I've gotta bump this video up because this is an amazing tutorial for boss-fighting psychology in these games. Take your time, study their moves and become familiar with their moveset, then act with that knowledge in mind. At the end of the day, this is a memory game.
Nioh 1 and 2 player here. Really enjoying this series. I may not be new to the game with all the hours I have logged into them, but it's always nice to see things from a different perspective. Great videos man, keep up the good work. I'd also say a great tip for new players struggling with Gozuki here is to progress the level a little more til you get your first yokai ability and a little more gear, helps make him a little easier to handle. Just my thoughts though.

Just got this game yesterday, I lost my first Soul Core because I accidently fell into water twice. So far this game is really fun and I can see myself spending a huge amount of time for this game.

A GREAT TEACHER?
I just restarted the game for the third time (the first two times I played ~10-12h into the campaign). Gozuki makes it obvious that I still don't understand how to chain all the mechanics together. I grew up with a PC and without consoles, my experience with classic fighting games or any kind of brawler or beat 'em up is limited. Never played DmC, for example. So yeah, I get close to the flow shown here in the video, but I still fuck up timings pretty often and then die. I am now, on my third attempt and with 20+ hours of experience, again fighting this enemy for almost 1.5h now, and I still didn't beat him. It's not that I couldn't, but I want to do it with style and by utilizing all available mechanics.
That's why I believe that Gozuki is a great teacher for the basic mechanics. If you can beat him with style, you got the basics down.
Since I know nothing about the game, as a complete noob, it'd be interesting to hear what more experienced players think about Gozuki's qualities as a noob coach :)

Ok even though you were talking like you were messing around with the boss you knew EXACTLY how to destroy him. I just bought the game and have been trying to beat him for the past hour LOL. This ki pulse stuff is so tough to remember.
My fight did not go quite as smooth but I did managed to beat him after about 12 attempts.
I'm a total noob, never played Nioh 1, just bought Nioh 2 from steam. Maybe a silly question but how do you tell when to dodge vs when to block? Is dodge more effective than block?
Isn’t that obvious? Dodging consume less ki, faster animation and faster recovery animation, thus its cooler lol. But blocking is still important, just hold block button while dodging so u can instantly block after the dodge animation
There’s only a few situations where you should only dodge or only block, your blocking effectiveness will vary based on what weapons and armor you have equipped. The key in this game is to experiment with EVERYTHING and just use whatever works for you.
Stick with this game man! Soooo much fun when you get the hang of it. Block and dodge there are alot of stance based things to learn about. Imo if u cant safely dodge and not get hit then block. Some attacks cant be blocked. Start with poofers 1st vids in this series. Good luck 👍

Just started this game yesterday, beat the guy in under 15 tries. Sometimes he would walk at me and do nothing, then do the bash/dash attack, the mix ups with him walking around and not attacking was what killed me most of the time because it was so weird. Btw I had no idea how the burst attacks worked so I didn't even use them 🤦♂️🤣
I'm already in the depths. What am I doing here?

I avoided this boss until I cleared most of the smaller enemies in the stage. I also summoned a blue AI warrior
