    Finally!!! A 5 string reviewer that plays the B! I've seen 5'er reviews that never, EVER touch the B.
    I can get pretty much my desired sounds out of the upper 4 strings. Let's face it...on a 5, it;s all about the B!
    Well done. Plus, "Just The Two Of Us"...perfect song to display the tone.

    What stands out to me is the great feel of the bass. Neck width and string height make it fast and easy. Thanks for posting the review.

    Just bought a Sire V7 Vintage yesterday. I play mostly punk but learned jazz bass coming up. Got this for the great value, and for the look. As for tone, I feel that pedals have come such a long way that you can get any tone you're looking for with the right gear.

    Now I really want to play some metal and noise rock with this thing. The aesthetic mismatch would be glorious.

    That burgundy colorway is phenomenal! I almost got one in that color, but found a significantly less expensive one in red.

    Grest review Ben mate! Covered all the bases with tones with slap and pick work too - just what working bassists want to hear. Sound quality is great too - these seem like cracking basses for the price range, they retail at £450 in the UK, but sound like a bass costing 4x as much!

    I like this good review ,I've seen one advertised (used BUT LIKE NEW) and It's not far away, and this review is TALKING ME INTO BUYING IT.
    Why Can't more active Basses have the switch to passive, and do we know the string spacing at the bridge ? ( I believe it to be 18mm) , Talking to bass players on forums It's like dealers and some manufacturers specs miss this out and or get it wrong, what ever your preferences are for a wider or narrower sting spacing when your moving on to a Five or six string 1mm between strings gets multiplied and thus determines the width of the neck and could make all the difference to the player so it would be nice to see this at a glance,

    • @soundslikeben
      @soundslikeben  2 года назад

      I wish there was a more uniform listing of specs across manufacturer websites. My personal preference is for narrower spacing, but I know people who like 19mm on a six string. To each their own.

      it can be solved by changing the tuners to lighter ones. For example Hipshot ultra lite.

  • @ecedorsay

    is it lighter than the first generation 5 string?

    • @soundslikeben
      @soundslikeben  5 лет назад +2

      I’m not sure, as I don’t have one for comparison, but Sire has just announced a new addition to the lineup, the V5 series coming in April, which will have roasted necks and lighter weight woods. They will be passive.

    should i sell my schecter j plus 5 bass to get this?

    • @soundslikeben
      @soundslikeben  5 лет назад

      I have not played the Schecter J Plus, but I am generally fond of Schecters. Moving to this bass from the J Plus would be a fairly lateral move unless you are specifically trying to add a low B, and your money may be better spent on saving up for a different style of bass (like a P), other gear, or of course lessons. :)

    • @gsharpslayer3287
      @gsharpslayer3287 4 года назад +1

      Schecters usually have 24 frets which is awesome not sure if yours does. I feel schecter and sire are the underdog bass companies that make the best Basses at the best prices. I have a schecter omen extreme and while I don’t like the look very much, the sound is purely excellent.

    Nice bass, with a lovely finish. What's your opinion about the low b ?

    • @soundslikeben
      @soundslikeben  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks for watching. The low b is solid and well balanced with the rest of the bass. It doesn’t strike me as, “OMG, you have to hear the low b on this bass,” but at the same time, there is nothing about it that is deficient. It just feels and sounds like the rest of the bass, which is a good thing.

    How well would this compare to the Yamaha BB 434? Purely in terms of quality, not sonally

    • @soundslikeben
      @soundslikeben  5 лет назад +1

      Good question, Hetal. My sense is that the fit and finish on the Sire is better, but I prefer the wood selection on the Yamaha. I also really like the Yamaha neck joint. This is really a scenario where I recommend you check out both instruments and see what speaks to you.
