Everyone that has ever complained about turning off Lumenoks needs to watch this video. Once I learned this trimming trick a few years ago, I found the wires would crack black eagle shafts. I switched to SSCA weaved shafts this year and so far no cracking of the arrow shaft.
This is an amazing video. I learned a lot about luminous and how to really make them work properly for me. Congrats to you and your daughter. Keep up the great videos.
Two things I would like to mention. 1. You can put the nock, with the string end in a drill and use a small file to remove somewhat equal parts of the the ridges. 2. The on and off of the Lumenoks when shot may be caused by the arrow end not being square.
Hi Rich.. It’s been a long time… I’ve always appreciated your videos and your love of crossbow hunting.. It’s great to see that you have an abundance of knowledge in the sport that you love so much.. more importantly, you are willing to share it with all your friends.. say hi to Genevieve for me.. as a photographer and I’m not being picky.. that moment when you were referring to the light or the absence of it on your scale.. could’ve been rectified if JENNA had zoomed in just for that brief moment in time would’ve clarified your readings quite readily.. but I think seeing that the gauge was fluctuating is sufficient.. I hunt from a ground blind specifically at all hours of the day, and I have always limited my distance to 20 yards.. so I never had to concern myself with the position, location of the arrows spine in itself .. Being a naval sniper and shooting out to 1000 yards, I was very concerned with a grain weight per projectile whether it be 30 caliber or 50 caliber.. I always tried to keep it less than 10 grains with each projectile.. Taken into consideration the shaft.. the wraps.. the vanes..the inserts.. the luminocks.. and the broadheads ..I would attempt to keep the weight of each shaft within a parameter of 10 grains… amazing how if you’re a little more artistic .. and dip your arrow shafts how the mass weight would increase exponentially.. It’s all about hitting that quarter at 20 yards and I can do that.. Good luck in the upcoming season to you both …be safe.. I have taken up cooking as a hobby these past three years.. you might consider with Genevieve’s help in the kitchen to share one of your recipes with all of us that would be cool.. how about a stuffed venison backstrap with lobster 🦞 stuffing mix.. Take care… I was thinking you live close to the ocean.. another option you could have would be stuffed blue crab..🦀 get Cookin ‘
Good tips as always Rich! That said, I've always had issues with LUMENOKS, I think it's because I buy the universal models that come with three sets of plastic inserts. Also, they tend to go on while my bolt is loaded and I'm up in my tree stand. I've switched to the cheap AMAZON ones that worked great in my Barnnet Raptor. Sadly I'm now stuck with the ones that TENPOINT offers under the warning that if I use any other nocks I void the warranty!
I agree that you need lighted nocks and I usedd that brand when I was shooting my compound but that seems like a lot of fiddling when there are brands that don't have that issue. Could be the type of arrows that I shoot compared to yours. EIther way very good video to help people with the tightness issues of inserting the nocks.
Hey rich. You are so right about making sure the nock is turned correct or bad things happen. Left my blind on a really dark evening. Loaded up my decocker(yellow/white vanes) incorrectly
Blew up the string. Broke the decocker shaft after it hit one cam. Lucky I wasn’t injured. No more vanes that that are similar. Great video. I love crossbow appreciation month.
Another great video Rich! I like the orange nocks I had to trim down ridge on my trad arrows and they work great now. Before they were too tight and wouldn’t come on I’m going to do this trick on my executioners for my xbow also
I use Nocturnal crossbow nocks because I like how they turn off AND they don't accidentally get bumped on. They are aluminum with some plastic lips at the back end of the nock. I found they would not turn off the anti-dry fire in the crossbow latch so I had to put a small dab of JB Weld across the top edge of the back of the nock so it would turn it off when the arrow was seated into the latch. Lighted nocks have been a game changer on detecting arrow hits and in filming arrow flight, especially in low light or tracking an arrow flight thru forest shade. I also use large green or white fluorescent feather fletching for added visibility AND improved FOC and arrow flight.
@@Deathbybunjie Makes you wonder if the industry pays attention to all the buyer product tweaking that goes on to make their products function the best. (like your nock whittling!) I have also done the opposite on nocks that were too small. I wrapped a single layer of duct tape around the base and snugged them up perfectly. I have had them so loose, that they pulled off on target pass thru shots!
I wondered how you did that. I don't like to shake them in the hose extinguisher, like you said a year ago, that will damage the nock end of the shaft. Thanks for the tip. I will get to work on mine.
Burt coyote has a video on the nocks also they shouldn't turn on press in easy you should need the tool to turn off if you can take the nock and press it into your palm then it's turning on to easy, if you ever shave off to much and there to loose you can take a little piece of Walmart plastic bag a tightly wrap around it to fix the slack and put them in.
My lumenoks blow up in the shaft the battery came out…. Not sure if that’s normal for 400fps crossbows but I contacted them I believe the owner contacted me and two days later I got a package from them. At least for me that says a lot about the company and the guys running it.
My crossbow recommended using a alpha knocks is the lumaknock a half moon what are you thought on using one on my bowthe alpha is realy a deeper half moon,I have always been bad on instructions what are your thoughts
You can blow the screen up on your phone a little bit, but we got as close as we could with the camera to stay in focus. In order to keep your eye on a use a black marker to paint down that Ridge and then you can just cut toward that black marker line and keep marking it if you need to.
I hear you, maybe cheater glasses or what I did the first time was use a black marker to paint each one of the ridges and then I just kept cutting down the black marker line. Refresh as needed.
@@Deathbybunjie whatt i was meaninng its like when you scrape a ferro rod when making fire, or like scaping wood, it takes away less and will give better control of the fit
Why would they make these things where you have to shave them down? I've never had to shave any Nock down whether it's a regular Nock or a Lighted Nock. This should never be considering these are expensive and the fact that they're brand new.
Rich, You’re being lied to. You are not being recorded there is no post about the Luminock and you are only imagining that you are reading this comment! 😎🏹🦌🏹🦌🏹🦌

i have always used sandpaper to get a good fit, if you over do it you can smear a dab of superglue around the diameter of the nock.
I hold them up on end so the nock is on the table and carefully, without forcing, shaving downward. Works good. Did a dozen in a few minutes.

Yep gotta watch the nock end for sure, get it square. If anything, take more off that end.

Rich, I use sandpaper to sand down the shafts. I think that’s probably a little easier than with the box cutter

In honor of the olympics, he did win a gold medal after all with a broken freakin neck 🤣

Always used luminoks in all my crossbows. Never did anything to em but shove em in there. Now I have something else to do. lol.

Use the nock selector tool on lumenok.com or call them if need be. Depends on arrow and broadhead.
Can you show a close up of the ridge for us Rick.

What Lumenok do you use on Bunjie 3.0?
The ruby red Parker Style, but I am told the gtc's work well too, I'll probably switch to those.
I did a dozen and a half and maybe took 15 minutes. I only had to razor blade down one ridge.
What's the best way to line them up?
Depends on crossbow, but on capture style nocks gotta be perfect with string. I have a video or two on nock tuning etc coming soon
Wonder how a dremel would work?
Have you ever tried or has anyone ever tried Woody’s starburst crossbow nocks ?
Nope any good?

I have a dozen strobing ones ,,,,,
They seem good but time will tell
Always lubricate before you trim. It makes a world of difference. Candle wax!

I wish my eyesight was better so I could see that stuff

why not scrape away plastic intead of cutting, will take away less better adjustment of fit at 90 degrees angle

Not every shaft is the same either just keep that in mind
It's to fit a wider variety of arrow shafts. Not every shaft is exactly the same dimensions.

It's easier to shave one down than to add to increase diameter.

I use 120 grain sandpaper

Would probably work well if you can keep your fingers out of there
