Troubled Water, Greensleeves, And So It Goes….so many beautiful songs! Good one!😄😍

As high as Peter Hollens sang in this, he also has a solo version of this song where he goes plenty low as well. Geoff Castellucci also has a great version where he plays four of the dwarves from The Hobbit.

To know Peter better, I recommend his Commencement Address at University of Oregon. It was 10 years after his own graduation which he missed to work on his music career, where he never worked for anyone else.

massively over-produced. You know nothing of the Hobbit, nothing of such epic sci-fi series? and yet you want people to recognize you as a critic? You are having a laugh.
