Hi Kendyll, Thanks for this informative video and your art. I admire your focus, as an illustrator with your branding, your art and your focus as a person. During the lock down I worked on a lot of art projects and I was building my art brand around calming creative activities, one to one classes but I found I didn't really get much attention to my art or one to one classes. I am really happy with having a calming mindful, nature inspired approach to my art but I considering seeing if I can brand myself as a mindful illustrator whose work is based on nature. Is this to niche for an illustration brand. It is a long life dream of mine to work as an artist/illustrator and I think I can do if I have focus and a product people are actually interested in. Is there any advice you can offer on that. Thanks so much if you read my comment.
Hello Kendyll and happy new year 🍾 Do you think that you can live just be sell print (not customizable )? Because I dream of becoming a illustrator but I ’m so afraid to misunderstanding with clients because i’m French and even when you learn language you don't get everything
Hi Nad! I think it's possible and there are certainly some artists who mainly just sell prints or merchandise as their primary source of income (many fine artists function this way). That being said, it never seemed possible for me or for the kind of work I do. Personally, I always felt like taking on commercial work was the only way to pay the bills. You'd need to put a lot of effort into understanding the kind of art people want to buy. You could also potentially look into licensing your existing works if misunderstanding client requests in a commission is your main fear. Hope that helps!
Whoa that color top and the highlights in your hair really make your eyes stand out! You look so pretty :)
Great points - and from my experience, they all apply to freelance designers as well.
Thanks so much for videos like these. I’m planning to choose this as my career as well

So freelance illustration sounds like it has lots of lean times 🙈🙈
Luckily I’m very frugal

I would totally suggest looking at Meyoco and Leigh Elexxson. I believe they don’t take clients and focus solely on their shop.
Kendyll Hillegas oh yes that help thank you very much
