    Truly enjoyed jamming together on this concept model, so raw and real in the moment in the middle of the amazing PKM Summit. So many good vibes and I'm thankful we have this video to commemorate a part of the weekend!

      Absolutely! I love how genuine the video is and how it mirrors the atmosphere of the entire PKM Summit. It was so awesome to meet in person finally!
      Funny enough, watching this video motivates me to create a concept map for each of the core concepts in my Visual Thinking Framework.

    hello, I really like Excalidraw, I'm just missing a small function, could you add scissors to cut part of the image, and then your application will be as powerful as goodnote.
    thank you for everything

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  3 месяца назад

      You can currently solve this with cropping: ruclips.net/video/uHFd0XoHRxE/видео.html
      You can even crop parts of PDF pages, thus instead of cutting an image out of PDF, you crop a referenced section: ruclips.net/video/4wp6vLiIdGM/видео.html

    Hello! Thanks for the plugins and content you make. Can I ask a question here about a bug in Excalidraw? When I try to add an element to the library, I get the error: Support for adding images to the library coming soon! What can be done about this? Thank you

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the compliment on the plugin and content!
      As for clarity of terminology. This is not a BUG, this is a feature request - though I can see how the "Error" dialog might lead you to think differently.
      I don't think this feature will ever be implemented. The message comes from the Excalidraw package and has been there for 2 years now, and I don't see any activity to do something about it... But even if it were to be implemented in the package, in Obsidian this would create lots of questions as to how I would keep the image (that is linked to a file in your Vault) in the library updated when you move files around in your Vault.
      If you want an image library, I recommend following an approach as for example demonstrated in this video. ruclips.net/video/_OEljzZ33H8/видео.html

    I don't know if you will answer. Is there a function to save or load all settings for Excalidraw?
    While using Excalidraw, Obsidian suddenly shut down due to an unexpected error, and when I turned it back on, the Excalidraw settings were reset, which was an awkward situation.

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  3 месяца назад

      Settings are saved to .obsidian/plugins/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/data.json
      you can make a backup of that.
      Unfortunately if Obsidian crashes for whatever reason (e.g. even if you kill the process from task manager) there is no guarantee as to settings being preserved. This is like a russian roulette... sometimes you get away with it, 1 out of a 1000 you even need to reinstall Obsidian. This happened to me recently when another application on my PC caused the entire PC to freeze. I had no other option but to hard reset the machine. When I came back Obsidian ran into an infinite cycle of reindexing. In the end I reinstalled Obsidian and was back in business. Want to highlight, that I did not lose any data in the process, just had the inconvenience of reinstall.
      All this said, I recommend to keep backups. I use Obsidian Sync for this, but you can use other cloud or local backup solutions. The bottom line is... apps and computers can break, crash... you want to make sure you have safe backups available.

    What a load of blathering rubbish - far too much of this is blindingly-obvious, whilst creating boxes in a hideously-confused and unhelpful way. Do we need boxes and lines to as the man said, 'create a sentence'? Why not just write a sentence if that's all the graphics are doing? What the term 'lean forward' is supposed to mean is anybody's guess. As soon as the hand-expressions and terms such as 'intellectual-asset' start to arrive I become even more convinced that this is just waffle. It's the sort of presentation that one may expect where the main reason for this video is promotion - no actual substance just one meaningless abstraction after another.... If this helps to model anything then that must be simply 'confusion' from what I see here. It's neither an inspiring free-form technique or a more formalised and algorithmic approach, represented hopelessly by a jumble of graphics..... I don't see any concrete technique of modelling here at-all I'm afraid. It looks to me like a couple of well-intentioned chaps that unfortunately just don't know what they're talking about. This video is going to put people off of the very powerful techniques, of which there are many, of modelling, conceptual, procedural, entity-based (as for the entity-attribute relational model) to name a few. My advice would be simply to go and find a better and more rational video if you want to understand modelling, this video will simply make people think that they should have understood it as the two chaps are presenting as if they are knowledgeable when they are just padding, hand-waving and imparting no knowledge to the viewer - a waste of time that's actually going to decrease understanding.... Sorry to be so negative but I dislike sources like this one that have the professional clothes but no knowledge or substance behind the curtain as it were....

      I think it's important to understand the context of how this video was created... spontaneous opportunity and vulnerability in learning a brand new method of brainstorming/mapping out a particular concept - LIVE. I wonder, other than blabbing on in a voice memo or typing whatever comes to mind in the usual text-based manner, is there another way to organize thoughts visually if not throwing words on a blank canvas and relating them? A typical video most are used to online is a well prepared and structured video, where the purpose is to teach a concept... whereas the context that I see here is that these 2 guys have met at a live conference and decided to try out something new and to demonstrate it.
      All that being said, I do understand what you mean by how this could cause some confusion for newbies in this space who may not understand or see the context in which this video was created. Perhaps the video title could reflect this to set better expectation for the viewers because it seems to me like perhaps you were expecting something different than what you saw.
      For me, however, it was nice to see an organic example of someone being guided to use a new concept modelling method for the first time and have light guidance from someone who has spent decades in the PKM field. If anything, I feel more assurance that I'm on the right path and gave me some insights on new ways of thinking. Hearing their thought process was also helpful for me and I was able to get some additional nuggets that I can apply.
      I think the difficulty is that the term "concept" is so broad... is it really possible for a newbie in PKM to pick up any system and attain mastery and flow their first time? If anyone knows of one, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I was hoping for your criticism to be more constructive though so the community can more benefit from the conversation.
      **please excuse my lack of grammar skills**

      Thanks & spot on. This video was a single take crammed in between two session. Nick just finished his presentation we had 30 minutes before the closing session. Took 15 minutes to get set up and then launched into it. I only removed about 30 seconds of disruption to make the flow better.
      How would you change the title or the thumbnail?
      Driven by the comment I looked up this book that I am going to read through today to verify/expand my understanding: www.perlego.com/book/1521223/applied-concept-mapping-capturing-analyzing-and-organizing-knowledge-pdf

      @@threee1298 Well, I don't actually feel in any way a 'need to make-up for' my opinion - it's an opinion, not a statement of 'I can do or know of a web-page that can do, much better than this'...
      The disorganised graphics are I suspect a result of 'rushing in where angels fear to tread' without any preamble or even introductory video explaining what is meant by the term 'model' for starters. Definition of the model to be used will be a good starter also, but the method of representation of whatever model is to be considered, in this case it's the lines, arrows, boxes etc, must be clearly defined, demonstrated, explained and above-all implemented in such a way that it is useful - which I'm afraid cannot be said for an unfocused graphic technique such as this video appears to be promoting.
      Many models necessarily use hierarchy for example, which is difficult to represent on a 2D page of graphics - but not impossible. BUT the method must produce and enable the intended user/s to produce, understandable representations of the knowledge to be put into said model from the initial 'overview' of any as in this case diagram/graphic that we all need to start with, through in a logical-manner to the 'deeper details' being represented, which of course is where the entities, relationships, properties, attributes, applicable sub-models etc will show their strength - when constructed with a logical methodology - which this video is definitely NOT representing and this is what makes me think that more confusion than understanding may be the 'take-away' for most viewers hoping to learn from this.....
      As for "other sources" I haven't scanned the web for any, I simply have a working-lifetime of using modelling techniques and took an interest when I saw this video online.
      My remarks, although negative perhaps, may also help some people that are tempted to be impressed with the 'intellectuals in deep thought' image portrayed, and consequently to take as correct everything that's being presented.
      This I think is clearly the case if some other comments to this video are considered, admiration and praise, but have those viewers been able to go away and actually use the presented methodology in any productive or useful way, or have they as I suspect, gone away, thought about it and realised that they've actually learnt nothing useful and have then lost a measure of their own self-confidence after, as I mentioned in my first reply, they have been (absolutely unintentionally on the part of the presenters) swayed to "think they should have understood it" - maybe even had their enthusiasm damaged by this?
      Believe-me, I'm not trying to criticise for the sake of it, but to show an 'amber-flag' of caution for this video's contents - I absolutely hate to see people trying to learn something new or in more depth becoming discourage or confused by videos such as this one, with no aspersions whatsoever to be cast upon the two clearly committed and well-intentioned presenters.
      { note - I've altered the original "red flag" of my first-version posting of the above after discussion with the creator of this video as I think he's correct that 'red' is not quite right or fair, in essence too-harsh.. - end-note}
