    Remember, all. This training takes time (for officers to be not on shift) and money (to pay for the location, the actors, the force on force equipment, etc) and availability (so that police departments have geographic access to facilities that do this training). So don't defund your police. Instead, fund them for training like this. Do what you can to get them involved in training like this. Push to have police officers incentivised to stay in shape and to keep their mindset connected to being a protector.
    In addition, enable measures for schools to be safer from intruders. Being a hard target is your first line of defense.

    I got to participate in one of these once. As both an actor and going through the course myself. Quite an experience. I even made a few guys in the course freak out with my screaming and begging for help (I played a few roles. One being a student running for help to try and save a wounded teacher, another where I had been shot in a few places, a dead body a few times, and just a screaming fleeing person)

We teach the “common” person these skills all the time. Including children. Trust me, it’s doable. That’s where we need to focus. But don’t forget PARENTS - IT STARTS WITH US! This video made me tear up because of some things I’ve gone through and hearing the screams kinda got me. But us protectors shouldn’t shy away from the uncomfortable things. • @Gurn_Blanston
      @Gurn_Blanston 6 месяцев назад

      @dougdaniels Cops are cross-trained as EMRs. There is no need for a cop to NOT be EMR trained, nor is there any need to have someone who is not a cop, in a stack going after an active shooter.
      Besides, active shooter response is not a SWAT function- we don't get to decide who responds, nor do we get to assemble a "dream team" of responders. Whoever gets there first, goes after the active shooter. If we're fortunate, other officers will be arriving at the same time and go with us. And the officers arriving, represent a wide range of abilities. We just have to go with whoever is there.

      Understand cost of equipment to equip dudes, A full real time kit costs about 3000+, For the best loadouts money can buy, Most active shooters are armed with rifles, 5.56x45 and above, And active shooters would just start wearing body armor, 2 guys will not cut it, A clearing squad of atleast 12 would be needed.
      Breaking it down, Most average schools are pretty big, Small town schools might work sure, But 2 guys will not clear a big town school within the hour, Now the kit it takes to arm a squad of 12 would likely be around 12k, Just two would be 6k, No school or goverment would do this, They want to max out the amount of money the get.
      In short, Its not about the safety of the children, Its about the amount of money the school can maximize.@@M4A1_DELTA6

      Never underestimate the ingenuity of a human bent on destruction. If it wasn't a gun, what would it be? A bomb? Toxic gas in the AC? Fire? Poison in the food or water?
      You can't have it both ways. You can either accept that active shooters exist and may come for your community, and TRAIN for that, or you can acknowledge that they exist and be resigned to sending "hopes and prayers". Some of us prefer to be proactive.
      Good will always, regrettably, be forced to react to evil in the moment. So preparation is the name of the game.
      Besides, you act like places with strict gun control don't still have their own issues. But that is a tired talking point. Comments like yours strike me as being muffled from having your head in the sand.

      @@davideinstein7887 Unfortunately, about half of our country wants to tackle the issue of procuring the weapons instead of confronting the mental health crisis that is causing the shootings in the first place.
      Of course, institutionalizing people is frowned upon here and the effectiveness of that practice is debatable. So how about some mental healthcare?
      The other half refuses to come to the table when it comes to establishing a wide-coverage healthcare plan for our country, that includes mental health services. So it's a mental health crisis, that we have no actionable solution for tackling.
      Ultimately, the politicians at the top are just fucking around and blowing our money. Most politicians really don't actually get much of their core-agenda accomplished, even if they serve two terms. But what we do have more direct control over, is our own preparedness and the quality of our local law-enforcement. Especially at the county and municipality level. Programs like this mitigate the risk of a repeat of the Uvalde shootings, in which, inaction directly correlated to the high loss of life.
      None of these guys want to respond to a school shooting. But it's better to have trained for such a scenario, than to run in blind. These ladies and gentlemen on their own can't solve the mental health crisis or get every illegal firearm off the street, they can only impact their own physical and mental preparedness.
