Clutch master cylinder leaks on fuse blocks. Wreaked havac. Replaced cylinder and all fuses, clean with circuit board cleaner. Just received your R.E.M. in-dash yesterday. Nice. Going in with custom full instramention, LEDs, and Azzys custom gauges on a 90 RENIX. Only concern is adapter plug not waterproofed. Circuit board looks vulnerable, and although I don't get crazy off-road, it can rain like hell here. Other than that...excellent work pal. Tired of idiot-lights, and wondering what the hells going on under hood...Thanx!
The proceedure for the cable is disconnect below so you can pull in slack into the cab then after installing the cluster reconnect at the transfer case or transmission in your case. Easy peazy. Good luck
I've seen a few vids from a couple MJ owners, none of them match my interior very well, and the one I've found in a scrap yard matches mine too but was in worse shape. None of my insides are that shot though, except the seat. All the ones I see on RUclips look like rust belt specials. My 86 is a fossil and a POS but it's running nice after this summer of working on it. Rear end, valve cover, tune up, fuel pump, fuel filter. Only thing I have left is fuel filter, idle, and I think my wheels are throwing off my speedo a lil bit.
Dang Iam jealous. My 2001 instrument cluster has been eating my lunch for a few months now. I've got power to the cluster both power pins and cleaned pins and even put slight twist in pins in case it was at the cluster side conection . Fuse are tight and getting power through just fine. No gauges including odometer. Also of course my inspection sticker is expired too so this has me completely grounded for now. I've checked ground 3 times getting continuity but one night after heavy rain the gauges worked but went right back out next day. For this reason checked grounds the 3rd time. My year dosnt seem to have the actual cluster diagram but the fact that it worked perfect after heavy rain makes me think it's not the cluster itself. I've got wiring diagrams with pin outs . Scariest part is these jeeps have a lot of factory splices . Why couldn't they come up with splice connectors instead of splicing directly to a wire????? Sorry venting a little glad you got yours going. Iam just not used to getting something taken this far apart without some headway into figuring it out.
swap that cluster for the one that has rpm tach hahaha, nice to see a new video from you, keep us updated with that manche bro, greetings from mexico!!
Commented too early while still watching lol. Get you some evaporust, that stuff works great! They got the liquid and a gel type. Haven't tried the gel one but the liquid makes old rusted bolts & pieces look like brand new after a good soak. The gel you just wipe on with a brush and clean it off later and is also good from what I've seen but haven't got it yet. Evaporust is at O'Reilly's.
The tabs on the speedo cable are notorious for breaking I just put it where it's supposed to go and run electrical tape around it and it hold up pretty good
Can you send me a link for the MJ scamatics? I am having issues with my lights not working on my dash and my Tail lights not working Think it might be something similar
You might already know this, but these have a huge problem with the clutch master cylinder leaking onto the fusebox. I dealt with it on my 89 MJ by swapping the complete fuse box from a '90 automatic XJ.
Hey nick a better way to clean your contacts and safer is to use a pencil eraser it wont short out and it rubs them super clean. Just an engineer tech tip you can use in the future. Please use it in one of your videos. Cheers bud
hey nick,, when i start the engine the water temp gauge needle bounce like crazy from zero to max,, as far i see in your video, it should just go to max softly,,, you think can be a lose spring or cut spring? also the fuel gauge in your stay at max and then softly goes to actual gas level, cheers
Check the temp sensor connector, it can sometimes get lose which is probably causing the bouncing on start. Might need to crimp it a bit tighter with pliers
Depends when I can get any freakin chips! In the middle of a shortage with no estimated end in sight. I'm working to bring back some older designs but having a few debug issues right now so still no hard dates on those either. I should have a lot more time for all this in the fall and winter.
Glad to see you back
Having factory electrical schematics and guide is really helpful. I really like how you approach the troubleshooting for this issue.
Glad to have you back man ! I'm replacing my jeep's head with a Clearwater heavy duty casting head.

Yay 😁. I was wondering when you were gonna drop another video... thanks for the content man.

Oh, I'm planning on swapping in a new cluster alright, just you wait ;)
Definitely make a video ill be the first the view it

What’s the red wire hangin down on the video?

Yeah my fuse box is definitely messed up. Something to tackle one day for sure

I'll have to try that for sure!

@@NickInTimeFilms aw you mean the bouncing of the engine makes the false contact,, yeah it can be that,, thnk bro, i ll check that
Hey! When will I be able to buy a R.E.M+ again?!

@@NickInTimeFilms I didn't think about the chip shortage at all, makes complete sense. I'll stay tuned!
Does the FSM on your site work 1989?
It should still be available on the downloads page
@@NickInTimeFilms will it work for 1989?
Yes, it's good for 86 to 90
Whats spark plugs you use?
No idea, I've never replaced the spark plugs in my 2.5L. I'd use the stock recommendation which is probably champion copper
