I remeber when I first saw this in primary school. I was about 6 years old. I actually thought Dorris died. Congradulations teachers, you scared a bunch of 6 year olds for life.
I like the bit where there's an elaborate musical number, and immediately afterwards Gorwen just calmly says "hmm...thanks for the warning." Something just makes me happy about that.
I used to draw the explosion of the Veetacore and the puddle of Dorris with her glasses as a kid. People saying this scarred them when they were young, this was like an action movie that taught me to read and draw
It must have been 20 years ago when I saw this and the scene with Doris getting killed has been inscribed on my brain since then. Primarily because neither she nor us kids watching has the slightest idea she's in danger until... her face melts in close-up. Amazingly strong stuff for kids' TV.
Episode 5 his first appearance. Just straight up melts a caterpillar, eh not too bad, then fucking Doris turns into a puddle too. Damn he means business.
Out of all the Look And Reads, this was the one that stuck in my head the most. Great characters and story. Charn was really scary. Some of his dialogue was brilliant though.
how did not get traumatised by this but bear behaving badly was one of the worst things i’d seen. honestly though, it was terrifying how he couldn’t ever get away from danger for me
I'm over 18, why the bloody hell am I watching something like this?! I should be doing something more important, like building a time machine and watching it at 7 years old again.
If this was done by Steven Moffat, half the budget would have gone on CGI FX, the children would be in short skirts & high heels, Boris would be gay, the black kid would be the one always getting screwed over, Doris & Charn would have got off with each other right before she dies, everyone would be crying by the end of each episode & he'd let Murray Gold hire out an entire orchestra just for a kids program. It would have no charm, or creativity, & look like every other program!
JannaGalaxy same here I had a flashback the last few days of charn and finally figured out where it was from today. He scared the hell out of me back then! 😱
You wasn’t the only 1 😂 I watched this episode then was off sick for a week and always remember missing the rest of the episodes and i always wondered what happened. I have forever had Charn and that scene of him melting that woman to nothing but slime and a pair of glasses engraved into my head 😂
+Sergio Reyes The widgets were better in all respects - the ewoks were so ridiculous and out of place with their bronze age guerilla tactics fighting and humiliating a galactic empire with technology thousands of years in advance of our own... yeah right. The widgets fit the world of Pelamar and Widge. It's sort of like a secular Narnia in fuzzy felts.
This WAS scary, but it's right that it should be scary. There's nothing terribly wrong with scaring people in the name of entertainment, and many people enjoy it - even children. Kids' TV now is too... sterile.
Charn: "It's a pity about Doris; I always rather liked her, you know!" Why? Was she an old flame or something? Thank god that didn't work out - imagine how the kids would have turned out! eeeshk.
I wanted the footprints to lead behind a snowdrift somewhere where Gorwin would find the Widget buried up to his nuts in Amanda...thats the difference between me now, and in 1989...

doris melting actually creeped the hell out of me when i first saw when i was about 6 or 7. This was when kids shows had some balls.
oh god that Doris thing was haunting, still haunts me to this day!!!
For some reason I was the only one in my class who was traumatised by this story. Everyone else loved it.

Something just makes me happy about that.
Ah, the snowball fight just makes me chuckle!

"Thank you for the warning. I like 'Thin Ice' better than 'Gorwen's Grave' *laugh* *cough*" - Hahaha CLASSIC! :)

Oh no he didn't! I have believe Charn.
I'm surprised I had forgotten this. It completely scared the sh*t out of me when I was in primary school.
Holy ****!?!
He MELTED Doris!
0:58 Boris completely blanks him, probably too pissed about his jumper 😂😂
this was the episode that scared me so much. I am always amazed that they showed this to kids.
Gorwen begun the happy dance, what a legend!

Did that Widget give her the Finger at the End? LOL!
This show had some brill cliffhangers
"Oh dear, words again. I wonder if I can solve this with grumbling."
Doris is even prettier than I remember. She was one of my first 'girl crushes'
I've never seen a villain with Melt-o-vision before. Charn is just that awesome.
Gorwin: "eeeeexalent!" lol

I had picture of this show in my head but could not remember the name or what it was about! drove me nuts.

does anyone else remember drawing the map?!?!
MElting of crayola people by bone man = childhood traumas.
God, BBC had quality nuttiness
Gorwen seems to be getting far too excited from the snowball fight
im watching this whilst smocking a joint. wow tripy shit dude...
Why did the Veetarod lead them north? Surely it would have pointed them to the closest Veeton, the one the Ewok, I mean Widget, had taken?
My first thought was ewoks too 🙊

How often do you see a dragon having a snowfight with a bunch of ewoks? Only in Through the Dragon's Eye!
u know non of us sad bastards would have ever heard of this if we hadnt watched it when we were young.
Charn has got one koala looking foot! - 2:14 and a big old fuzzy beard! - 2:21
Charn reminds me of Dani Filth
nah man, as kids we think a lot of things are real, and the thought of charn beaing real and melting people/things would scare most kids!
I'm convinced Doris and Charn have a history together. He "always liked her"? You always hurt - or melt - the one you love...
The sexual tension between Charn and Doris
Gorwen can't throw for toffee.
Go Back, the crack
of doom
will tip you into the icy gloom
Quagmire
Gorwen says excellent I say eggcelent
Doris read the book
OMG what are ewoks doing on hoth
What are Ewoks doing in Narnia?
sad all of it
Charn: "It's a pity about Doris; I always rather liked her, you know!"
Why? Was she an old flame or something?
Thank god that didn't work out - imagine how the kids would have turned out! eeeshk.
Hellloooo
2:15 - It's Lordi!!! XD
What is it with British shows trying to be tramatising for kids: this, numberjacks and so many more.
A C K
smack would be the best cure for this
you always were hot headed doris - does he mean that he found her ugly purple head secretly attractive?
@Knappa22
Imagine being fingered by Charn?
"Death to Pelamar", "Gorwen's Grave".... this is pretty bleak stuff for kids!!!!
No wonder we're a generation of fuck-ups, eh!!! Psychological scars.
I wanted the footprints to lead behind a snowdrift somewhere where Gorwin would find the Widget buried up to his nuts in Amanda...thats the difference between me now, and in 1989...
Thin ice effect is sh!t
