THE MOST 80'S SOUND EVER!! 🎵 A-HA TAKE ON ME Reaction

- This is our first time hearing A-Ha. Take on me has to be the most 80s sounding song we've ever heard. If this doesn't epitomize the 80s, idk what does lol.

It's fun to see Brad trying to grow - putting himself out there. He's a private person - this must be hard for him. Lex is the bomb!
I agree. Some people are hard on Brad. I hate to see it. The more vidoes of theirs that I watch, the more he grows on me. I think it makes for an interesting combo.
He's putting up with a lot out of love for that woman. He's a trooper.
@Jay R I'm just curious. Are you rude and nasty in real life too? Or only on the internet?
@Jay R That still doesn't answer my question. I run into lots of clueless people, but I don't feel the need to be nasty. I have a feeling you're one of those who are "internet rude", because you can be anonymous. Or do you actually walk around the world being nasty?
@Jay R LOL... Yeah ok buddy. Try again. Get over your nasty self.
I like it when Brad has no idea what Lex is talking about.
that's 90% of the time
Lol....bigly
Almost everytime xD He's clueless.
He didn’t have lyrics to read so he’s lost...
@@CoboProdz at least ‼️
I love how Lex has such specific and vivid feelings and visions about songs. Your reactions are so much fun 💕
I feel like she was in the 80s with us that were. I'm telling you if she came back in a time machine she would fit in perfectly. The vibe was how she describes it. I feel like a lot of the 80s songs captured that 80s era perfectly. It was a party, feel good decade for sure.
@@yeahboiii6640 I think Lex is a true time traveler, I grew up in the 70's and I think she could fit right into that decade as well!!
@@yeahboiii6640 AGREE!! 😁💜
Agreed!! I've been listening to this stuff all my life (since my early teens / early 80s), and I thought I picked up all the nuances, but Lex manages to provide fresh and interesting perspectives!
It doesn't even matter what era...Lex is just vibe and into it. She's so hype about everything.
This is, indeed, THE iconic 80s song; can't possibly get more 80s than Take on Me. The video, too, is iconic - glad you got to see it.
Final countdown possibly?
Except maybe flock of seagulls "I Ran."
@@matsv201 Maybe if you are British/Commonwealth/European? I mean, I know A-ha is Scandanvian, but that song was everywhere here in the 80s. I don't think I even heard Final Countdown until I became an ex-pat and lived with Brits. That could just be me, though; it's definitely very, very 80s.
@@neillenet291 I respect this opinion.
@@BalbazaktheGreat you proboly confused it with some other song
Morten Harket's voice range is out of this world.
Yeah one of the best vocalists I’ve ever heard I agree
Lex always has such an intuitive understanding of the music. She truly feels the sounds as they’re meant to be heard!
Interesting you say the 80s was not the technology age. 80s was THE technology age! Home videos, home computers, early mobile phones, digital music (on CD), portable music on the go, microwave ovens, synth music (like this!). I cannot begin to describe the emotion of being a kid in the 80s. Nobody older than you understood how this stuff worked (and often required you to set up the VCR to record a programme), and yet you were going to get a career in this stuff and not do the job your parents did. So liberating!
Yeah, the 80s is when technology was really changing. You saw the bigger advances manifested in consumer products in later years, but the 80s is when they had several breakthroughs in technology and it had just started showing up in consumer electronics like PCs and CD players and VCRs.
and squirrell driven cars
Spot on. I remember joining a small accountancy firm from college in 1986 and they'd just had a state of the art computer, and little old me, at the age of 18, had to show the partners how to use it and how the word processor worked (they'd been using a typewriter up to then!). Good times.
Before the 80's everything was just mechanical or analog.
Electronics and plastic was booming in the 80's.
@@muleb384 Yes, and the 80s finished off with the Gameboy. I forgot about that!
I was in the US Navy , we went to Norway(thats where they're from) saw them in a club. . when we got back to the states 6 months later they were huge
The song is about taking a chance on love, accepting and embracing the risk of putting yourself out there. They kind of say it all with the line "It's no better to be safe than sorry"
'I'll be gone in a day or two' suggests little risk. It's is about being free to enjoy relationships for the time they have.
@@tristramcoffin926 the risk is not engaging, not taking the opportunity while you have it
EXACTLY!!!
brad the fact you caught that beat change on your first time is impressive... it makes the whole song for me
Absolute banger of a song, as a 16 y/o myself I love this song, can't go wrong with it
U funny I'm 72 not quite sure what a banger is. Please enlighten me..............
@@jimmiekendall5529 banger = awesome, good song
As a child of the '80s, this song WAS the '80s to me. It also defined my idea of what love was at a very young age
This is such a fun 80s song. Always makes me happy and in a good mood. I feel like Lex when I hear it 💪. Glad you watched the video too. It’s iconic.
This was the second music video from the ‘80s to reach a billion views on RUclips (first was Sweet Child O’ Mine).
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up (the rickroll song) probably hit a billion first, but the video kept getting taken down and reposted.
Its hilarious watching you two. Brad is like me. If I'm bobbing my head I'm really getting it. Then there's lex who just lets the music take her. It's great
haha you're either a Brad or a Lex, maybe even both. I'm definitely a Lex. Music is a journey when i'm really feeling it
Yep I’m a bit of both, need time to hear the music but down to vibe as well
Im a lex person just letting the music take me anywhere
So many of us have heard & listened to this song a billion times. Would love to experience hearing this music for the first time again!!!
A-Ha was the first musical act from Norway to have a Top 40 song in America. This song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the early fall of 1985. The video to this song was groundbreaking indeed!!!
I really respect Ah-Ha cause they still do their live songs ALMOST perfectly matching the album style. The lead singer, sometimes, has to strain to reach the highest notes, but the fact that he does so, deserves admiration & respect. :-)
Love how Lex is just vibing as always
I kinda enjoyed your reaction but as this is the 37th different reaction to this I was fascinated to hear your views on seeing the most-watched Video in MTV HISTORY and this song which is over 35 years old has well over a BILLION VIEWS as it was totally groundbreaking.
It took 2 Artists FOUR MONTHS with 3,000 HAND DRAWINGS to achieve that effect which was unheard of in those times and yet not a mention during the video.
Maybe it is 2021 Seen It All Done It All.....lol
Not one hit wonders - I love "Stay On These Roads" and "The Sun Alway Shines On TV". But my real favourite is "Hunting High & Low". It is a beautiful haunting song with another amazing video telling the story. Very talented band!
Oh my...Hunting High and Low is my favourite too... A-ha is the soundtrack of my youth...my adolescent / teenage years .....
I'm always torn between "Stay On These Roads" and "Hunting High And Low"
Nice choices. Summer Moved On and Lifelines later on too.
I’m gonna throw in ‘I’ve been losing you’ that’s my fave by them
Music videos were art in the 80's and 90's. People that didn't grow up with the real MTV have no clue how big videos were. This is one of the most original and amazing music videos I can remember. I don't even particularly care for this genre of music but the video is incredible. For the time, it took a lot to produce something like this.
Pretty much the epitome of the 80s. I think Duran Duran does too. A lot of 80's synth does not hold up well, but this does (and some of Duran Duran too - Planet Earth for ex. ) P.S. That singer is still really good looking!!.
yup! and Modern Talking, The Fixx, Daryl Hall and John Oates and many others!
I really like hungry like the wolf by Duran Duran
Their MTV unplugged version will bring you to tears. It’s absolutely beautiful.
You get it Lex! This song was on in the dance clubs forever. The band got together recently and did a terrific live version. This song never gets old! 💜
Such iconic song, hope this means they are heading towards more 80s music
I'm an 80s kid and a 90s teen this song right here, is not only a one hit wonder it's probably "The" Ultimate one hit wonder. A song that still holds to this day, a karaoke favorite, the video is before it's time... And yes guys it's very 80s pop in everyway... Lex your reactions are so cool because it's the same feels when I first heard a lot of the songs you and Brad have reacted too when I was a kid... Big fan from New Zealand...
Nailed it Lexi, I'm glad that Rock music was siphoned through the 80's, such an important time in music evolution!!!✌️
"The sun always shines on TV" Another great song from that album.
First off, Lex that Dortmund top is fire, second off, this video is genius and the song is catchy as all hell, lol. Deffo a karaoke go to for me
A-ha is NOT a one hit wonder...they still sell out big venues all over the world EXCEPT in the USA...this is not even their best song.... they have 10 albums that are all very very very good.
Yeah.... it always pisses me off when Americans classify A-Ha as a "one hit wonder" when it couldn't be less true. They do that because all they know is this song. A-he where huge in Europe in the 80's from 85 to 88 they had something like 10 hits on high places on the charts over the course of the 3 first albums, as well as on the album charts. I love this song but it's not even my favorite. I'm always torn between "Stay On These Roads" and "Hunting High And Low"
I think Scoundrel Days is a phenomenal album
@@conan5885 Even in North America, they weren’t a one hit wonder. "The Sun Always Shines on TV" was also a very successful song over here.
@@eaglebauersrecordcollection My favorite.
My favorites are this one, velvet, the living daylights, living a boys adventure tale, hell... everything a-ha has put out. The collaboration of a-ha and kygo on this song is tops too
I love your joyful reaction to music, Lex. Makes me feel so happy.
Having lived through the 70’s and 80’s, I would say as a whole the 70’s had the highest quality music and artists but the 80’s had the most fun and danceable music.
I must agree.👍having lived through the 70's & 80's+ I think the musicianship was of a higher quality in the 70's,but when it comes to dancing & just partying, the 80's had that in spades when it comes to music.both produced great music, but each had their own vibe.🙂
Yes, I grew up then too, and I think your description is good. The 80s were very fun, creative and carefree
Of course people from the 70s think the 70s was the best. It was their own decade. That is what everyone thinks. A lot of it was seriously overrated. Nostalgia glasses.
@@adgato75 wrong. Some of us can be objective. I really do love the 80’s stuff but going back and really listening to bands like Genesis and hearing the progressive and sophisticated stuff of the 70’s and then the pop stuff of the 80’s, you can truly hear the thinness in the music. Fun and catchy - yes but nowhere near the quality of the Peter Gabriel area. Rush’s worst period is the mid 80’s. The Who is the same. The 80’s sound is considered a bit cheesy now. I personally still love it for nostalgia reasons but it does lack depth a lot of the time. Pink Floyd has actively de-eighties their 1987 album because of the dated sound.
@@Esl1999 I was more referring to the crusty boomer idea that nothing after the 80s is any good. Or "Oh , it was fine , just not AS good".
Yes , it IS as good. Every decade is the same. Some good stuff , a little great stuff , a lot of garbage. The 70s was no different.
A few years ago Ah Ha did a live version that was a more striped down version and very beautiful. Norway's best pop band commercially speaking
This was huge in the 80's. Not too long ago, the lead singer did an acoustic slowed down version that was actually pretty amazing
This totally captures 80's New Wave
Duran Duran is another huge 80's vibe band. "Hungry Like the Wolf" is a good one. "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls is probably one of the most recognizable new wave songs too.
As a person from the 60's and 70's rock era, I didn't like the 80's music much when it came out. Now I have to admit that some of it is absolutely great. This song being one of the great ones. The video with this song is also fantastic. You should re-watch, paying attention to the video.
Brad always got this look like something smells bad. 😂😂😂
That half time beat or whatever it is is SO HOOKY. That's my favorite part too, Brad.
This music video was very ahead of it’s time with all the special effects and the drawing coming to life ect. One of my fav vids to watch and his voice is like no other.
A lot of songs watching the video takes away from reacting to the music, but this is one where you have to watch the video because it was so iconic and a huge part of the phenomenon of this song in the early days of MTV in the 80's.
Iconic song for sure! When I was a teeanger I had a crush on the singer, LOL. Lex you are always so spot on with your comments and love watching you have fun with all the songs you guys listen to! Brad is cool too!
I would have a crush on him too if I were a teen then. 😅
Got married to this song in Lake Tahoe, CA in 1985. They had roadside wedding chapels that would marry you for $100 and instead of the traditional, "Here comes the bride", we chose "Take on me". Seemed more appropriate to our lifestyle.
Lex...ive been watching your videos, let me tell you. You ARE SPOT ON with your 70's and 80's vibe and comments. You have an 80' s soul. I grew up in the 80's. You go girl!
Lex's dancing and groove makes this reaction fully worthwhile! :P
Such a iconic video of the start of the MTV generation. There was nothing else like it during this time. I believe it was groundbreaking at the time.
The main melody was used/sampled in one of pitbull's songs (feel this moment) featuring christina aguileran, pitbull uses iconic melodies from old hits in his songs, he also used the melody from llorando se fue by kjarkas in his song (on the floor) with jennifer lopez.
This is one of the most popular videos of its day and one of the most memorable too.. very catchy song..
ICONIC 80’s right here! Song and video- the video was really a FAVORITE back then- the technology for that time- - we looked forward to this video! He’s obviously trapped in a comic book- “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel next! Also DEFINITELY iconic and such a groove! 🤍🧡🤎👍
You must hear the best 80’s rock! Europe ”the final countdown”
👍 Think that song is most played all around. Sports events, New Year's nights, Radio etc
Ugh, I absolutely detest that song. (I realize I am probably in the minority with this opinion.)
One of the most Iconic 80's songs and music videos in the entire decade. A true classic.
This song is in Deadpool 2, you may have heard it from there. It's also in an episode of Family Guy.
If there was an song and video that represented the 80s this would be the one!
Not just a one-hit wonder band. They also had the James Bond-song, "Living daylight". Great song/video.
Manhattan Skyline is my favorite of their song!
This song was huge my senior year of high school. Great memories.
I'm 43 and Love the 80's. Best music out there. ❤
You guys should react to "Enjoy The Silence" by Depeche Mode. They are hands down the ultimate 80's electronic group! They're music catalog is amazing and they still release amazing albums.
Then OMD
The specials - much to young or ghost town 🔥🔥🔥🔥
So many pre teens fell in love with singer. He was gorgeous.
The top floor of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame is dedicated to this video, where they say it is " The Best Music Video Ever Made. "
I really miss the 80s. I'd go back there if I could
Yes same here, I really believe that we were blessed to have experienced those days I miss them so much now🤔
Did Brad just say he doesn’t know what The Shining is?!? Dude, that’s a must watch for you with Halloween coming up!
If he wants to 💩 his paints 😉👍
That and one flew over the cukoo's nest are Jack Nicholsons best films.
Make sure it’s one of the digitally remastered versions. It looks fantastic compared to older releases because some of the original prints that are available were degraded before being transferred.
Also, how does someone no know “the Shining”? Even if they haven’t seen it?
another beautiful example of 80's visual effects experimentation and innovation with pencil sketches. Keep in mind, this is all before CGI was a thing. The producers did a nice job of bringing the pages to life using the effects technology available at the time. The band was from Norway, I think and didn't speak english. So the lead singer learned just enough to sing the song in english. Amazing tenor falsetto voice before the advent of Auto-tune tech.
The song has been in many movies & commercials, most recently in Ready Player One. And yeah, Vice City is 80's
The song is about trying to get with a girl while on tour by basically saying "let's do it, I have to leave Town tomorrow "
Highly recommend Toto - Hold the Line, Rosanna and Africa.
99 is a good song that doesn't get any love from Hydra
Another song that instantly takes you back to the 80s is "Melt with You" by Modern English. It was featured in the movie, "Valley Girl", which was Nicolas Cage's debut film. It's a very feel-good song.
His part in it was very small but Cage was in Fast Times at Ridgemont High the year before Valley Girl came out
@@brettkenschaft4239 Oh yeah, I think I remember seeing him in that? I've seen the movie, but it's been a few years.
@@midnightumbreon Hope I didn't come across as a jerk know-it-all, just spreading some knowledge. He didn't even have a speaking line. In the credits he was just "Brad's bud" (Judge Reinhold's character) and still going by Nicolas Coppola.
@@brettkenschaft4239 No, I appreciate you clearing up the information. I'll have to re-watch Fast Times again so I can keep an eye out for him. If I thought you came across bad, I'd let you know haha
@@midnightumbreon The scene where he's most prominently shown is when Brad is getting fired from All American Burger for threatening that customer. It's only for a second or two though. He's in the kitchen behind Brad. The best scene is still the one with Phoebe Cates getting out of the pool though 😍
That little "ooh" by Lex when the beat drops... 👌💯
The stripped down acoustic version is beautiful. Was featured in Deadpool 2.
This is the song my ex-husband used as a way to tell me how he felt about me a couple of months after we met. Unfortunately it didn't have the wished for effect because my English at the time, although pretty decent, wasn't apparently good enough to be familiar with the expressions "take on me" or "take me on", so he ended up having to explain, and his love declaration ended up being more comedy than romance. 😆
Still, it became "our song" after that.
Ha! Thanks, Antarehs... sorry to hear he's your "ex" - but maybe the lack of communication contributed to that -- wishing you all the best! :)
@@GinMae Nah, we were married 23 years and as you can tell my English isn't a barrier to communication. I ended up getting a degree in it. ;)
@@UnexpectedTurnOfEvents Well, your English is clearly more than adequate now! lol
Can you guys please review "The sun always shines on TV" from A-HA
AHA!!!!!!...fondest of fond memories!!!
That Borussia Dortmund shirt that Lex is wearing is so damn stylish!
They actually did a theme song for James bond called Living Daylights, you should check out that song, cool song.😎👌🎸
The Shinning? Time to start reading. lol I know most will say watch the movie, it is great too, but the book by Stephen King will make you a reader. That's what hooked me long ago and got me into books. He literally has an entire library of scary books, many of which have been made into movies. Great reaction, as always!
The animation in this video was the 1st of its kind in the 80's, it was so unique and amazingly done!!
This is one of the top 10 videos of the 80s, and probably one of the top 10 videos of all time. Awesome and iconic!
There's an acoustic version of this recorded a couple years ago and it's equally as great.
Oh my god, yes! That acoustic version is BEAUTIFUL
Please do the Acoustic MTV live version of this. The vibe on that performance is unreal. And amazing. This song is a definite bop. But the music video is probably one of the greatest music videos ever made. It's Iconic!
The Outfield do a wicked acoustic version of Your Love and Naked Eyes do a haunting acoustic version of Promises Promises. Great White did a great acoustic version of Zeppelin's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" on MTV Unplugged

I like how he watches intently to make sure he takes everything in almost like trying to understand it. And how she just feels the music. Lol
Late 70s and early 80s was the best era for modern music, So many different styles. Rock, new wave, hip-hop. metal, were all on the radio, sometimes on the same station. Loved those days. Going to a house party and listening to all these genres was amazing. I'm afraid we will never see that again. Btw, Lex is fantastic rocking the Borussia Dortmund kit.
Sorry, the 80's are THE technology age. It all looks extremely antiquated now, but it wasn't at the time, it was the first true digital decade, I think. Really the entire 20th century was the age of technology, with each decade advancing prolifically, but the 80's were huge, and felt huge, as far as technology was concerned
Agreed.
Lex is such an 80’s child🤙
Mad respect for Dortmund jersey
Joint Second Best YNWA with Liverpool behind Celtic as can be seen by Celtic v Barcelona when the P A gets turned off midsong and it is just the crowd in the 3 minute video..

Can't talk about the 80's without A-ha Take-on Me. Sooooo iconic
Wow, I actually feel so sorry for Brad. His life seems stuck in video games. Doesn't know about the Shining, can't understand the message in Take On Me of love will over come a lot of issues and problems in your life. You're a smart guy Brad so don't let life cheat you.
And to think that Morten Harket did this tone scale in the live chorus without an auto tune! Humiliating for many "singers" these days.
"Turn on the morning of your 16th birthday" Haaaa I love how your mind works!
I was at the perfect age in the 80's to truly KNOW the 80's. Was born in 72. My home was all music since a baby. Know 60's 70's 80's & 90's so well & of course all til now/today..
Let me guess, Brad won't understand him singing.
1st video I watch on MTV when cable finally got to where I lived. 80s music was simply awesome. Great party song and one of my favorite music videos of the 80s. That cartoon concept was great.
this video was so iconic back in the 80s it was porbably the biggest pop cultural phenomenom for 1985 you see the video you hum the tune, you hum the tune you envisage the video in your head.
Does anyone else picture Lex in the 80’s at the roller rink in the vibe and never leaving? Might just be me.
I am very grateful to have found your channel. Beautiful reflections on this song. It’s a mesmerizing jewel. To me, one of the greatest of my lifetime.

I don’t know if I’ve said this before but one of the reasons you guys are my absolute favorite is because you get right into your reaction. Other reactors I can fast forward 2 1/2 minutes, and believe me I do, and they still aren’t reacting yet they’re still talking about whatever.
