Nonsense. Frank Black can still sing and much of his work after the Pixies is just as strong or better. He has had many manybrilliant records since. "Teenager of The Year" is arguably the best rock album of the 90s.
Sounds like Mr. Frank Black Francis threw his voice out sometime in the mid nineties. He can't seem to hit the squeals and screams here like he could in earlier concerts. Maybe it was toward the end of the tour. Or maybe it was just aging.
Actually, Frank took voice lessons sometime after 1 or 2 Catholics albums, and you can hear the difference really well if you listen to the later albums. His singing got better, more in key, and he could still scream as good if not better than he used to. Though the live shows can strain his voice occasionally like here, but I've heard other bootlegs where he sounds flawless the whole show.

@comosante Nah man... there's a "Freedom Rock" live on conan that was totally as good as the record. Frank just looks a little pained here.
Somehow his voice got fucked up between 1995 and 1996. He lost the ability to sing in higher registers.
