I should have mentioned the Chair Suspension. It is a wonderful option; you can perform it anywhere, and it can be done with an audience volunteer. It is a wise investment for any performer. It is definitely a classic.
Another thumbs-up for the Zig Zag. I hope to have one built within a year. Unfortunately it's not always presented ideally or maybe even correctly. A lot of the Zags I've seen are rubbish they way they're constructed IMHO, it's as if nobody took the time to really understand the plans and/or didn't understand the illusion. This really does does a disservice, hopefully I can do better or not at all. Btw, how a bout some Sharpe commentary. I have several of this books and they are timeless.
This is true. My first Zig Zag was built incorrectly by a builder who needed help understanding the illusion. Harbin, of course, has proper plans, and I think Paul Osborne does, too, but buyer beware. If you can inspect before buying, all the better
I think Jim Steinmeyer is one of the great geniuses of our time. He started with Doug Henning but has since established a great career of his own. Device and Illusion is filled with practical, workable, real-world grand illusions. Modern Art is not in the book, but it is a logical extension of the Zig Zag. I think Modern Art is destined to be a classic if it is not already. Thanks for commenting.
Luckily there is a performance of Robert Harbin doing his Zig Zag ruclips.net/video/SMuNxCIbcE8/видео.htmlsi=qwgywbptjZKavPH9 Very nice! When it comes to stage effects wouldnt a "manipulation act" or "dove act" not also fit in this category or would you rather consider it parlor? How about the "dancing / appearing / vanishing cane" ?
A manipulation act could be performed on a full stage or in a parlor. The dancing can, and Fantasio products are wonderful tools and effects for magicians. I didn't cover them because I never intended these videos to be "comprehensive," covering every possible option. Instead, I selected only a sample to give people who view these videos something to think about. Thanks for commenting.
The Zig-zag illusion is brilliant - my favourite.
I am quite fond of it too
I also used Abbott's Chair Suspension for years. Loved it.😊
