  • Frosto Frozen Foods Launceston Trade Show, at the Launceston Casino.
In conjunction, we ran an inaugural Salon Culinaire.
    Date - 17th October 1989. ( 32 years ago )
The event was just after the infamous Pilots Strike.
The attached home video was taken by Phil Maney.
The video is very poor quality, however it is good to look back at how we did it in the past.
The Salon Culinaire was a huge success, with entrants from Launceston and Hobart.
Some well known judges from both ends of the Island, including Doug Ralph and Henry Stauffer from Drysdale College.
The judges are mentioned at the presentation.
The entrants and winners, are/were well known chefs from the state. I’m sure you will recognize some names.
Charles McKean and Doug Ralph are presenting at the awards section.
If you weren’t there or didn’t know about this industry event, well, you were not in touch or not interested, in what was happening in Food Service
During the presentation/awards; Doug and Charles were calling for a Frosto representative, to assist with the major award for the night.
Frosto were the major sponsor for the event, yet they were not around.
Mike Oakley and Dick Dally were the Managers back then
I later found out they were all at the bar downstairs, with some very unimportant customers/clients from the trade.
With Frosto’s lack of interest in the event, we did not host another Salon Culinaire in Launceston.
It was no surprise that their Management changed when Frosto was sold in the coming years.
( After the price fixing scandal in Tasmania, soon after, many left or sold up )
