Thank you very much. It's always biped in the motion mixer. And i have been searching for a way to mix custom motions. Thank you again. This was a very much needed tutorial
Very helpful! Nice to see you demonstrating this with Mixamo animations and a non-Biped skeleton. Thanks for not having background music, super loud mouse clicks, or those horrid yellow mouse pointer highlight circles. :D
dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last weeks =)
This is interesting, thanks for sharing! Does it work with CAT? It's SO annoying that you have to export anim by anim to the xml format... I have already exported my anims as clips (CAT) and as fbx, one by one. Now also into xml... 3DsMax should export into the 3 formats at the same time with one single export operation (or at least give you the option to do so). It would be very helpful if Autodesk gave half a damn about the animation part of the software, which has been neglected for decades.
I know this is an old video now, but you didn't how how to actually do the compute mixdown for a non-biped figure. That option is grayed out for me and I can't seem to figure out how to mix it down.
it doesnt matter if its bipedal or not, I am not using an actual CAT biped from max, its just bones. Again I havent touched this in over 2 years so things may have changed.
@@revoconner yeah, I’m trying to find more information on it but can’t seem to find any. I’m able to transition animations and see then play out smoothly, just can’t figure out how to bake it.
Is it possible to have multiple animations on the same character but that doesnt mix together? In blender you can export a fbx with mulitple animations in just one file, so when i import in unreal this one file i have multiples animations
Use animation layers and create a new layer. You can now adjust pose here. Remember to save a backup file before doing this as sometimes saving in max with animation layer over motion mixer causes errors
@@revoconner When one animation switches to another one my character changes its position. How can I fix it? Are animations layers the only opportunity to solve it?
Thanks for the video. It looks so clean and easy! I have a problem I cant solve, could you help? Everything is looking good when I import animations separately. But, when i import a TPose and add first animation as a saved motion, the animation is broken. The character floats, change it's rotation a bit and such things. Im not sure if it's important, but I didn't have any "Alpha" to deselct from the list. I would appreciate any tips to solve the problem.
@@revoconner It surely is. Im pretty new to animation, like... started yesterday ;) Dont know which bone is a root one, since Mixamo dose not name any bone like that. Then, even if I know, I don't know how to reset it :(
@@revoconner p.s. if you meant to place the bone that moves all other bones in x: 0 and y: 0 for both: t pose and a clip meshes, then it didn't change the results :(
Hi Rév, how I could do the interpolation starting from the Tpose to another animation. I am looking how to do that because I model the garments in Marvelous in T pose so I need to start always in T and go to another with transtion. Thanks!
hello, there is always a position problem .. when I use a mixamo file if I move it to put it on the scene then it changes the behavior of the bones .. how to solve ??
hi rev , i put a 2 motion walk and run on the motion mixer tab and character walk then it begin start point again ??how can i fix this? thak you so much
A problem others have mentioned ...when adding additional clips .. the additional clips has a wobble to the pelvis that causes the animation to move around unexpectedly. Xforms were reset, didn't solve the issue. I can upload a scene file if anyone is interested. Quite sad this tool hasn't had an substantial explanation in the last 10 years or so. If anyone solves this issue, do reply :)
Nice Tut !!! One question. Is it possible to bake motion mixer animations to a rig as animation keys? I know it is possible with bip files but cannot make it happen on xaf imported files. Thanks
Awesome! Thank you. Is it possible to import two fbx with differnt animation? If i import another fbx the current animation is gone? Need Help, please :)
Hi, thanks for a great tutorial. I have a question please. My character keeps jumping to the start inbetween the 2 xaf files or at the transition, any help would be appreciated. thanks
Hmm looks like this could be two things. Either your object didnt have root motion and ended and began animation at different world space, to which I would say before exporting XAF make sure the coordinates of the objects are same in world space. Other thing it could be that transform (xform) wasnt reset, I do have a tutorial to xform reset a rigged model.
Sir where ever i import animation it doesn't work, when i imported an xaf file into motion mixer (or import animation) a message shows saying "No tracks are maped" what should i do for it !
When I reset Xform everything just became more chaotic. the bone and skin appeared not alligned. but they still move properly. Until I load the animations. like walking, it didnt walk forward but walk in the same spot. The problem is the bone..when I reset Xform it..the animation became weird.
try selecting all bones, then going to bone tools dialog box and resetting all bones from there. Again not all rigs are salvageable so if that happened you might as well go the root motion method where the root bone is stationary and the walk animation is done by stretching the link

Years wanting to learn this! Yes, it's a simple thing for animators but there really isn't much of it. Thanks mate

Finally! a proper tutorial about 3ds max anim... Thanks Rev
This tutorial saved my life!
Thank you soooo much man! I thought the only way to do that was to use motion builder. Glad it all can be done in 3ds max!
Motionbuilder makes it much easier to do though, specially with retargeting skeleton
