In wotd now should I wait until I get to wotw before upgrading my armor? Are there better inheritables in wotw?

Dream of the Wise is superb in terms of build variety. I'd recommend somewhat upgrading gear on Demon and then going all out on Wise.

most armor is super heavy so when should we focus on trying to get stamina up to wear it?

Yes, get Stamina so your weight ratio is under 70%

One quick question: does stacking melee ki damage/active skill ki damage affects YA ki damage?

Nope, they are independent. There is a stat called "Max Yokai Ability Ki Damage"

Melee Ki damage affects ALL melee attacks (which includes active skills). Active skill ki damage only applies to active skills. Neither of these affects Max Yokai Ability Ki Damage.
