We've always made s'mores by first assembling them, then wrapping them in foil, and placing over the fire, so the chocolate and marshmallow melt together. I say that's the superior method than placing the marshmallow onto cold chocolate... but I'm sure this still tastes great as an indoor solution, when you're not near an open fire.
You may be right. I will say, though: with my method, it kinda toasts the graham crackers too. I’m not sure if you’d get that from oven heat, or if you need that direct flame. I’d be willing to try it though.
The best s’more you will have will be in your oven. Turn your broiler on and put your chocolate on the Graham cracker and put it under broiler for 20-30 seconds; just enough to soften but not melt the chocolate. Then put the marshmallow on the chocolate and back under the broiler until the top of the marshmallow is golden brown. Remove from oven and put the other Graham cracker on and that chocolate and marshmallow will melt together into each other and the texture is amazing.
Oh my gosh, what a great idea. I'll have to try this method w/the kids. I was looking for ideas to make smores w/the kids other than pulling out the grill. Thanks for the advice. Enjoy your smores as well.
Back in 1999 I worked at a coffee shop (XandO) that had s'mores. We served them on a pu pu platter with a metal burner loaded with sterno. Bamboo skewers were used for the "sticks".
This reminds me of when I was a kid, my friends and I loved to make s'mores!!! We lived on farms in the country, so we didn't have access to a store to buy chocolate bars. Instead, we'd use chocolate chips. We would go to a rural park and make a small bonfire and make our s’mores with our chocolate chips and Graham crackers plus the roasted marshmallows!!! Best times ever with friends!!!
@miamaria7397 It's because our parents didn't have a need to buy chocolate bars for us all the time. We had to make due with what we could find in the cupboard. Country life can be hard that way for kids, but we were smart and could figure out a better way to make our s'mores. Chocolate chips are just as good.
Not sure if you're joking or not. But on a serious note. I gave up sugar with the exception that I do still drink my sweet tea. And I've lost 90lbs in the past year and I'm still losing. Of course I know most processed foods have a percentage of sugars but I'm mainly talking about candy cakes milkshakes etc.
@@TTownTCG thank you! I gave up sugar last year after a diagnosis of cancer. I only lost 80 pounds and have not lost any more for 3 months. The only sugar I get is in the cream in my coffee. I'm trying to give that up so I can finish the next 30 pounds. I'm so happy for you and want to cheer you on to keep up your great work! I'm a serious sugarholic and could only give it up with the help of butter and bacon. Dr. Ken Berry has helped as well.
Lol I know it does. All small appliances say that, then they give you a 2 foot cord! I mean, aren't there wires bringing power to the plug in the first place?
That was a fun review. I've never had S'mores, but I've eaten roasted marshmallows. I was wondering if you were going to bring out the indoor fire pit. That seems like a lot more fun than the S'mores Maker. I'm surprised you didn't check to see how hot the S'mores Maker got compared to the Fire Pit.
I took one of these off a relative’s hands a while back. I’ve only used it once, but it worked well enough. The marshmallow felt like it took forever to cook.
I have no urge to buy a S'mores Maker. But, I just love your videos! They make me laugh and get my mind off life things. Some people do cat videos; I do your videos. 👍🙂
With the amount of bots, fake reviews, sponsored commentary and lack of Amazon's own internal verification requirements for purchases or accounts, how do you typically get good information when selecting a product? Our family uses a LOT of Amazon, even subscribing to Amazon Prime. Our biggest problem however seems to be sorting through all of the fake information (which is how we've come to like this channel so much for its honest reviews).
A tip I learned in Girl Guides is to use digestive cookies that have chocolate on one side for making smores by fire. If you are making smores at home you can quickly make them in an oven, or microwave. For a treat I sandwich some mini marshmallows between two chocolate chip cookies, and put it in the microwave for about ten seconds. Just make sure to watch as marshmallows will quickly expand and make a mess if you are not careful.
This is one of those gadgets that is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. 😂 When I was little, the only time I ever had S'mores was when I would visit my grandmother. She had a gas stove and we would make them over a burner set on low. Generic graham crackers, "large" marshmallows, chocolate chips (never a chocolate bar) , and half a slice of American cheese. We would also roast hot dogs over the gas flame.
I can never wait for the marshmallow to golden brown. I just always put a flame to them and wait less than a minute until the flame goes out by itself. That leaves a nice crunchy exterior and a nice melted center in a lot shorter time! Great, now I'm hungry. In my case, all I need as a smores maker is a Bic lighter and a stick (along with the grams, chocolate and marshmallows).
Serious question, and I don't mean to be mean, but why do youtube folks show part of the video in the beginning? It used to drive me nuts when they did it with TV shows, and it drives me nuts here. It's like, I clicked the video, I don't need a short preview of a 15 min vid. Anyway, love the channel mate!
It's to increase viewers attention/retention, especially when the video pops up in a recommended feed or the like. I don't remember the specific number, but it's something like a viewer will know whether or not they want to continue watching a video within the first 30 seconds or so. Something like that. Well, for a lot of creators, 30 seconds is their intro, and you haven't even gotten into what the video is about, yet. So, by putting a "preview" in the front of the video, you are doing your best to entice viewers to click on it and/or keep watching, which increases your view time for your channel/video, and overall is better for your metrics and revenue. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the basic idea.
I'm watching this and was writing a comment to try the indoor fire pit and then you did. As for the original product, single marshmellow was roasted over the center, where there's no heat source directly below. doing 2 at the same time was faster because both were directly over the heating element, that seems to circle around the middle
I think this is one big missed opportunity: an automatic skewer rotator! Just put a marashmallow in the skewer and let it rotate slowly. Pick it up when it's cook. Anyway, the thing about slow is that you can actually talk to your friend while the marshmallow is cooking. Ideal for those who can't go for camping. Nice little trick, but hope the heating element is at least a little bit higher wattage, maybe 350W? And also, change the name from S'more Maker to Indoor BBQ or something. I bet the kids will really love this indoor cooking appliances as they can roast chicken part like they did in outdoor firepit. Nice little gimmicks, but I would love to have some when my nephew and niece visit me during raining season.
We have the "official" Hershey's brand version that we picked up from target a few years back, was almost identical to this one except the tongs were extendable.... we've used it once and it's been sitting in cabinet ever since. And yah, it's still just as slow, but it beats trying to do it over the stove when you live in an all electric apartment.
What an awesome video you did wonderful making these delicious looking smores!! I haven’t tried Reese’s with a smore before but I’m definitely going to be trying it this way. Can’t wait to see more videos on your channel
The indoor fire pit you reviewed does FAR better with this...I mean you could have picked up a hot plate burner for 3 bucks in a thrift store and got those results.
"Some people use their gas stove!" Hell I use my ELECTRIC Stove. It's practically the same thing as this but you don't need to buy a whole trinket to do it!
To me, this thing just screams "fire hazard". We used to use a stick we found in the yard as a skewer, too. Works great! You can also cook hot dogs that way. Man, I had a great childhood!
We had 7 kids in our family. The contest was who could get their marshmallows perfectly browned all the way around and totally melted inside. If your marshmallow caught fire or charred you were immediately eliminated. I am wondering if you were an only child. 😂
If they made it slightly hotter and much longer marshmallow sticks, this would be a unique idea. Those short sticks would burn your fingers and probably tire out your arm holding, so at the very least a longer/retractable one should be included
Mate the marshmallow is put in on its side. The top cookie is what you use to hold the s'mores together while you remove the skewer. Hot marshmallow is like hot tar
You don't even need to use a gadget, or a stove burner. Another way to roast marshmallows for s'mores is to put them on top of the graham cracker and place them in a warm oven for a short time, using a cookie sheet. Keep an eye on them - it only takes a few minutes. They'll roast nicely, and you can add the square of chocolate and second graham cracker square on top.
Honestly , you are probably better off using an open flame , a candle would roast the marshmallow faster and more evenly, maybe you should do a comparison for us
Smores machine costs $30 and requires AC. A portable butane stove costs from $20 to $60 and can actually be used inside or taken outside to make s'mores in the wild without building a fire.
These are some monster marshmallows... don't think of them if Gozer invades earth again. 😄 Yes, those second ones were much better. Who the frig made those monster-mellows? 😆
As of late I judge a smore skewer by its ability to hold the entire assembled creation over the fire ( post mallow roast) to also soften the chocolate a bit.
Our local grocery store had them in the flyers on sale. I never had the urge to buy them...I don't think I know anyone else who's tried them either. I walked past a full shelf of Prime drinks on for 99 cents a bottle. I guess they didn't much either lol Perhaps Newfoundlanders don't care about newer hyped up products?
Fun review but doubt its use as a camping stove - unless you have one heck of an extension cord. Tanks for the Reese’s tip. Think I’ll just keep using my gas stove.
You should do portable heated products..I had to wing it buying a heated lunchbox, but the rabbit hole goes deep.. I’m sure there’s more than just me that use heated lunch gizmos .. anyways thank you so much for the great reviews
The beauty of making s’mores outdoors while camping is the squirrels and ants clean up all your dropped marshmallows. I would have used some other forks with long handles. And forks, really? You miss the crunchy bits of bark that break off from a sharp stick.
Exactly what I was thinking. Sandwich the marshmallow in the s'more, and pull the stick out horizontally. Who uses their fingers to pull a skewer out of melted sugar? That being said, I always find something non-sensical in his reviews. It makes me feel like he's a good reviewer for the average person who actually reads the instruction manual, to be honest. Project Farm is where I go when I'm actually considering buying something.
12:03 trust me not every flame works as a test to see if it was as bad as I was expecting I tried a candle (plain unscented) and nope didn’t work maybe a bees wax candle may work but as they tend to cost a lot more you may not want to waste beeswax candles on marshmallows that may still end up tasting horrid.
Hershey, for a short while (before the "people are too stupid for this product" recall) sold a vastly superior version of this indoor roaster; it had a fan so it was essentially a vertical heat gun. Roasts up marshmallows nice and toasty and QUICK.
I think the main issue with this is that it's literally just an induction stove in a plastic base with a cover, so the heat isn't as powerful as something direct like fire. The marshmallows get too soft before the sugar can caramelize, while fire is hot enough to quickly caramelize the sugar on the outside of the marshmallow before the inside is liquid.
Cords to appliances that get hot are almost always going to have a short cord to prevent someone tripping on it and causing it to fall and cause chaos.
The graham crackers make it through okay?
You could just wrap them and stick them in the oven to mimic that method.
You may be right. I will say, though: with my method, it kinda toasts the graham crackers too. I’m not sure if you’d get that from oven heat, or if you need that direct flame. I’d be willing to try it though.
Holy moly I need to try that
In the oven? I kinda wanna try it.
We used to make s’mores just on the electric burners on our stove. Worked the same way. 😊
We did too but my mom would blow her top when she found the element completely covered with burnt marshmallow 😂
Exactly! Would never buy this product. Id take it as a gift though.
That's all you need. This is just a gadget that doesn't work very well and takes up too much space. An unnecessary purchase.
Those aren’t marshmallows, they’re damn bed pillows! 😉
You made me laugh, thanks! 😊😂
😂
I once had a dream that I was eating a giant marshmallow. When I woke up, my pillow was gone!
Nothing will replace doing S’mores on a stick over an open fire!!
I don't know why I found this so funny, but thank you for a good laugh 😂✨
i never thought about reeses in a smore thats a great idea
That's a common thing people bring to a cookout. You just have to be on the lookout for those people who eat the candy without the smore.
I am the person of which you speak. The Reese's Thief. #noshame
As soon as you turned it on I was thinking the little alcohol fire thing you reviewed would work better. Glad you tried it!
That's what I gave as a secret santa gift last year.
Remove from oven and put the other Graham cracker on and that chocolate and marshmallow will melt together into each other and the texture is amazing.
gosh, we can probably use the air fryer now!
The best part is you can make a dozen at a time.
Oh my gosh, what a great idea. I'll have to try this method w/the kids. I was looking for ideas to make smores w/the kids other than pulling out the grill. Thanks for the advice. Enjoy your smores as well.

I love s’mores! That said, it’s an OK idea; yet a common stove or burner plate will bring similar results…
Thats true about a lot of things he tests tbh. A lot of the time there are easier solutions than a specific device.
Back when I was a young g kid (about 60+ years ago!) my sister and I did S’mores on our gas stove! Not a great, idea!!😁😁
@@sandybruce9092 maybe you got too close to the fire? (But accidentally incinerating marshmallows is part of the fun of making S’mores)

To me, this thing just screams "fire hazard". We used to use a stick we found in the yard as a skewer, too. Works great! You can also cook hot dogs that way. Man, I had a great childhood!
Kitchen appliance cord length is short to meet the requirements of the UL standard. Not really a manufacturer's fault.
We use a heat gun that can stand upright. A lot more power and more versatile, since you can use it for other things too.
I cook my s'mores with a toaster set to the highest setting.
Run the toaster once to pre-heat and definitely cook the top of the marshmallow first.
You know when James starts to say everything twice things are getting exciting.
I’m not like most people, that I know of. But I like my marshmallows incinerated.😂😂😂
We had 7 kids in our family. The contest was who could get their marshmallows perfectly browned all the way around and totally melted inside. If your marshmallow caught fire or charred you were immediately eliminated. I am wondering if you were an only child. 😂
We sell this at my work so this will help me when customers ask me questions about products I don't own.
I can get at least 3 roastings from one of the campfire marshmallows - wait until the outside is toasty and pull it off, keep roasting the guts 😊
Oh James! You could've just cut the huge marshmallows in half my friend. LOL

It would be cool if got the small Solo Stove Cinder or the bigger Mesa to review and compare to this. They show people using it for S’Mores.
Wow, these looked delicious!!!
You can nake them easily in the microwave. You do not get the toasted flavor but the chocolate gets more melty.
I like to set mine alight, until fully charred.😊On a fork. With a Bic lighter.😅
Smores machine costs $30 and requires AC. A portable butane stove costs from $20 to $60 and can actually be used inside or taken outside to make s'mores in the wild without building a fire.
Just a hint - a two-pronged fork-like something would hold, the marshmallow better! It will always spin on a single prong!
These are some monster marshmallows... don't think of them if Gozer invades earth again. 😄
Yes, those second ones were much better. Who the frig made those monster-mellows? 😆
You should try warmed up Hershey's Cookies & Cream candy bars on your S'mores , I put that as next level as using a Reese's.
The smore is the most offensive assault on the human palate ever contrived. 😝
You can also use a toaster. Not as good looking but works too
Love that we got a mini-food review in this one. 😂
Ghirardelli squares make for some good s'mores, too.
This works good for me. It seems kid friendy, verses an indoor firepit.
The intro was hilarious
Granted Hershey bars aren't the best chocolate, but they are traditional for s'mores, I recall many a fun evening around the campfire making s'mores
As of late I judge a smore skewer by its ability to hold the entire assembled creation over the fire ( post mallow roast) to also soften the chocolate a bit.

At 11:25 has James invented the perfect Apocalypse S'mores maker.
Use a graham cracker to push the marshmallow on to the chocolate graham cracker. Then you don't have the guts come out.
There's something about the taste of the fire that makes a smoke superior. Plus, I like my marshmallows burnt
I'm only in 2 mins and skewers DO look too short

I like each item separately but I don't like to eat smores! Wish I did, it looks so yummy!
That is a solid crunch
BTW, a small candle would do just fine for indoor s'mores
The second way is actually how I prefer them, burnt on the outside and less done inside
This feels like it would benefit greatly from a fan to help push hot air into a concentrated area.

@@clobberella It's always good when a tool can be used for more than it was designed for. Maybe in a pinch, melt some cheese on a sandwich?

What you want is Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria. That’s the best chocolate
Born and raised in Pennsylvania.
It's only s'mores if you use Hershey.
I like using the fudge stipe cookies for my s’mores.
This channel is criminally undersubscribed. I’ve been watching you for years, since the tiny swamp cooler days lol. I always trust your findings!
It's a conventional electric stove, not an induction stove. An induction stove would be even worse.
For Safety to Keep Your Hands farther from the Heat, perhaps invest in a pkg of cheap Fondue Forks
Cords to appliances that get hot are almost always going to have a short cord to prevent someone tripping on it and causing it to fall and cause chaos.
