Holy moly, this is a fantastic update! The front/back sharing was immediately useful to me. I don't know how to describe why this clicked so well, but it fits the way I think (I think). I like being in markdown when I'm writing a note and taking advantage of headings, links, outlines and such, but I often want to see relationships between notes, parts of notes, images, etc., all side by side where I can make and draw additional connections. That process is purely visual. How cool to be able to just hit a hotkey and bounce back and forth. Thanks so much, Zsolt, for your dedication and constant improvement to the Excalidraw/Obsidian experience.
For some reason, even though I'm really excited about this update, I haven't quite grasped the idea of having the image on one side of the "card" and the "text" on the other side of the card. For some reason, it doesn't feel natural that the text is as if hidden on the other side of the card. Until now, I have used the markdown view mainly for adding tags, I have not written anything else in the markdown document of the Excalidraw image. I prefer a linear approach for now, where markdown documents are separate and Excalidraw documents are separate. And then there are references between these.
We all think and work differently. It is great to have the option available, how much you make use of it will depend on your needs and personal preferences. My personal journey with the back side of the note started with adding frontmatter tags to control export and other behaviors of drawings. Then I started to add metadata, such as links with dataview fields as ontology and tags. Then I started to expand the back side when I realized that the vast majority of my ZK notes have an attached illustration... so I was thinking why have the illustration in a separate file? And now I am approaching the point that @nicolevdh mentioned... of making all my notes into Excalidraw (ready) files. This journey took me 3 years... I believe in moving one step at a time. The value of these cards (especially if you apply the card forcing function) comes alive when you navigate your Vault using Excalibrain with the embedded mode turned on. In that case, instead of the title of the central note, you will see your visual summary of the note, making navigation much more immersive.
@@joemoss5138 there is a command palette action for that "Toggle between Excalidraw and Markdown mode". You can assign a hotkey to that in Obsidian Settings. Else you can right click the tab and select "Open as Excalidraw Drawing"/"Open as Markdown". If you are on Obsidian 1.6.0 insider, then you might need to downgrade until 1.6.1 insider is released, as Obsidian stopped indexing files larger than 2MB in 1.6.0, causing those drawings to stop functioning. This was already discussed with Obsidian Devs.
Once notes become embeded and editable as it is in canvas' then a fully geometrically interfaceable information structure can be made to organize atomic information
Wow man that's genius! I love the way this is going. I wanna know is there any way to do Anki like stuff using both excalidraw and markdown visually all the while getting the benefits of FSRS algorithm of spaced repetition, because the problem im facing with doing anki practice alone is that it's boring and it just feels like I'm doing rote memorization without making new connections,i usually use excalidraw to create diagrams to brainstorm as I'm revising my cards but it's a bit scattered and i want to do better, would love to have a super awesome system where we can optimise memory with creativity with fun, also, liked ☺️
I've not yet explored Anki, but the idea of cards and the Visual Forcing Function (ruclips.net/video/VtMMH5VYTIo/видео.html) are indeed similar. Since I've not used Anki I might be completely off track here, but... I am thinking that markdown notes with a small card of an illustration on the front side, using the Forcing Function, could be used in conjunction with ExcaliBrain when embeds are turned on in ExcaliBrain. That way you can navigate your interconnected web of visual cards, and if you have a question you can always flip the card over to look at your notes on the back side.

No lie, this is freaking huge! It feels like a game changing QoL addition. Question regarding the versioning: why is this regarded as a minor release, since it changes quite a lot of stuff and it also doesn't support backwards compatibility?

There is a setting in the new version (2.1.0) that allows you to turn the crosshair back on. Check under Excalidraw Appearance and Behavior in plugin settings. It is right at the top of that section.

Can you please tell me if there is any way to reduce the amount of Excalidraw markup in a note? Even when I make a very simple scheme of a couple of arrows and other shapes, the note gets 20-30 thousand characters more. Yes, you can hide them with "%%", but still you can see by side scrolling how big the note has become. Because of this, even small notes, which should be literally 300-500 characters, grow up to several tens of thousands characters due to Excalidraw's schema markup.

Yes - that is a tricky one. At the moment I don't have a solution for you. I'll need to think about this one. As the front and back of the note becomes increasingly a key part of the solution, this will need an answer as well.
I was drawing on an XP PEN Deco 01 v2 graphics tablet. Everything was fine, but there was a bug in the latest version. When you turn on the pen in the Excalidraw program, the cross disappears.
Not a bug... a feature based on a request of another user. But under "appearance and behavior" in Excalidraw plugin settings you can turn the crosshair back on. It is all documented in the release notes. Based on the number of times this question has come up it is clear that I miscalculated how people want this feature... however, I encourage you to always read the release notes as you can avoid similar surprises in the future.
"Excalidraw: Convert markdown note to Excalidraw Drawing" Command seems that it does not use Templater Plugin. After converting it, my file content still contain something like that: "![[.svg]]"
When Templater runs depends on your Templater settings, not Excalidraw. When you convert an existing markdown note into an Excalidraw note, it will not automatically trigger Templater as you can only configure Templater to run on new file creation or execute Templater manually. Note also that you can only run Templater in Markdown view mode as Templater does not support the Excalidraw view. To automate your Excalidraw view you can use ExcalidrawAutomate. You might find this interesting. Sorry i have another question. After “unlocking” all the pages of a pdf file pasted on an excalidraw note how could i lock them again? I selected them all but nothing saying Lock All appears. Could you help me or eventually add this feature? Thank you very much Of curse i subscribed :)
Plus, sometimes when i write with the wacom, it stops and I can only move around the page and can only zoom in. This thing is really annoying, I’m using a MAC OS, please if you can remove this bug that actually has been going on for months. But when i close and restard the app it work well.
Sorry for the first blunt response... only this question has come up a number of times yet it was properly documented in the release notes. I disabled the crosshair by default based on a user request. Retrospective this was obviously a miscalculation on my behalf... as many have raised they're missing the crosshair. In plugin settings you can re-enable under "Excalidraw appearance and behavior"
You can. With the set stroke width script, or you can create your script to toggle stroke width based on your needs (e.g. to iterate a scale of different preset width), or for free draw you can define custom pens with custom worthless.... You can also save stroke width to your template so that the new drawings initializes with your preferred stroke width.

@@suryakant1112 I hear you loud and clear! There are many features that could be built. But the gap between "could" and "will be" is huge! The plugin is a hobby project that I made available to others to use as-is. My primary drive is to build a tool that supports my own use cases and workflow, something, I can use myself for my own purposes. The Excalidraw plugin in its current form achieves that beautifully. I think the current product is far better in many ways than any alternative on the market (especially when you calculate in the price :)). Yes, there are a few quirks you need to learn, but trust me, the effort of learning those is nothing compared to the effort of building the plugin. Frankly, I have extremely limited energy to improve on features that work well for me. I am sorry to be so blunt, but I also need to maintain boundaries, else I will end up spending my very limited time building features I don't myself need... Doing it for free - just out of love. That does not quite work on the long term.
Yes, the markdown text is not converted into a drawing. Think of it rather as a sheet of paper. When you convert it markdown to excalidraw you create the back side of the note, which is an empty side until you draw something on it. On one side you have the markdown text with metadata, background information, etc. on the other side of the sheet you have a summary illustration. When you reference this page in notes you display the image (unless you are referencing a specific section of the document), when you edit it, if you are adding detail, you add it to the markdown note, or maybe you add additional summary to the front. Think of for example your CRM system, or maybe family tree. For each person you have an image, when you reference the person, you reference the image, but on the backside you have details like date of birth, email address, etc. The front and back is really just a convenient way to package the visual and the textual in a single file.

How can I revert to an older version of Excalidraw? I find the AI notification extremely annoying and irritating. The AI notifications are orange-colored and catch my attention like a notification, completely disturbing my ability to work on something. Excalidraw is unusable like this. I need an older version. First, I am happy to help. Second, I understand that you are frustrated, but there is absolutely no need to shout and label solutions "stupid". Actually, I am helping not because, but inspite of you shouting. The good news is that the solution is 100% within your control. You just need to add a css snippet to hide the callout on the button. In Obsidian settings, under Appearance you need to scroll down to "CSS snippets". Click the icon to open the folder and add a text file with the extension ".css". In the text file add the following single line: .excalidraw .dropdown-menu-button div {display: none !important;} Save the css, in Appearance next to "CSS snippets" press the button to refresh the list, when you see your new css, turn it on and the callout should be hidden. For many-many reasons I do not recommend downgrading Excalidraw (partly, because 2.2.x files will not load with earlier versions, unless you manually tweak them, which is possible, but requires even more explanation.

How do you toggle between front and back though?! That's not clear to me.

Since I've not used Anki I might be completely off track here, but... Some philosophies increment the release integer with a breaking change (to signal no backward compatibility)

@@suryakant1112 how did you try to install it. I just opened the script library from the plugin and clicked to install "Set Stroke Width of Selected Elements" and it installed without any issues.

There are many features that could be built. But the gap between "could" and "will be" is huge! The plugin is a hobby project that I made available to others to use as-is. My primary drive is to build a tool that supports my own use cases and workflow, something, I can use myself for my own purposes. The Excalidraw plugin in its current form achieves that beautifully. I think the current product is far better in many ways than any alternative on the market (especially when you calculate in the price :)).
Yes, there are a few quirks you need to learn, but trust me, the effort of learning those is nothing compared to the effort of building the plugin. Frankly, I have extremely limited energy to improve on features that work well for me.
I am sorry to be so blunt, but I also need to maintain boundaries, else I will end up spending my very limited time building features I don't myself need... Doing it for free - just out of love. That does not quite work on the long term.

Yes, the markdown text is not converted into a drawing. Think of it rather as a sheet of paper. When you convert it markdown to excalidraw you create the back side of the note, which is an empty side until you draw something on it. On one side you have the markdown text with metadata, background information, etc. on the other side of the sheet you have a summary illustration. When you reference this page in notes you display the image (unless you are referencing a specific section of the document), when you edit it, if you are adding detail, you add it to the markdown note, or maybe you add additional summary to the front.
Think of for example your CRM system, or maybe family tree. For each person you have an image, when you reference the person, you reference the image, but on the backside you have details like date of birth, email address, etc. The front and back is really just a convenient way to package the visual and the textual in a single file.

How can I revert to an older version of Excalidraw? I find the AI notification extremely annoying and irritating. The AI notifications are orange-colored and catch my attention like a notification, completely disturbing my ability to work on something. Excalidraw is unusable like this. I need an older version.

First, I am happy to help. Second, I understand that you are frustrated, but there is absolutely no need to shout and label solutions "stupid". Actually, I am helping not because, but inspite of you shouting.
The good news is that the solution is 100% within your control. You just need to add a css snippet to hide the callout on the button.
In Obsidian settings, under Appearance you need to scroll down to "CSS snippets". Click the icon to open the folder and add a text file with the extension ".css". In the text file add the following single line:
.excalidraw .dropdown-menu-button div {display: none !important;}
Save the css, in Appearance next to "CSS snippets" press the button to refresh the list, when you see your new css, turn it on and the callout should be hidden.
For many-many reasons I do not recommend downgrading Excalidraw (partly, because 2.2.x files will not load with earlier versions, unless you manually tweak them, which is possible, but requires even more explanation.
@nicolevdh @VisualPKM is it possible to switch how the note behaves by default? I would like the markdown to be what is initially loaded and flip to the drawings

How do you change the font? I've seen the excalidraw-font property, but I don't know how to use it.
What do you mean by changing the font? Using a completely different font family instead of the ones provided, or changing the font face of the selected element?
