- In Minimax 1100r Wood Aircraft Build - Making Wing Root Fairings I make some fiberglass fairings to cover the gap between the fuselage and the wing.

Another great build video. Been following from the beginning. Building a 1100r with my Grandsons who are Young Eagles EAA Ch 113 metal airport Plymouth/Canton MI.
I love stories like yours. Any time I get to spend time with my kids working on stuff, even at their age!
Would Velcro work rather than screws. Would be easier when removing the wings?
I was actually thinking about industrial double sided tape too. The screws worked out well, just needed help to get them on
That's pretty cool Dennis. Those look nice and I am glad to finally see how you were gonna close that gap. On a side note, since my RV-8 dream is dead, I am considering just building a 1550V-max. If for no other reason than to just have something to do. I'll probably won't keep it in a hangar but make it something I can trailer and road trip then explore areas of interest with. I mean, I'm just disgusted with the cost of aviation right now and have no desire to spend every penny I have building an airplane. 🤦♂
I can tell you that it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done
Great video. Always good to see you and what you're up to with your bird!
Thank you! I sure miss making the build videos!
Cool. This vid is like the first ones you did. Great job!
Thanks so much!
Make those x2 sets! That’s something I’ve wanted to do! I’ll make a video of where mine is at soon. Not to far from flight
Can’t wait to see where you are!
They’re really easy to make
Nice little splash moulded fairing. I would have used glass tissue as a finish lamination to reduce the amount of micro but we all do different thing. Nice little touch 🙂
Thank you!
Wish I would have listened to you on the prop in the beginning. My original was performing better than the adjustments. Now we’re working on a new prop.
@@DTMinimax sorry to hear that.
what did it cost to cover and paint the plane
I believe I spent about $1100
@@DTMinimax im covering my loehle sport parasol in oratex, just the wing and tail, its 4200, probably another 800 for the fuse when i do it. i was wondering what the diff is, about 5x i guess.
Awesome! Enjoyed that for sure, keen to see the rest & what difference it makes, Cheers.
I can tell you that when I flew this morning there was a lot more air flowing past the cockpit for sure!
@@DTMinimax That's cool!
Regarding my other comment, did you make a video talking about the cost of getting a kit vs. sourcing your own materials? I couldn't find one but was wondering if you had the cash in your pocket and were going to start building, would you still source the materials yourself?
I estimated that I saved about $2,000 but at the cost of about 100 hours of additional build time. If I didn’t have such great access to the lumber, and 45 minutes from Aircraft Spruce, that savings would have disappeared in a hurry in freight cost alone. So I would have definitely gone with the kit.
@DTMinimax That's very helpful! I appreciate the information. I'm not, rich but if I work overtime, I can have that saved up in a few weeks. Blue skies!
@@1hornet1My complete cost was around $14,000
@@DTMinimax That is impressive!
