This tool-assisted speedrun, by Nathan "Bloobiebla" Caldwell, beats The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in under an hour, using several tricks and glitches, the most notable of these being the "Reverse Bottle Adventure" glitch, which allows the player to write things to the game's memory that haven't actually been collected yet. It's used to get things like the bomb bag and the light arrows.
For more information on Reverse Bottle Adventure, check this page: zeldaspeedruns....
The other major skip in this run is the Door of Time skip. To see how exactly it's done, check this page: zeldaspeedruns....
The various other tricks and glitches, such as the hover to the fishing pond and all the superslide-related glitches, have been described by Bloobiebla here: tasvideos.org/2...
---
This is a tool-assisted speedrun, played on an emulator with rerecords, savestates, slowdown, and frame-by-frame shooting. It is NOT meant to show skill, but rather the game pushed to its limits, as it is purely a form of entertainment.

Huge thanks to Aktan for encoding this.

I have had the pleasure of watching bloobiebla TAS parts of this. It was such an honor to watch him sit in his room on his computer all day.
I've seen so many TAS's of this game, but everytime a new one is shown I'm still amazed :D
Hands down one of the finest TAS's I have ever seen. Just brilliant work. Hopefully a large audience will notice this run.
Thanks everyone for the compliments. Glad you're enjoying the run =D
Epicness in a bundle. I have played this game so many times but it never gets old. And now I can see it be completed flawlessly in under an hour. It takes me up to a week to finish it.
Thanks for the compliments people =D I'm glad you're enjoying the run!!
This run is beautiful. Looking back at all the years of new finds being made in this game helps me appreciate this run a lot. I hope to see more runs of different categories too!
This looks even better, bloobiebla is definetly one of my favourites.
It's a glitch used so the game "thinks" you have certain items. That is how he got the light arrows, for example.
This is an amazing run. I just finished watching it, and I have no other words to describe how awesome this was. At times, my eyes couldn't understand what the heck was happening. Congratulations, and keep up the good work.
Videos like this are why I love TAS videos. You get to see them take some of the best games ever made that we all love and know and break the FUCK out of them.
I don't know how many times I've watched this :) Just amazing!
wow, this tas is just amazing, it use all the glitches the game has to offer, good work
i always enjoy watching speed runs this is the fastest loz oot one ive seen yet!
Can't believe i just watched this whole video, i love you sir.
Was just playing through Majora's Mask thinking I was going fast... but after watching this TAS i don't feel that so much anymore :P
Great TAS. Loved watching it.
Bloobiebla:
This is the most amazing TAS i've EVER seen. You have brought this game into a whole new perspective. I remember the times when I used like half a year to complete this. (1/2 of it was using time on the water temple) Now you come with this TAS, showing that the game can be completed so fast.
With the Z-slide, and all different kind of programming errors and glitches, this game is broken IMO.
The only game that's more broken must be Super Mario 64.
Again, awesome run! we all love you
The way he exits the village is new to me. I am truly amazed!
Man, this "A" guy is a good person. He saves all the different worlds in TAS. I heard his little brother AAA gets all the high scores in arcade games though.
Completely Epic, one of the greatest things I have ever seen.
The best zelda TAS ever!
ver very good! this was the first long TAS video ive ever watched fully.
dude u are insane, i just saw a 1 hour and 16 mins but u did in 56 mins i really admirate ur glitches ;)
Great TAS :) cool seeing all those crazy strats being put into use :D
@Tomtelala thanks a ton. i always respect when my questions are answered. why is the Zelda community so good?
that run ist just a masterpiece.
OMG the memories of how "slow" the fastest route once was :D It was even SLOWER.. but this is still slow by todays standards anyway..
Ahhh the memories..
I'm trying to find something wrong with this, but I just can't. Some of the stuff you did surprised even the best of us OoT players.
Fantastic job.
the way he got to the ladder at 20:41 is just epic, mayor improvement
What? I've been following you since 2007 because I like these videos.
In the hands of time we all we'll die... the death of the night shall devour your child.
While we're on the subject, why not just walk forward the whole time too? Isn't it annoying to see him super slide and side hop all of the time?
this is the fastest run so far. nice job bloob!!!!
omg great time save on that first scene were saria gives you ocarina, it was pretty epic the way everything is timed to perfection
im watching this video 200times now and its still awesome :D
64 minutes ago, after reading the descriptions, I tought... "This TAS will be impressing". Now I'm like "This TAS blows your mind o.O".
im excited, keep the tas coming sowrdlesslink
its official: the best game ever can now be beaten in under an hour...amazing!
He does actually learn them, just not the normal way. The stuff with the bugs is a glitch called Reverse Bottle Adventure. By getting a bottle on B (Why the rod was stolen) and uses its content, the game will combine the value of the content with the item you have on C-right to create items and songs to your inventory.
Read more by following the link in the description.
One more thing, if you noticed, he didn't get all the items to the broken Biggoron sword for nothing. That's what made him trigger the light arrow cutscene.
1) replaces sword with wooden flimsy pole then a fragile glass bottle
2) plays thru half the game on one foot throwing bombs
3) DOESN'T GET ANY OCARINA AT ALL
4) Doesn't learn any songs but still teleports (dafuq?)
5) breeds bugs in bottles.
YOU ARE A GOD
Playing OOT can't get any more entertaining than this. : D
12:12
"As I thought, you held the keys to the Door of Time!"
Well, actually...
He completed about a month of my childhood in the first 12 minutes of this video -_-
It's like watching the cool kid on the block do a wheelie you could never do on the bike of your childhood.
And by jove, is that one hell of a wheelie.
Thanks for uploading Swordless Link! Enjoy the run everyone! :D
Geez, spent about a week or so playing the 3DS version and I can't watch past 41 min because I'm not that far in. Lol, simply amazing.
"Timing:
An OoT speedrun begins timing when Link jumps out of bed and stops timing when the final blow is delivered to Ganon. See Timing OoT for more on this. "
So he did it FAR under 56:57.33
And 4 minutes in a speedrun are like 1 1/2 hr IRL.
So Bloobiebla did very well.
"The evil incarnation of Darkness"... now I finally realize who they're referring to...
This is purely amazing.
Favorited.
The stuff he did with the bugs is a glitch called Reverse Bottle Adventure (Link in the description). If you get a bottle on B and use its content, the game will combine the value of the content with the item you have on C-right. This will create items and songs to your inventory.
To start the Light Arrow cutscene, and the rainbow bridge, you need the Shadow and Spirit medallions, which you can get by having the Broken Biggoron's Sword on C-right and bugs on B.
He learned it at 29:48 through the glitch Reverse Bottle Adventure. The link in the description will explain how this work. Basically a way to create items and songs to your inventory.
Really is the hero of time.....saves the world in under an hour.
this guy is the legendary hero of time, latterly
This is second to pokeys speed run he deserves some credit for doing it in the n64 in real time, this one is still awesome thought.
Amazing job, Bloobiebla. Only you could take a run that mainly consists of cutscenes and catching bugs and make it so entertaining to watch.
swordlesss linkkkkk thank you for posting all of these and making my work day go faster :)
A one hour tale of beetles, bottles, bombs, broken swords, and back-stepping.
Navi: "Can Hyrule's destiny really depend on such a lazy boy?"
*Link saves world in less than one hour effortlessly which justifies laziness*
Link: "Can I go to sleep now?"
This is an amazing run, by the way.
Excellent run, obvious mastery of the game, and very enjoyable to watch. My favorite parts were the Poe slides (never seen that before) and zelda grunting with link in front of her while opening the gates. 5 stars
It’s crazy how the current TAS is 50 minutes faster
the way these jumps are just spot on im like wtf
@MisterM2402 It's for BA (Bottle Adventure), a huge sequence break that allows the skipping of several medallions, adult trade sequence items, etc. It involves getting stealing the rod, getting a bottle on b, then using the bugs in the bottle to rewrite values.
Thumbs up if you watched the intro of this game thousands of times.
Earlier, I asked a question that sort of answered itself: You need Light Arrows to beat Ganondorf.
beating this game in less than an hour...now that is skill
They are the Six Sages, which you were supposed to find out while playing through the temples.
Actually, no. Watch the video, he's using the Master Sword. As I said, the Biggoron side quest was needed to get the two last medallions, thanks to the RBA glitch, which trigger the light arrow cutscene.
wow an hour long really nice work!
bloobiebla is back!!!!!! :D
I like how at every door of bars Link makes out with Zelda.
FANTASTIC run. This game is so incredibly broken...
he sure as shit is the hero of time, saved the world in 56 minutes
Bloob made the megaflip gerudo bridge skip look so easy lol.
It's always so weird seeing Link run around in the cutscenes like normal when every other time he's scooting backwards or side-jumping.
@Tomtelala i read the description but i didn't know that's what it stood for so thanks
Just to let people know: The Japanese TAS (58:xx) had ~5 minutes of text-speed advantage over this English run. So in reality this TAS is around SEVEN MINUTES faster than that Japanese one. This run uses the ocrrect route and was simply optimized much better.
It's a glitch called Ground Jump. If you check the link in the description, click on the "Techniques" tab and then "Ground Jump" you can find additional information about how this works.
@Cyborg3669 If your C-buttons are empty when you become an adult, you'll have the bomb icon there. You haven't got the bomb bag and can't get any bombs though.
The actual bomb bag is obtained at about 24:30. If you have Cojiro on C-right and bottle with bugs on B, you'll get it.
"You have overcome many hardships and awakened six Sages." ...Did he now?
@CrunchyCrystals The first link in the description helps to explain this.
If you get a bottle on B, you can combine the value for the item in the bottle (Bugs here) with the item you have on C-right to create items. This is a glitch in the game.
In order to get the Light Arrows, you only need the Shadow and Spirit medallion and to get those two you have to have the broken sword on C-right.
If I am correct, he had the broken Biggoron sword on his right C-Stick button. He then did the RBA glitch, which gave him the shadow and spirit medallions. Then, he just used the Prelude of Light song with his bombocarina (Lol), to warp to the Temple of Time. With the RBA glitch, and having the two medallions, it triggered the light arrow cutscene.
@20krib it takes more frames for the name to be written when other characters are referring to you. single letters are fastest and a is usually the fast letter to choose
If you count until the final blow, it was more towards 53-54 minutes.
He's done in an hour what it took me weeks to complete...
not sure if you know of this but, there's a way to teleport from the first boss directly into ganon's castle, you can beat the game in like 20 minutes as child link himself, look it up
That glitch is called Reverse Bottle Adventure. There's a link that will explain it in the description. Also check out the page linked to TASvideos where you acn find additional information about the run.
@SwordlessLink So are you, MrGrunz, Petrie, Kazooie, Tompa, and everyone else!
@Swizzle62 He does it to get the Spirit Medallion and the Shadow Medallion without having to even fight the bosses.
The reason how he does this is by using a glitch called the Reverse Bottle Adventure which hacks RAM during gameplay depending on what you do with your B-Bottle and what you currently have on C-Right.
@ZirconRex True. In order to start that cutscene you needthe Shadow and Spirit Medallions. He is actually getting both of them, just in a different way...
All the times he is picking up/releasing bugs, he's "creating" items. By combining the value of what's in the bottle on the B button, with the value of what's on C-right, you can get different items. The right item to use on C-right is the Broken Biggoron Sword.
If you follow the first link in the description, you can get a better explanation.
Just think, the current route is just over eight minutes. Crazy how things change.
It's for the glitched Reverse Bottle Adventure (Link in the description). By doing that he is basically creating items (and songs) to his iventory. That's the easy explanation =).
That's cool as hell man, I had no idea.
It is explained if you read the movie description. You can also find a deeper explanation by following the website TASvideos, which is also linked in the description.
He did it through the glitched called Reverse Bottle Adventure, there's a link in the description explaining what it is.
The tools involve slowing down the game as much as possible and the use of save states. For every frame in the game you choose what input you want to do and if something goes wrong you use save states.
For more info visit the website TASvideos.
@pessumusprime96 it is and it isn't depending on how the person made the run, TAS means they can do things such as advancing frame by frame to make sure hey got the correct inputs, re-record parts of the run and such.
i got this game on gamecube christmas and im at water temple i spent sevral hours already dang Bloobie is quick
Wow, these oblique superslide were just badass. Unsure if there any name about it...
Nice job, that was just crazy!
@Omgheytux It's needed to get the fishing rod on B, which later results in having the bottle on B. Which is needed for the Reverse Bottle Adventure glitches needed.
@thetruesora It overwrites the B button with a stick, which allows you to overwrite it with a bottled bug, which is necessary to RBA for the right items
This is how i played ocarina of time my first time, exactly like this.
