    Always wanted to see the news coverage of the Invasion, the segments really showed everything that was happening around the world but was barely shown in the movie in favor of American cities and yet the production put great effort into segments that at the time were to be never seen and just play in the background. Love that they have been brought together to create a alternate 1995 where aliens invaded.

      It might have been some cut sequences that may or may not have been filmed that some of these belonged to. It’s clear some well known late 80s and 90s character actors were used but never included in the film, like the middle aged white guy that was the NYC mayor’s aide in Ghostbusters 2.

    Do love these news reports, a real effort in world building for these sorts of movies so rarely seen.
    Part of me would have loved news reports from when the Aliens started their attacks though.
    Update: Following Godzillaman's comments I found this on IMDB
    ''In most versions shown in cinemas and also the ones available on video, scenes are missing that stress the global dimension of the alien attack. In these scenes, international tv-journalists report about the devastation in their respective countries, and the destroying of international cities is shown (e.g. Paris). The cast list still contains some of these reporters, e.g. it names Jessica Cardinahl as German reporter, and also Korean and Russian reporters. These scenes were interesting, as they illustrate that the aliens are not an American problem, but a global one''

    • @Godzillaman
      @Godzillaman 2 года назад +7

      I read that there or actually several more of these news broadcast made that were set during and immediately after the attack. They did not show the attacks themselves, but showed things like distraught and traumatized news anchors reading eyewitness accounts of the attacks.

    Im a huge fan of this movie. Watched it numerous of time and still one of my favorites. But ohhh man has this news broadcast put me on edge in suspense when the welcome wagons were released into the air and the entire globe watching for a reaction from the aliens. When the aliens destroyed the welcome wagons i was shocked, scenarios like this is why we shouldnt underestimate things beyond our understanding because at the end of the day we may never know anyone's intentions

  • @User5777_

    I genuinely never knew this existed. I watched the entire thing amazed. I'd always been curious about the news coverage seen in the movie as I felt that was an interesting piece of the movie we didn't get to see.
    It's a shame they didn't have live news coverage as the alien ships arrived, I would've thought all cameras would be rolling.
    Also at 17:45, I recall seeing a list of affected cities and there were plenty of cities in Latin America & Africa that were attacked by the first wave of alien ships.
    They showed, English, Russian, German, & Korean news channels but would've loved to see Spanish news as Mexico was part of that first wave of arriving alien ships.

    28:18 interesting that this was recorded before they moved where the ship was positioned, originally it was on the Washington monument, but then they decided to move to the White House, the ship on the washington monument is still on Screenplay and in the book

    • @DaveS_shuttle
      @DaveS_shuttle 3 года назад +2

      Actually, if you look closely, you can see that the center of the ship is located some distance away from the Washington Monument. The camera is looking north-northeast, so the ship is directly over the White House. The Washington Monument is located pretty much due south from the White House. Center-to-center is roughly 3000 ft (914 m). And if you way in the background on the right-hand side, the building with the three lights on the horizon, that's the the Capitol Building.

    I don't why so many movies always seem to struggle so much with making news footage feel authentic. This is done perfectly. I hate when modern movies especially have someone watching the news and the news footage looks like its being filmed with the same cinema cameras that are filming the movie.

    Also the Cyrillic on 3:52 in the Russian segment is hilarious. Novosibirsk reads "Novosyioyirsk" and "Tatarsk" is Tatarzhk.

    In the news report from 16:39 - 18:04 the key takeaway in it is that no sightings in the southern hemisphere though in the film The only city we briefly see during the world victory montage that was intercepted and brought down is Sydney, Australia.
    Independence Day: Resurgence whatever supplemental material for it through caution to the wind and said a lot of cities in the southern hemisphere like Rio de Janeiro, Nairobi, Perth and Jakarta were all destroyed. On top of the fact that arbitrarily said 3 billion people died in the 3-day conflict that was the war of 1996.

That's crazy that there's essentially a whole half a movie of worldbuilding and lore that we only see a few snippets of, probably less than a minute total. Just another reason why this film is brilliant and far more than just a generic disaster/invasion blockbuster.
